“The hell?!” Anna stood up completely shocked by my words. “I get that you’re selfish but this is another level. Destroying the world so you can get a chance to rule-”
“Sit down! I’m not finished.”
Anger coursed through my veins at the words. I was selfish, I wasn’t going to deny it, but I’d be damned before I let anyone compare me to those power hunger scumbags of the Underworld. My reasons weren’t completely righteous or good, but they were a little better than a few I knew.
Anna sat back down, but she was clearly upset. “You better have a good reason…”
“Don’t act like you’re any better. I bet you want to destroy the Underworld just the same as me.”
“Yeah, but not for power.” Anna mumbled. “It’s for another reason…”
“My reason is also not for power. It never was.” Memories flooded my mind, but I ignored them. Some were a little too painful to even think about. “I just don’t want the Underworld ruling. Anyone else is better than them”
“...” Anna calmed down a little at the words. “So, what’s your reason?”
“Revenge. Simple as that. Now we need to talk about your contract. There will be limit-”
“Runa!”
The door slammed open and Kan marched inside, the embodiment of pure anger. Behind him, Janeth walked in, carrying some type of cloth. No, it was clothing. The Ceremony was going to start soon but before that…
I needed to deal with Kan. “Look-”
Kan ignored me and walked straight up to Anna. Staring down at her, he asked, “Is it true?”
“Yes.”
“And we will have your undying loyalty now that you are under the servant rule?”
“Kan…”
“No Runa. The girl needs to understand what exactly you did. Because I bet she hasn’t told you anything.” Kan didn’t look at me but rather continued to stare at Anna, wanting his words to sink in.
If Kan was ranting like this it meant only one thing. Lord Malum had gone on a rampage after hearing the news from Samia. We still had the crowd to keep us safe, but I needed to make myself scarce during the banquet later tonight.
If he caught me, who knows what would happen. Well, it would be something bad, something very bad.
“What happened?” I asked.
“Other than Samia getting beaten to near death for his message, two columns in the King’s Box were completely destroyed so all the families will be on the arena floor.”
“You know that’s not what I’m asking.”
“Huh…” Kan looked at me before taking a seat next to me. “I want the girl’s response first. Then I’ll talk in her presence.”
Whatever Kan had to tell me was not good. Especially if he had to make sure everyone in the room was on our side. Whatever this girl was hiding, was something definitely bigger than I had originally thought.
Anna looked at the two of us and sighed. “You promise you’ll protect no matter what and never take advantage of me..”
“As long as you stay loyal, I’ll promise to protect you with my power. But betrayal…”
It was the ultimate sin for me. It had happened to me too many times and partially was the reason for me becoming what I am today. Thus, I always questioned a person’s loyalty before recruiting them. Today was an extreme case.
“However you’ll have to swear the Core Oath, for you to get my full protection. As for the last thing, I’ll try not to but no promises. If you are the way for me to reach my goal, then I’ll use you. Other than that you’ll be one of mine and I always protect those that swear themselves to me.”
A Core Oath was the most powerful oath in our superhuman society. It was a chain that bound our word to our core. Break it and your core would be crushed, instantly killing you. Swearing one was a serious thing and something that you couldn’t easily break.
Most people would go to the Ministry of Justice to get the oath done by an Oath Chainer. Luckily for us, I could copy the ability Oath Chainers had so it wasn’t necessary for us. We’d just need to sort out the details.
Anna nodded her head. “Ï understand the last part and will swear the Oath. but I want your protection to extend to the others.”
I looked at Kan and he nodded his head in agreement. We could get those kids out of that slum and into proper housing. And I knew just where they could stay.
“Alright, I agree.”
