“Hey, Timokha! Who's that with you?” he asked an estate trustee.
Timofei introduced them to each other.
The man's name was Vova. He wasn't even surprised when Timofei told about Pasha as a new clan member having magical training here.
“So you're teaching young people now?” said Vova to the estate trustee chuckling. “Good for you.”
Then they discussed the problem. While Vova and Timofei were the ones who was talking mostly Pavel noticed that the estate trustee became more open and friendly. Timofei seemed to be not so sociable person earlier. And Pavel had to question him constantly to get any information on the way. Perhaps it was all about Pavel himself because Timofei hadn't any issues with communication now with Vova. Or perhaps he just didn't get used to Pavel.
They've found out that on the weekend Vova with his two friends Oleg and Tolik went fishing. First all three of them felt themselves bad. Then when they came home their families felt bad. But the weirdest thing was that the symptoms were all different.
“It had been started when Oleg felt a stomach ache,” said Vova. “We were still there near to the river. I felt a headache as soon as came home.”
His daughter felt a sore throat soon. Tolik had a conjunctivitis or something like that. His wife had ear ache and his son had a rash he hadn't before.
Timofei and Pavel left Vova soon. Timofei only asked him one more question about a place where Vova and his friends had went fishing.
“So what's next?” asked Pavel.
Timofei was silent for a minute thinking then he said “Well, usually I would go to the river where they had been that day.”
“That's why you asked him,” understood Pavel. “You think they got it there. Whatever it is.”
“It had started there,” Timofei nodded. “But it'll be better if we visit Oleg first.”
“Why?” asked Pavel. But a moment later he answered his own question. “He was the first who felt himself bad, right?”
“Yes. It could be some reason why.”
“What reason? It should be something specific?”
“There's no rule or something like that,” said Timofei. “Maybe some kind of weakness which made him vulnerable. But it may be just something accidental. So this visit might give us some clue. And may not. Though it would be better to check out just in case.”
It turned out that Oleg was living in the same neighborhood. So they didn't need to go too far.
Timofei contacted Oleg with his microchip and asked him to went out and meet them. Then the estate trustee asked a few questions trying to find out if there were anything weird happening to Oleg or around him while fishing.
“Everything was just as usual,” Oleg said it multiple times.
There were no one around just three of them fishing. They ate good fresh food partially cooked by themselves. They got chargrill with them. They were also drinking but it wasn't vodka from some shop. It was a moonshine Vova made himself. They always drank it while fishing and nothing happened.
“It seemed to be not much time for actual fishing, huh,” Timofei commented on.
“No, no, you are wrong!” answered Oleg. “We managed to do everything. Especially fishing.”
“Were the fish biting?” asked Timofei.
“Not so good to be honest.”
“I see.”
They said goodbye to Oleg and went away.
“So,” Pavel started another conversation. “Is there anything I have to pay attention to?”
“Actually aside from multiple symptoms different for everybody I see nothing myself,” Timofei shrugged his shoulders and added. “I can assume that it's a spirit of disease. But I still don't understand why it's here and why it happens to be so strong here.”
Pavel wanted to ask Timofei to tell more about this spirit of disease when he heard someone calling them from behind.
