It was the month of August and with a clear weather the students would have liked to roam the campus or play sports or other activities if not for the unit test coming up at the month end.
One would find students immersed in books either in their rooms or libraries or just in any random classroom of the school. Some taking guidance from teachers. Most of the classes were over and students had only 1 or 2 classes remaining for the day. However, there were even those who were just idling around and having a little leisure time like Alex and his friends. Currently they were in the cafeteria having breakfast.
"Man, I don't know about you guys but I am going to fail for sure in algebra." Grey grumbled as he slumped down on the table.
"Not much of a surprise seeing how you and Alex spent most of your time outside class during Brice's lectures.” Nova commented.
“Hey that was only one time.” Grey rebutted.
“Yeah, and remind me whose fault was that?” Alex said while spreading jam on his bread.
"Come on Alex, work with me here! Anyways at least we'll fail together." Grey said with a grin.
"Um actually no you can go ahead and fail but I am good." Alex said.
"What?! betrayal!! I thought you were my brother, ho—
"Shut up Grey before I'll have to shut you up." Maddy yelled at him.
"Anyways I heard there was a new admission in your class, is that right Tom?" Nova asked.
"Yeah, she just took an admission the day before yesterday." Tom replied excited.
"And is she beautiful? What is she like?" Nova asked getting eager.
"Yeah, she's damn beau- I mean yeah she... she's uh alright." Tom words trailed off as he got a cold glare from Maddy.
"Ooh someone's jealou- I me-mean we've got a ne... new admission too you k-know." Alex was trying to tease Maddy but even he was frightened of her glare.
"Oh, don't get me started about it, I am telling you it's his accent. He is talk of all the girls now." Grey said grumpily.
Maddy, "Yeah, I heard he's quite the handsome. Moreover, he has a mysterious accent. And charm—
"Ahem, ahem." Tom raised an eyebrow towards Maddy.
"What Tom? drink some water if you have difficulty chewing." Maddy scowled.
"Ye-yeah I'll do that." Tom fake sobbed as he gulped down some water. Alex just gave a helpless expression and Nova and Nina began giggling.
“Well, whatever he is, I am sure you aren’t interested right Maddy? I mean after all you have a boyfriend right here, don’t you?” Nina said while patting Tom’s shoulder.
Maddy narrowed her eyes before sighing. “Yeah, I suppose I already have someone, count yourself lucky Thomas.” Maddy said with a keen gaze before returning to her breakfast.
Tom nodded with a sheepish smile and took a quick glance towards Nina to thank her. Nina winked at him, gesturing with her hand waving so as to say ‘mention not’.
Alex had a smile on his face as he watched the group’s interaction. He had become quite fond of this group; it somehow made him forget that not long ago he had just killed someone and done some unbelievable things.
…
Some while later when Alex’s physical education class was about to begin Miracle who had been silent since the incident last two weeks spoke up. ‘You seem to be enjoying your life quite a bit now.’
“Woah!!”
Alex jumped up at the sudden voice in his mind and ended up screaming at a girl passing beside him. The girl startled, looked at Alex wondering whether he was alright. Even the surrounding students did.
“Woah, what a nice sky! The weather sure is great!” With that and a plastered smile on his face he began to walk forward dying of embarrassment all the while leaving everyone confused.
‘Will you not pop up in my mind suddenly? I tried to talk with you for almost two weeks and this is how you do a greeting?!’ Alex screamed in his mind.
‘You’re not the only one who’ll suffer the backlash from using that much excessive power, not to mention I had to almost bring you back from the dead.’
Due to the unique nature of their soul contract, if Alex tries to wield more power than he could handle it would have an adverse effect on both the parties.
Alex didn’t rebuke anything further, instead he asked ‘So, what’s the call for? Are you going to ask me to make good on the promise and find your sister?’
‘Not yet, you’re still far too weak before you can go on a search for her. Starting today I will start training you. I can bring you into my dimension and teach you but you can stay there for only a few minutes. You’ll have to do your training on earth by yourself.’
‘That seems like a tall order- but I will do it regardless.’ Alex wasn’t keen on doing it and was about to express his disapproval but suddenly changed his mind when he heard a low growl.
‘Till then I expect that you stay out of trouble.’ Miracle reminded.
‘Oh, please as if trouble will come looking for me and fell from the sky.’ Alex said as he began stretching his neck and looked up towards the sky. For a few brief seconds he caught a glimpse of two shadows flying through the sky. He rubbed his eyes thinking if he was hallucinating. The next moment he saw something falling towards him.
Without having any time to react a dark ocean coloured stone fell on his forehead causing Alex to fall on the ground. The stone bounced off and fell into his hands.
“Ow! Ow! Shit! That, hurts!” As Alex cursed on the stone Miracle’s voice rang in his head.
‘Oi! Kid! What did you do?’
‘What do you mean what did I do?’
‘That thing in your hand. What is that?’
Alex then noticed the stone in his hand. ‘This… didn’t it just fell from the sky?’
‘Hide it! quick or throw it away—
Suddenly Alex’s attention was taken away by an unfamiliar voice. “You, where did you find that?”
Alex looked up and saw a boy looking down at him or more specifically the stone in his hands. He felt a chill run down his spine as though the boy’s gaze was piercing right through him.
