“There.” Iola pointed out to the rolling fields of green before her. “Across that hill lies the River Plains.”

“The land of your people.” Nesmir slowly guided his hulking warhorse alongside the white thoroughbred stallion Iola was riding on. “Your home.”

“Yes, I can’t wait to get back.” She smiled at him. “Even if it has been a mere few days, it seems almost a lifetime that I was away.”

The city of Sidusca was several miles behind them now. The day and a half ride along the travellers’ road was not much of an eventful one.

News of Sidusca’s change of power was yet to reach the outlying lands and territories. Iola was excited to be bringing such good news to her people, along with the one responsible for all their troubles.

Not a sound did Esamus make on the journey, even while he was not being restrained by Iola. She didn’t have to use her gift to know that the man was mortified beyond his ken.

Little pity did she take on him, if any at all. He deserved everything that was coming to him.
