A God- An individual who has achieved some level of immortality, meaning they either can not die or, if they do, they'll always be reborn.
Angel Bridge- A legendary bridge explorers, adventures, and heroes alike have searched for ages to find. It's rumored that crossing the bridge is enough to grant a person immortality. Others say what lay on its other side is knowledge and power great enough to grant any wish.
Bleed(ing)- Bleeding a sexual partner refers to penetration of a man or woman through anal or vaginal sex. Often this term refers to how a virgin may bleed during their first attempt at receiving penetrative sex. This term can also be a simple reference to a couple’s first sexual encounter. Use of this term does not mean either side of the sexual act must or will bleed, but it is an acknowledgment that someone might.
Botcher- A handyman or fixer. One who fixes things.
Cohidres- A building built with several units for living. Its size is much like an apartment building, but a cohidres has far less privacy. Most units won't have locks or ways to prevent others living in the building from entering any living space. In this way, a cohidres is like a house. Those living in the building will need a key to enter, but once inside, they can access any unit under the roof. These homes may have started as large houses owned by lords that were eventually abandoned and converted to have separate living areas.
Duke- A duke is a member of nobility that ranks directly below the crown. They are the ruler of territories and domains. The title "Duke" can either be passed down by a parent or given as a title by a king or queen. It's also a tradition for men of the royal family to get a new title when they marry.
Eunuch - A man who has been castrated and is incapable of reproduction. Often only the testicles are castrated, but sometimes the penis is taken. Eunuchs are often employed as guards and servants in harems or other women’s quarters and as chamberlains to kings.
Guardsman- An individual who acts as a form of security, protection, or line of defense. Most guards are lucky to find themselves in such stable positions. Often, they are far less educated than a knight but paid well regardless. A guard isn't guaranteed to have many skills at all, much like a mercenary, but they are held to a higher standard. Guards are expected to be lawful and loyal to their employers.
Island- In this world, an Island refers to a land mass large enough to consider a continent. Each island has its own surrounding ocean, and those oceans are stopped from touching or connecting by the many ocean divides that exist between them. Islands vary in size, shape, climate, and ecosystem.
Knight- An individual who has undergone rigorous training and education to act as a law enforcement and peacekeeper. Knights are paid well and treated with respect but can also be feared as much as they are loved. They are incredibly loyal to their house and the lords they serve. It takes a tremendous amount of time and resources to earn knighthood, so most come from wealthy families. It is possible to achieve the studies to become a knight through acts of heroism or befriending individuals with power and status.
Landing- The act of coming to land after a voyage
Lord- Lower ranking than a Duke, Lords share the task of making and shaping laws. They also challenge and check work done by the government. It's highly unusual for a Lord to have more power than a Duke, but a lord can have more tremendous popularity by far. Lords come about in three ways. They may marry a person with the current title and family inheritance of Lord or Lady. A Duke may give them the title of Lord. They may also purchase land till they have enough to qualify as the lord of a territory legally.
Mercenary- An individual who is paid to complete a contracted work. Typically, though not always, their tasks are dangerous and potentially toe the line of what is legally acceptable. Mercenaries have no allegiance and may take work from anyone willing to pay them or pay them more. They are not however guaranteed work. In this world, it is a mercenary's responsibility not only to complete the duties they are hired to fulfill but also to promote themselves in the hope of being hired at all. Many men turn to a mercenary's life not because they seek death and danger but because they lack other options. This is also why most mercenaries don't live long; they lack the skills necessary.
Ocean(’s) Divide- The void space between the ocean of one island and another. These significant gaps are too wide for a ship to cross without magic. Falling into an ocean's divide means certain death. No one has ever returned from the dark plunge. Also called Ocean's edge, Ocean's split, Ocean's scar, and Ocean's fall. Many people have different names for these areas.
Pleasure House- Also known as a brothel, it is a house where paying guests may visit prostitutes. Some pleasure houses indulge in selling various drugs and acts of odder pleasures as well. While most pleasure houses cater to men, a variety is willing to serve women.
Quartermaster- Stand watch as assistant to Officers of the deck and navigators. They serve as helmsmen and perform ship control, navigation, and bridge watch duties.
Reeve- An individual who surpasses the requirements of a knight. While a knight may be prepared to enforce laws and keep the peace, a Reeve has the skill to conduct complex investigations. (If a knight is an average police officer, a reeve is a Detective.) Reeves begin as knights who their lords then nominate. The crown selects from a pool of nominations that they believe is fit for promotion and appoints them to serve. Once a knight becomes a reeve, they have the crown's authority to work and investigate where they believe they are needed. Most choose to return to their territory of origin, but they are no longer pledged to the lords that nominated them. They are then and forever loyal to the crown and the Kingdom as a unified body.
Sailing Master- The ship's officer in charge of navigation and day-to-day running of a vessel.
Sand(s)- A. An increment of time, typically referring to a second.
Exp: He took almost no time, less than a sand, to smash the bug on his arm.
B. Referring to a period of sleep or dreaming.
Exp: Please don't interrupt my sands so late at night, I need them, or I'll be lifeless in the morning.
C. A loose granular substance, typically pale yellowish brown, resulting from the erosion of siliceous and other rocks and forming a major constituent of beaches, riverbeds, the seabed, and deserts.
Exp: I hate going to the beach; sand always gets in my hair.
Stone- A. A rough building material.
Exp: Marry had a beautiful stone table statue placed in her garden.
B. A measurement of length or height near equivalent to 14 feet.
Exp: The house had to have been three stones tall.
Exp: The riverbed went on and on, at least a hundred stones out.
Witch- An individual born with the ability to use magic.
