Chapter 4

Chapter 4

Jan 29, 2023

I stared at my computer and attempted to get some sentences down but my mind came up blank.

I never was a plotter and I never had any writer friends so I was not only stumped but I could feel my loneliness creep up on me.

I leaned back in my chair and stared at the dorm room's ceiling as if it would suddenly give me answers.

Maybe I should actually read for once. I had brought some books with me to university but they've been collecting dust in the corner.

Angelo wasn't kind enough to keep me company as he had another lecture he needed to attend and I found myself glancing to his side of the room every so often as if he would magically appear.

I really needed friends.

The icebreakers and the exchanging of numbers didn't help in any capacity as I found myself craving for some conversation to avoid any tasks that require my brain to think.

I would contact my old high school friends but that would require having them in the first place.

I heard a knock at the door and I grumbled to myself before trudging towards it.

Just after I unlocked it, the door swung open and I found myself staring at a very tall man. He couldn't have been much older than me but his wide nose and thin eyes reminded me of someone that I couldn't place my finger on.

"Oh, sorry. I thought Angelo was opening the door," the man said. His smile was polite and seemed slightly forced. "He forgot to give me back my charger so I thought I would stop by since I was in the area."

"Who are you?" My face was stuck in a shocked expression and I attempted to figure out why this random man would know Angelo.

"I'm Angelo's older brother, Daniel."

There was a slew of words that erupted from down the hallway and Angelo ran up to the door with his bag falling off one shoulder.

The two had a back-and-forth conversation in what seemed to be Tagalog and Angelo let out an angry huff. He marched into the room to grab something off his desk and shoved it into his brother's hands once he got close enough.

"Haaah, what's your problem?" Daniel let out a scoff in disbelief. "Is this how you treat all your guests?"

"I didn't invite you, bitch," Angelo said with a distinct accent. "Stop checking up on me like you're my mother."

They exchanged a few words in Tagalog again and I watched with raised eyebrows. I didn't completely understand what was going on but both of their personalities had flipped the moment they came into contact with each other.

"Hey," I weakly said. If this continued, someone will call campus security on us. "Hey!"

My raised voice snapped them both out of their fight and I saw a brief flash of shock appear in Angelo's eyes. He then turned to his older brother and grabbed the door handle.

"Did you need anything else?" Angelo asked.

"N—"

The door was slammed shut before Danial could finish speaking. Angelo stood there for a few moments with his ear pressed up against the door.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Shhh," Angelo gave a dismissive wave. "He's not gone yet."

More time passed before Angelo peeled himself away from the door and turned to me with a smile on his face.

"Ready for movie night?"

Two authors decide to swap genres when they both get into writer's block one day. There's one issue, neither has any idea how to write the genre they were assigned.

Phet "Boo" Thongdi is a horror writer with small notoriety online. He isn't the most famous writer around but his viewership is nothing to scoff at. Still, he can't help but feel discouraged and lose steam when he sees no one is interested in reading queer horror.

Angelo Reyes writes out all his gay romance fantasies, especially on the not-so-innocent side, for the online world to see. No sad endings allowed! It's only inevitable that the crushing pressure of his audience leads him to writer's block.

The two roommates vent their writing frustrations to each other one day which leads to an idea. They should swap genres.
