Dear father,

It is too late. Mother died this morning.

Her lungs could not keep any longer, no matter how hard she tried.

Her last words were that she loved me. And she loved you, too.

We shall bury her near the sea, in her favourite childhood spot.

Grandmamma and I are both inconsolable.
