Adrien took the news beautifully and now all I had to do was ask Chase if he wanted to move out with me and live with Riley for a while.
I walked into Chase’s room to see him sitting on his bed, looking at his phone.
“Hey, Chase,” I said with a smile.
Chase then looked up from his phone and set it down next to him.
“What’s up?” Chase said with a smile.
“There’s something I wanted to talk to you about,” I said.
I turned around and shut the door behind me. I then walked over to Chase’s bed and sat down next to him.
“I talked to Riley and decided that I want to move out,” I said, feeling a tiny weight lift off my chest. “Riley said that I could stay with her and if you want to move out as well, she said you could stay with her too.”
Chase stared at me for a moment.
“I don’t know,” Chase said, hesitantly.
“It’s ok if you don’t want to. I totally understand,” I said, meaning every word.
Chase sat there for a moment and then said, “Alright. But, we have to announce to the family and say that there’s nothing they can do to stop us.”
I nodded.
“Also, I want to tell them I’m gay before we leave,” Chase said.
I nodded.
“Friday?” I asked.
“Friday,” Chase repeated with a nod.
“Ok, well I’ll get to packing,” I said, standing up. “See you later.”
A few days later, Chase and I stood in the living room in front of our parents and siblings seated on the couch.
Joselina looked less than interested in what we were going to say, while Mom, Dad, Ethan and Estelle looked at us with curiosity.
Looking at Estelle with her dark brown hair held back in a high ponytail and blue eyes made me feel kinda guilty for wanting to move out. She had always been nice to me.
Chase cleared his throat and began to speak, “Dahlia and I have made a decision on moving out.”
My parents, Joselina, and Estelle looked at us with their eyes nearly bulging out of their heads in shock. Ethan gave us an encouraging smile as Chase continued.
“There is nothing you can do to change our minds,” Chase said.
I then reached for Chase’s hand and squeezed it to show my support for his decision.
“I also have something to confess,” Chase began. “I’m gay. I have been for a while, I just never knew how to tell you all. I also have a kind and amazing boyfriend.”
My parents and Joselina gave Chase judgemental looks while Estelle gave a supportive smile.
“I’m also tired of the way you treat me. You make me feel like trash all the time. It’s not my fault that I have vitiligo and heterochromia. I also don’t care if you think I look like a freak or a monster. I think I look beautiful and I’m proud of who I am. If you can’t accept me and love me for who I am, it’s your loss because I’m pretty great,” I said, shaking as my heart beat faster and faster.
The room went silent.
“Also, Chase and I will be out of your hair in just a few minutes. Adrien, Riley, Jackson, Rowan, and Gracie will be over in a little bit to help us move,” I said.
The room went silent again.
“I’ll help you move,” Ethan said with a smile.
“Me too,” Estelle agreed with a smile.
My Mom and Dad along with Josalina just sat there not saying anything.
The doorbell then rang.
“The door’s open!” Chase yelled.
The door opened and Adrien, Riley, Jackson, Rowan, and Gracie entered with smiles on their faces.
“You ready to get packing?” Jackson said, clapping his hands together.
“Yes,” Chase and I said in unison, ignoring my parents and Josalina on the couch.
We then all went up stairs and started grabbing boxes out of our rooms.
Rowan, Estelle, Jackson, and Chase went into Chase's room and grabbed boxes from his room while Ethan, Gracie, Riley, Adrien, and I went in my room and grabbed boxes.
A little while later, we had all of our stuff packed up and were ready to go.
“This is it,” I said, dusting the invisible dust off my jeans.
“Yep,” Chase said.
Estelle walked over to me holding a box.
“This is for you,” Estelle said, handing me the box.
I opened the box to find a small necklace inside. The necklace read “Strongest” in big metal letters. There was a note in the box that read…
“Dear Dahlia,
I know you have not had the easiest life living with me, but I hope you have a few good memories of home. I know I do. You are the strongest person I know and I want to be just like you. I’ll miss you.
Love,
Your Stelles”
I then began to tear up as I put the note and necklace back in the box so I wouldn’t lose it.
I then wrapped Estelle in a huge hug as I started to cry into her shoulder.
“I’ll miss you too,” I whispered.
“Promise me you’ll call me,” Estelle whispered back, tearing up.
“I promise,” I whispered.
I then let go of her and stood back. I wiped my tears away and sniffed.
Chase then hugged Estelle.
I walked over to Ethan and punched him playfully in the arm.
“See you around, goofball,” Ethan said with a smile.
I started to cry as Ethan then pulled me into a huge hug.
“I’ll miss you, big bro,” I whispered.
“I’ll miss you too, little sis,” Ethan whispered back. “I’ll see you around though.”
Ethan then let go of me and I stepped back.
“Well, I guess it’s time to go,” Chase said, putting his hands in his jean’s front pockets.
“Bye,” I said, walking over to the car.
Adrien opened the door for me and I climbed in. He then climbed in after me. I quickly buckled up and turned to face the window to wave ‘goodbye.’
I started to cry even more as the car started and we started to pull out of the driveway and into the street. I waved ‘goodbye’ frantically until they all became a blur of tiny ants.
I turned to face the front of my seat and cried silently to myself.
Adrien then grabbed my hand in his and squeezed it as if reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.
I then gave him a smile through my tears. My vision then became blurry.
Adrien grabbed me and pulled me close to his chest as I sobbed. He gently ran his fingers through my hair and whispered that I was okay.
