It was finally time to go back home for Christmas. Blair was excited to visit her family and work out things with her sister. She knew she owed Alexa an explanation about Ava, but she also wanted to consult her about her growing feelings for Olivia. However, before Blair could finish her thoughts Olivia showed up right in front of her with a suspicious grin.
“Hey sunshine! I was wondering if I could talk to you about something?”
“Ok….but you’re being super suspicious” Blair said with a hint of reservation.
“What??? Me? Suspicious? It’s nothing serious, but I was wondering if I could come with you for Christmas.” Said Olivia as if this was the most normal thing ever.
“What? With me? Like to my house? Huh?”
Blair was utterly confused at this turn of events. Why in the world would she want to come with her. Her house was boring, and her family wasn’t that exciting, it just didn’t add up. For some reason though she felt her chest tighten at the thought of introducing Olivia to her family. She couldn’t believe she was actually considering this in her own head. Blairs mind wandered off to Olivia coming over and them having fun conversations, playing games and maybe? Maybe…. What? Blair immediately turned bright red at where her dangerous thoughts were leading her to. Thankfully, Olivia chimed in pulling her back into the conversation.
“Yeah, I had a lot of fun last time and I didn’t properly introduce myself. Plus, my family situation isn’t the greatest and I thought it would be nice to spend Christmas with you.”
Blair had this thought before, but Olivia really was a smooth talker. She could say the most embarrassing things easily and just be her usual confident self.
“S-S-Sure that’d be great actually. I’d super love that. L-L-Let me just call my parents really quick to let them know. I’m sure they’d be ecstatic to have you.” Blair said stumbling over her words.
“Alright, just let me know when we’re going. See you soon sunshine.” said Olivia winking and strutting off into the distance.
Blair made the call and of course they were more than thrilled that Blair actually wanted to bring someone over. This the first time since her falling out with Ava that she’d be spending time with someone else on Christmas. Sure, her family would still be there, but she thought it would be nice if they went out somewhere just the two of them. Blair wasn’t confidant enough to ask Olivia out yet, so she was taking things slow and savoring the new experiences she was having with her.
Nevertheless, Blair was very nervous and called Olivia back saying they were good to go to her house anytime.
“Hell yeah, I’ll be just a minute. Got to get some things then we’ll jump in my car and be out of here.” Olivia said with some pep in her step.
Olivia came back and they were off headed to Blairs house. Olivia seemed overly excited and Blair could feel her stomach in knots.
“It’s going to be fiiinnnee. Don’t overact to much sunshine. I’ll be on my best behavior around the parents. Promise.” Olivia said while she took Blairs hand in hers.
Blair obviously screamed internally at this sudden show of affection but did what she could to not express her joy.
“I-I-I know Liv, but its not my parents I’m worried about. Its Alexa.” Said Blair with a grim expression.
Blair knew Alexa could be protective of her and with Olivia’s attitude she feared they would clash sooner rather than later.
“Like I said before sunshine, I’m sure everything will be fine and hey who doesn’t like me?” Olivia said flashing a mischievous grin towards Blair.
Blair’s eyebrow twitched and her face grew sullen. She worried if everything really was going to be ok. Just as they finished talking, they arrived at Blairs house, and it was finally time. The final countdown. Down to the wire. Zero hour. Do or die. Blair’s brain was in overdrive, but Olivia looked as calm and beautiful as ever. She was like a serene sea. They both got out of the car and knocked on the door.
Of course, it was Alexa who had answered it expecting just Blair. Instead, she was greeted by another tall and intimidating person who was wrapping their arms around Blair.
“Heya! I’m Olivia and its nice to finally introduce myself to Blairs family.” Olivia said extending her hand for a handshake.
Alexa was very confused at this sudden development. If Blair brought anyone home for Christmas, she thought it would’ve for sure been Ava, but right in front of her eyes was someone else. She barley remembered this woman from the last time Bair brought people over because admittedly she was to overcome with anger to think about anything else. Also were they this close last time? She thought as she looked down to the arm wrapped around Blairs waist.
It was an awkward silence where Alexa was looking at Olivia like she was giving her a warning. Olivia wondered what was happening and began to sweat a little. Alexa just rolled her eyes and proceeded to walk back into the house.
“Come inside you two. Mom and Dad went out for some things, so they’ll be back later. Make yourself comfortable in the meantime. Oh, and Olivia come with me out back for a little bit.”
Blair looked at Olivia worryingly
“It’s alright sunshine. She probably just wants to make sure everything’s ok” Olivia said with a calming smile
Alexa walked Olivia out to the back and immediately asked what she wanted without holding anything back.
“So? You like my sister huh?” Alexa said with deadpanned face.
Olivia did NOT expect this and gave Alexa a dumfounded kind of look.
“Oh, come on. Its like you’re not even trying to hide it. Even an idiot could see it. Just make sure to not hurt her. I don’t have to explain about what we think of Ava right?”
“Of course, but we aren’t together or anything. I do plan to ask her while I’m here though”
“You don’t seem like a bad person, and it looks like you can handle yourself or if need be, protect Blair. She’s a tough one, but if she’s brought you here your chances seem to be good. So, I’ll wish you luck.” Said Ava waving her hand as she headed back inside.
Olivia was ecstatic. Not only did she just get confirmation that her chances seem good, but she also got approval from Blair’s sister. It seemed like coming here with Blair was the right choice after all. Olivia was still worried about how she was going to ask Blair out but somehow her body felt lighter and she was as happy as can be.
“Everything ok?” Blair said with worrying anticipation.
“Way better than ok sunshine. Now come here!” Olivia said picking up Blair bridal style and swinging here around in circles
“W-W-What are you doing?!? Liv! Wait a minute! C’mon put me down!!” Blair said as they both laughed happily while being in each other’s company.
Alexa felt like she turned invisible and wondered if the two realized that she was still there. Sighing she looked on to her sister laughing happily and almost felt like she could cry. In this moment she felt like she could truly leave Blair to Olivia. She never thought she’d ever see her little sister like that again. She still had her reservations, but Blair's life seemed to be looking up and she couldn’t be happier for her.
She knew her sister Blair would have to go through some challenges in life. Ever since Blair told her she liked girls instead of guys her heart grew uneasy. She supported her sister with everything she had, but she’d heard the horror stories of the persecution, the violence, and hate directed toward the LGBTQ+ community. If nothing else, she wanted to become a rock for Blair so that whatever happened she’d always be there for her.
The incident with Ava really tore at Alexa's heart. She thought Ava was fine because they had been childhood friends and grew up together, but she forgot the harshness of high school. She swore if she ever saw her again, she’d make her pay for what she did to her little sister, but then she suddenly saw her and she right back by Blairs side like nothing ever happened. Alexa thought that they must have come to an understanding, but she couldn’t forgive the pain and hurt Ava caused Blair. She endured that dreadful day for her sister’s sake easing up on her murderous aura so they could do their project in peace. Instead of unease and worry though, now Alexa felt a sense of peace she hadn’t felt for Blair in a long time.
