Awoken by her alarm Blair wiped the sleep from her eyes and it was finally Christmas Day. The big day. Blair liked Christmas, but today was even more special than normal. She had finally gone and done it. She asked Olivia out on a date, and she actually said yes. They planned to go after all the day's festivities were over. Blair’s brain was set on overdrive trying to think of what to do and how to prepare for the oncoming day.
The day started out with them opening their stockings and eating breakfast. Classic Christmas music on in the background and a marathon of Christmas themed movies playing on the TV. Olivia had never experienced the holiday's quite like this – with this much joy. With her home life being the way that it was she was loving the atmosphere and the tone around the house. Breakfast was a big spread of waffles, eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Everyone at the table sitting together and enjoying each other’s company, Olivia thought she could get used to this.
“Did you know Olivia? Last Christmas we made Blair laugh so hard OJ shot out of her nose!” Alexa said loving that she can embarrass her little sister like this.
“ALEXA!!!!” Blair screamed from the top her lungs while her face was bright red.
Olivia chuckled at the embarrassed Blair as she tried to shut her sister up and everyone continued their conversations till breakfast was done. Olivia’s heart warmed as she grabbed her very own stocking which Blair’s parents prepared for her on short notice. As they all sat around in the living room, they opened their gifts and took commemorative photos of the special occasion. All of Blairs family were thinking the same thing that they haven’t seen Blair this happy in a long time. The last few Holiday seasons Blair was always had a cold air to her and didn’t do more than what was necessary to not ruin everyone’s fun. Olivia loved when Blair smiled and thought she always shined when she would do it genuinley, (i.e. sunshine). Today was different though, everything about Blair seemed to radiate. It looked as if she had forgotten about all her worries or fears that always seemed to put her on edge. Blair was taking in the moment for what it was and enjoying it wholeheartedly. Blair looked over to Olivia and smiled brightly with outstretched arms calling to join her in some gingerbread house making.
“Come on Liv this is really fun!”
Olivia was caught off guard and was stunned looking at the person she loved. She might have stared a little to long though because Blair's family were looking at her like they would tease her any second.
“Ahem…. Ok sunshine I’m coming!” Olivia said to get out of that embarrassing situation.
“$20 they end up together by the end of the night.” Alexa said to her father.
“I’ll take that bet!” Mr. Reeve’s said confidently that they’re relationship might need more time to develop.
“Oh, I hope they do they’d look so cute together.” said Mrs. Reeve's clasping her hands together.
“Then we’ll just have to cheer them on!” Mr. Reeve’s said enthusiastically.
“Keep it down!” both Alexa and her mom said in unison.
Thankfully they had already gone to the kitchen to start on their gingerbread house. All of her family really did think they made a great pair and if the change in Blair was from Olivia, then they had there blessing.
Blair was in a state of hopelessness. Her mind pulled in every direction trying to drum up the perfect date for Olivia. She had looked up just about every major thing you could do in the area and taken notes on how the perfect date should go. She might have looked composed, but she really was in turmoil.
Step 1: Choose the right location
She had several in mind whether it be the park to have a picnic, the beach, a romantic dinner at a nice restaurant or ice skating.
Step 2: Schedule it
Since it was Christmas, she wanted to spend the first part of the day with her family and leave the second part of the day to have alone time with Olivia.
Step 3: Check the Weather
She’s checked and re-checked it about a thousand times and today’s forecast was sunshine all day.
Step 4: Plan the logistics
Blair already had set aside money for her own personal use and asked if she could use the car already this morning.
It seemed like she had everything in order, but she couldn’t quite calm her nerves. The day was going great so far. If anything, this was one of the best Christmas’s Blair’s had in a long while. That’s what made her all the more nervous though she didn’t want to fuck this up and ruin everything since the day was going so well.
“Sunshine, you doing ok?” Olivia said noticing Blair acting out of sorts.
Blair looked up to the worried Olivia and her expression softened. Did she really believe that if she messed up Olivia would come to hate her? Was her faith in the woman she came to love so low? She could see how Olivia was genuine. Blair looked at Olivia again and all her worries vanished within her dazzling gaze. She knew this woman would take the good and bad when it came to her. She didn’t know where this confidence was coming from but if it was Olivia, she had a feeling everything would be alright.
“I’m ok Liv. Ready for our date?” Blair said with a mischievous grin.
“Of course, I was born ready!” Olivia said enthusiastically.
With that declaration Olivia picked up Blair in her arms and spun around together as they laughed. Olivia was also nervous for her big reveal tonight, but she had a really good feeling that it wouldn’t go like last time. This was the most Blair has opened up and revealed of herself up until this point. Olivia also had noticed Blair flirting – or what she hoped was flirting – and that coupled with Blair’s behavior toward her quelled her doubts of being rejected.
“I’m looking forward to what you have planned.” Olivia said as she ruffled Blairs hair.
“I’m not going to let you down! This for sure will be a day to remember.”
Blair had an air of confidence that she didn’t have before. She had finalized everything in her head and was committed to enjoying the moment rather than needlessly worrying over every little thing.
It was now only an hour or so before their date and everyone was opening there presents they got. Blair’s parents felt bad for Olivia not having things to open, but she said it was fine. She had shown up on short notice, so she said just being there was more than enough. Blair’s parents might not have gotten anything, but Blair did have something to give. It was an impulse purchase she had bought while thinking of her and was too embarrassed to give it to Olivia. This was the perfect time to give it to her: a snazzy watch that fit Olivia’s cool demeanor to a T. She didn’t have any time to wrap it, so she put a bow on the box and attached a handwritten personal note she wrote from her heart on the side.
As everyone finished up Blair came out with the box in hand her hearting thumping out of her chest wondering if she was doing too much too quickly. The bell had already been rung so she committed 100% and stuck her arms out offering the box to Olivia.
“H-H-Here Liv, just a little something I got you…” Blair said with her characteristically flushed face.
Olivia stared at the box - like a deer caught in headlights - for a moment then took the box and opened it.
“Ooooooohhhhhhhh” said the crowd watching this rare scene.
Olivia stared in bewilderment at the classy watch she had just opened. It was just the sort of thing she’d like in jewelry. She couldn’t believe Blair went to the trouble of actually getting her something and she completely loved it. It had been quite a while since someone had put a lot of thought into this kind of thing for Olivia. In a rare moment a tear fell from one of Olivia’s eyes.
“Wow” was all Olivia could muster to say at this moment.
“W-W-W-W-What?!?!? Are you okay Liv????” Blair said in a hurry.
“I’m better than ok sunshine. This is the best present ever.” Olivia said with a warm smile.
Olivia wrapped her arms tightly around Blair embracing her flooding emotions at the thoughtful gift.
“Oooooooooohhhhhh!” the chorus sang again at the touching sight.
Blair had now finally realized all her family was there to behold this event and her eyes began swirling. If it wasn’t evident before then her family certainly knew how she felt toward Olivia now. She never got anyone presents and if she did it was usually obligatory gifts. Everyone knew that’s how she was and yet here Blair was giving a quite expensive looking guest to her “friend”.
Olivia withdrew from Blair and put on the new watch with eager excitement. Knowing Blair had gotten her such a great gift made her heart flutter and her ears grew hot with embarrassment. It had been a while since she was on the receiving end of such affection and was always the one who initiated, so she always surprised herself when acts got the better of her. If this wasn’t a sign of things to come then she didn’t know what would be and was excited for their date.
