Keijo and Sakari had found a meeting spot that they agreed to go to whenever they had important updates; a cafe that was a fifteen-minute walk from the headquarters that they would be infiltrating. Sakari was feeling confident about having Keijo as a partner. He already knew that he was a social, friendly being, a joy to be around, and even Sakari enjoyed his company more than he enjoyed most others.
Keijo was a sweet, young boy with a heart of gold. He wanted nothing more in the world than to solve every issue he came across and make the world better for anyone and everyone he met. He hadn’t been in the field much and had joined the agency a year after Sakari did, but he still seemed as excited for the mission as Sakari himself was. Sakari could tell that they would work well together.
They had both brought their laptops and their collective research to the café and had laid it out on a large table. Keijo had some warm Chai tea in his hands, and Sakari decided to stick to juice.
“You know, I’m excited to see what you do in the field, Sakari. You’ve been on paperwork for a while now…”
“Yes… It was because I got shot in the last mission I went on.”
Keijo gave Sakari a shocked look, which amused him a bit. “You what??”
“I got shot. Right here.” Sakari pointed to where he had been shot around half a year ago, months since healed. “I still got the man arrested though.”
“Jeez- ” Keijo sat back in the booth chair, exasperated. “You’re cooler than I thought… You’ve done it all.”
Sakari smiled slightly and tilted his head in an ‘eh’ manner. “I haven’t gotten a supervillain arrested.”
“You think they’re supervillain level?”
“Well…” Sakari sat forward and pulled out a folder with all the printed news articles of crimes that the Korhonen brothers had committed. He slid them towards Keijo and watched as he read through them. “This isn’t even half. I only picked out the worst to print off.”
“Yeah… They’re insane…” Keijo sighed. “I couldn’t find out much about Eji… I can’t be of much help to you. All I know is that he is irrational… some say bipolar but extreme… very tall and wears corsets and heels for some reason… maybe to make himself more intimidating.”
Sakari sipped his juice. “I guess we’ll find out…”
He could tell that Keijo was inspecting his face, but he didn’t know what he wanted. It was obvious there was some burning question that Keijo seemed to be asking with just his eyes. Sakari couldn’t read that…
“What did the boss say to you when he closed the door…?”
“Ah. That if I did anything wrong, I would likely die.”
At that, Keijo seemed to nearly choke on his drink. “What?? And you’re cool with this?? It doesn’t make you terrified??”
“Of course it does. I just don’t show it.”
Keijo relaxed, though his face showed clear worry. “I really respect you, Jokinen.”
“And I respect you too, Makinen.”
For a few minutes, they sat in silence, reading through the materials that they
had both brought. The more Sakari read through Eji’s crimes and reports, the
more nervous he got, but for some reason there was a sense of calm too. It was
nice to finally be back on the job. He was sick of being babied for having a
small injury. He was always going to ignore when people told him it was a
gunshot that missed vital organs by millimetres. Small injury. Tis but a
scratch. Sakari had a high pain threshold anyways.
As soon as Sakari had finished his drink, he stood up abruptly and slid his entire pile of papers over to Keijo.
“I have a plan. I don’t need these papers anymore, they’re all yours.”
“Oh- well, thank you!”
Sakari gave him a small smile, a nod of approval, and left the café to go home and prepare for his mission.
Thank you for reading this far. More will come soon. This is your daily reminder to drink some water <3
