“Now! Run away!” The girl shouted to Alex. Just as told he didn’t waste a second running away. Alex didn’t look back and dashed out of the front entrance of the hall. Nothing mattered more to him than his life.
“No, you don’t!” Azmiel shouted as he released several chains after him. But before the chains could even exit the building, the girl’s staff appeared in front of them spinning in a circular motion and blocking them off.
As for Blake, she pinned him down by herself by engaging him in close combat.
*Clank* *Boom*
After a little struggle Azmiel finally blasted the spear away but by that time, Alex was nowhere to be seen.
“You people really like to mess with others business, don’t you?” Azmiel said in an irritated manner as he turned back towards Merissa and launched his chains at her.
Blake got out of the way as the chains bounded her. Coupled with the exhaustion and her mana pool almost completely depleted the girl found it impossible to avoid the chains. Regardless she tried to summon her spear by her side by trying to stretch her constrained hand but immediately regretted afterwards.
Blake had noticed her hand and immediately let out electricity from his hand causing her to shriek in pain.
…
Alex hadn’t even reached football field when suddenly Miracle asked him ‘What are you doing?’
‘What does it look like? I am running away!’
‘Is that what you truly want?’
‘Huh what do you mean? Aren’t I supposed to run if I want to stay alive.’
Miracle was silent for a second before asking ‘Is that truly what you want? You’ll get away this time but what about the next? Or the next one after that? Will you keep running away every time a stronger insect appears?’
Alex stopped in his place. He knew that Miracle was right. Not to mention he didn’t feel right about leaving that girl there alone fighting for him. Although he still doesn’t trust her, it won’t change the fact that she had in fact saved him just now. Without a second thought his legs began moving again as Alex rushed back towards his dorm.
…
“Since you interrupted an important work for us, you’ll need to get punished. And your punishment shall be—
Azmiel leaned forward and whispered in the girl’s ear.
“Death.”
The girl’s eyes widened but her body didn’t listen to her will to resist. “Blake, you haven’t killed anyone yet right?”
“So?”
“Kill her.”
“What? Have you gone crazy Azmiel?! She’s from the Council, if—
“So, what? Are you ready to report that, a lowly dog from the Council got in our way and trampled all over the Black Cloud’s reputation while we didn’t even teach the Council a lesson? And all this because you refused to kill a nobody?” Azmiel asked as he titled his head.
Blake remained silent as Azmiel’s stare kept on him. He then sighed and positioned his hand over her heart like a blade about to pierce through it. But Blake had difficulty proceeding as he found his hand slightly trembling. The girl noticed this.
“You don’t- mhh! Mm…” She thought of reasoning him out of it but a chain suddenly wrapped around her mouth.
“Shut your trap. Now kill her, we can still catch that kid if we hurry.” Azmiel pushed. Blake’s trembling hand began to become stiff as he glanced at Azmiel who was staring at the girl smiling in anticipation of her demise.
His hand moved but before it could kill its target a voice called out to them.
“You want me?! I am here!” They turned around and found Alex running towards them. Azmiel’s face turned into a smirk as he stretched his free hand out and released several chains at him.
‘Focus mana in the sword and release…’
Alex repeated that statement several times in his mind as his sword began to glow in black hue. He then swung his sword several times towards the chains releasing black colored mana slashes and destroying the chains.
Azmiel and Blake’s faces turned into one of surprise as none of them expected Alex to pull off a long-range move. Alex didn’t stop and took advantage of their momentary shock as he picked up the girl’s spear on his way and threw at them.
The two quickly stepped back avoiding it. But Alex’s main aim wasn’t to target them but to deliver the spear to her. As soon as it came within certain proximity of her without having to move her hands to control it, the girl was able to control the spear and cut off the chains.
“Oh no you don’t!” Azmiel roared as he summoned in sword enclosed in chains and swinged it down on her. Still in a weakened state the girl found it difficult to react in time to the sword closing in on her.
*Clank*
Sparks flew as Alex had reached her in time. Deflecting Azmiel’s blow Alex grabbed the girl by her hand and pulled her back with him all the while releasing the mana slashes at the two to keep them at bay.
“Can you dispel the zone spell?” Alex asked.
“Huh? What will—
“Can you or can you not?” Alex asked, aggressively this time.
“I can.”
“Then do it! I’ll handle the rest.”
While the girl had her doubts about, she realized that Alex had a plan and decided to go with it. The next moment she clasped her hands together causing an almost invisible wave to explode out of them.
Azmiel and Blake weren’t able to interrupt her at all due to Alex’s relentless attack. Earlier they were slightly impressed and simply thought that the sword Alex was using was an artifact and had relatively large amount of mana. But now they wondered whether there was an end to it at all!
While Alex continued the barrage, he and the Council girl kept backing away until there was no more room to back away and their backs were against a wall.
“Hah! Now you’re done for!” Blake shouted as he began moving forward while crushing the mana slashes at a faster pace using his gauntlet spell.
“I wonder about that.” Alex said with a smirk as he suddenly stopped the attacks, instead he slammed his fist on the wall beside him or more precisely the emergency alarm button, as his fist shattered through the glass and punched it.
A loud alarm went off all around the dormitory waking up all the students, prefects and guards. Since the zone spell was dispelled, everyone would be able to hear it now.
“Shit… come on, we need to retreat for now!” Azmiel said as he quickly exited the building along with Blake. As soon as they were left the girl who was in a defensive position slumped down on the ground, against the wall. She then heard footsteps coming their way.
“I suppose I should thank you for saving my
life…” The girl turned around while talking when she noticed that Alex was
already gone.
