Jasmine

I breathe heavily, my chest moving up and down as I attempt to conceal my whole body behind a tree. I look over to see that Ro is peeking out from behind a bush, trying to see Zaro.
What the hell is he doing?!
I grab him by the back of his hair, and yank him towards me, and say so.
“What are you doing?! We’re not in the clear yet; they still might find us!”
“Ok, ok, damn.” Suddenly, he grins, and I realize how close we are.
I push him away, and he begins laughing hysterically.
“Are you blushing?!” He looks over at me, moving his hand to my face, trying to tilt it back towards him.
“NO. Get your hand away-” I turn away even more. Ugh. What is he doing? And why does it make me... nervous? I can’t tell.
I slap his hand way, but look back nonetheless, to see that his smirk has spread to his whole face. I hate him even more now.
We’re interrupted from this embarrassing moment by Zaro’s milk-curdling, screeching voice, screaming, “Alright men! They’re not here. Advance. We’ll find them one way or another...” Soon after, their footsteps fade away into the evening light, and I look at Cairo. He looks back at me, and we rejoice together, high-fiving in joy.
“Take that, Zaro!”
“He couldn’t find us, 6 foot for what?! Idiot!”
We collapse in giggles, laughing together on the soft grass, staring up at the sky as the sun turns into stars.
Cairo

I wake up in the morning, and look around. The forest is actually quite pretty.
The trees are a deep shade of blue-green, the foliage is littered with an assortment of colorful flowers, and the ground is filled with crunchy-looking leaves. Birds chirp in the treetops, as the sun radiates down softly through tree branches, casting a golden glow around the ground. Well, might as well get up.
As I make an effort to stand, I’m pulled down by a weight on my shoulder. I look over to see... Jasmine, with her head laying on it. Her copper hair cascades down my arm, in little golden ringlets.
She’s so... beautiful.
I snap out of my trance, and evaluate the situation. Should I... get up? Or should I stay?
I ultimately opt for the latter, and decide to go back to sleep.
In peace, for the first time in a long time.
Finally.
