I would have never thought that I would be able to finally experience a ‘Normal Life’. After the ‘War’, normally no one would have ever imagined people going back to their lives, or even being able to act like nothing ever happened.
But here I was, entering the first school I have even been to. I started to remember when I got the news that I had gotten accepted into the most prestigious school there is for people with mana, more like people who have a talent for controlling mana.
Anyway…
From the looks of it I was spaced out when a staff member at the front counter was asking for my name.
“Your Name Sir. Sir!” Said the woman with long brown hair that was past her shoulders and from the looks of it she had contacts on her black eyes. But that is not what shocked me, what shocked me was her appearance. She looked young, like in her early 20s, but with a closer inspection she had long ears which meant she was an elf. The question here is why is there an elf here if they are aggressive with every race.
After getting my composure back I responded, “Ah…My bad, can you repeat what you said?” I said while realizing that I have been spaced out.
“Your name Sir. You are a student here right?” Said the Elf staff.
“It's Alter, Alter Violet and I'm a first year here.”
“Alter Violet, first year huh? ok now if you wouldn’t mind, can you put your hand on the magic orb to see what elemental affinities you have.”
As I laid my hand on the transparent orb as I was asked to. I asked a question “Do I have to inject magic on the orb or just lay my hand on it?” since I was confused on why they need to know my elemental affinities anyways.
The staff member said, “If you can, inject magic into it.” with what seemed a curious face, but I had no time to question that expression. I started to inject mana into the transparent orb. At the same time I did that, the staff’s face went from curious to pale in a matter of seconds, but I did not know the reason why. I turned my eyes to the orb and saw 4 different colors, red, blue, green, and brown.
“Tha… that can’t be possible… Sir ho.” I cut off the Staff “Alter, call me Alter not sir please.” I said with a light smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.
“A-Alter, I have a question. How old are you?” Said the elf. “I am currently 13 years old, why?” I answered confused. “Th…That's Impossible… a 13 year old that has the 4 elemental affinities and on top of that a first year. Wh..What color is your ring?”
“Ohh.. It's.. Ahh.. Purple.” I said, while letting an embarrassed smile out.
“Unbelievable.” Said the elf staff. “Is that all I need to do?” I asked, wanting to leave already.
“Uh… yeah.. yeah I just need to give you your ID, you could go sit there” she pointed out as she said that. I went to sit down by the reception desk.
After waiting for a couple of minutes the elf called my name. “Alter here’s your ID.” Said the staff
“Well thank you… uhh…”
“Samantha, but you can call me Sam and yes I’m an elf…. Well half elf to be exact.” She said it with an embarrassed expression. “Well then ‘Sam’ thank you”
As we both said our goodbyes to each other I started to head towards the campus and explore with what little time I had before meeting the director.
‘This place is as big as I thought it was’ I told myself while looking for the director’s office. Since there were still classes, there were some students giving me eyes of ‘who is that’ but I ignored them.
After a while of not finding the director’s office I decided to ask a female student who was sitting down in the cafeteria for directions. To my surprise this girl had sharp features, her purple eyes, her yellow hair, her pale skin. It made me question why a girl that has sharp features is alone, without having friends.
Pushing those thoughts away, I proceeded to ask her for directions.
“Excuse me” I said while walking towards her. “Do you perhaps know where the director’s office is?”
The girl looked at me surprised. “You know there are other people you could have asked instead of me right?”
“Well it looked to me like you knew where the office was but if you don’t want to tell me I could just ask someone else.” I answered while looking around.
She let out a sigh before answering me “fine I will show you where the director’s office is.”
“Lead the way,” I said with a smile. ‘Wait I think I’m forgetting something, ohh well probably nothing important’ I said to myself.
After 5 minutes of walking we got to the director’s office, where I asked myself how the hell did I not find it.
“Well here is the director’s office.” Said the yellow haired girl as she was opening the door.
“I would like to thank you for your kindness some time.” I said Reaching out a hand. The purple eyed girl did the same and shaked my hand, “How about you tell me your name since I don’t remember hearing it from you.”
‘So that’s what I forgot, damn’ I said to myself with a surprised smile. “My apologies for that, my name is Alter Violet.”
The purple eyed girl looked at me with a smile, “Well then it’s a pleasure to meet you Alter Violet, my name is Charlotte Bamford.” Answered the yellow haired girl. “Well the pleasure is all mine Charlotte Bamford.” I followed up with.
“Anyways” said Charlotte, “until next time Alter” while waving her hand to me and of course I did that same and went back to the main topic.
As I walked into the director’s office I heard a voice that I thought I was not going to hear from it again.
“Hello there Al, long time no see.”
CHARLOTTE BAMFORD
‘Will school always be this bad’ is what I told myself. Just because I have 3 elemental affinities doesn’t mean I want attention, I just want a normal life. My parents would always say ‘no matter what powers you have, you never have to treat someone like a lowly person. They are people no matter what race they are, every person is the same as us so please treat them well Charlotte.’
I had always thought everyone was the same, since they all use me for fame, money, or politics. I never had ‘real friends’ because of that, I would always rather be alone since people called me arrogant for having 3 elemental affinities. Sometimes even my teachers and people around me would call me a monster for having a ‘Green’ ring.
That was until I met Alter Violet. His long black curly hair, tied from the back to leave his bangs out. His brown eyes turned honey when the sun hit them. A slim light skin body. But the part that stood out to me was the color of his ring, ‘a purple ring?’ I thought to myself.
I’ve seen people with green rings but never seen a purple ring, yet Alter didn’t look that old, 14 years old at most. But that doesn’t explain how he got a purple ring, even the strongest people have blue or green rings but they have never achieved purple rings.
The moment I saw him, was the moment I felt a sudden pressure of mana being applied to the air. I’m sure everyone felt it, but thought it was me since I’m the only person with more than one elemental affinities aside from the school director.
‘What is this monster doing here?’ I thought to myself. He must have a large mana pool to be releasing that much mana.
But then the sudden pressure disappeared without any trace of it. I looked at the boy but he was normal, no, he had no trace of mana, not one bit.
“Excuse me… do you perhaps know where the director’s office is?” Said the curly haired boy.
‘What was that?’ I said in my head, still confused about the mana pressure that was released. Never mind that, if I’m correct he asked where the director’s office was. I looked around, “You know there are other people you could have asked instead of me right?” I responded.
He looked around and said “Well it looked to me like you knew where the office was but if you don’t want to tell me I could just ask someone else.”
‘What the hell am I getting into.’ I let out a sign, “fine I will show you where the director’s office is.” The brown eyed boy let out a smile before saying “Lead the way”.
‘I never seen him on campus before, he’s probably a transfer student.’ I said to myself trying to still figure out if he was responsible for releasing mana in the air, before I knew it we were already outside the director’s office.
Being a transfer student during the middle of the semester was a sign that he was not a normal student but I still can put my finger on it. As I opened the door of the office I stopped thinking about it.
“Well here is the director’s office.” I said, trying not to get caught up in whatever he is in. As I turned around to leave he extended his arm, “I would like to thank you for your kindness some time.” I reached for the hand and shaked it, “How about you tell me your name since I don’t remember hearing it from you.”
“My apologies, my name is Alter Violet.” I gave him a smile, “well Alter Violet it’s a pleasure to meet you, my name Charlotte Bamford.”
“The pleasure is all mine Charlotte Bamford.” Said Alter.
“Anyways, until next time Alter.” Followed by a waving hand I gave him while leaving.
