"You must wake up. There is no time to rest. Someone is coming. If you don't wake up now you will die. You will die. Take my power and wake up. Wake up. Wake up."
…
A distressed Jesse woke up panting as he looked around and realized he was in an unknown place. He noticed he was in a metal shack like home on someone's bed. His knife was lying on the nightstand beside the bed. He unsheathed his knife as he stood up to investigate what happened to him. As he exited the crudely made building, he saw a fire pit which seemed to have been recently used. He immediately thought that maybe they arrived at the new location successfully. As he went further out, he realized that he was incredibly wrong. Where there would be about 100 people laughing and singing and groaning and celebrating the arrival at the new place they would call home, Jesse only saw one other person and it was someone who he didn't recognize. A tall, dapper man with black hair was sitting on a rock looking out into the horizon. Jesse, while still on guard, was somewhat relieved to see he had black hair since Humans can only have normal colored hair whereas Sentients would have more varied coloured hair such as the Tiffany blue hair of the Sentient who Jesse previously killed. Sentients can have black hair, but it is far less common for them.
"Hey there sleepy, you healed pretty fast," said the man on the rock as he stood up and turned to face Jesse, "You were knocked for a few days though."
"Where am I? Who are you?" asked Jesse, even more relieved not seeing a Sentient Crystal in his head.
"Uhm… that is complicated to answer, but I saved your life basically," he explained, walking closer to Jesse, "I was the one that helped you these past few days."
Jesse was confused and held his knife at the man and said, "Ok, you know what. Start by telling me your name and we'll work on from there."
"Elijah. That's my name," stated the man who rescued Jesse, "We good now?"
"What did you mean about you saving my life?" asked Jesse, still a bit untrusting.
"Well, when the Sentients attacked you guys, I found you and brought you back to my camp," Elijah said, "They must've thought you were dead, 'cause you were the only one left alive when I showed up."
"What do you mean I was the only one?" asked Jesse, worrying about his family, "How many people were there? How many people were… dead?"
"I dunno, like 40 maybe, it was hard to tell," explained Elijah as he recalled the events during that day.
"My mom… she… she can't be dead right, she must've escaped right?" Asked Jesse as he tried to find a way around his mom dying, "If there were like 40 people, that means it was only our group that was attacked, so maybe my mom got to another group and maybe she is safe and maybe…"
Elijah interrupted Jesse's freak out and said, "Listen, I hate to say it, but your mom died and in your arms as well. One of the Sentients killed her."
"A Sentient?" Jesse clenched his fists, "Which one? Which one of those demons killed my mom?"
Elijah hesitantly answered Jesse's question, "There were two Sentients actually: A tall lady with blue hair and a shorter guy with pink hair, I can't really give a better description since I didn't get a good look at them ."
"How long were you there then?" Questioned the boy in agony over his mother's death, "If you were there, why didn't the Sentients attack you too?"
"Well… You really don't remember what you did huh," realized the black haired man, "You almost killed them. When your mom was killed, you snapped at them."
Jesse, in utter confusion asked, "How could one Human almost kill two Sentients all on his own? That makes no sense!"
"It would make sense if you weren't Human!" exclaimed Elijah, "Which is exactly you. You aren't Human... not completely Human at least!"
Jesse showed visible confusion on his face and wanted Elijah to explain further. Elijah did so, "You are only half human. Your other half is from the 'monsters' who killed your mother."
Jesse snarked, "Are you saying I'm part Sentient? That makes no sense. My mom was a Human and so am I!"
"Your mom may have been a Human, but are you sure your father was?" Elijah exclaimed trying to persuade his young new friend, "You are half Sentient, you are half of the monster that killed your mother!"
"I don't believe you!" exclaimed Jesse in denial, "I am 100% Human!"
Elijah stepped closer to Jesse as he continued to press the self proclaimed Human and said, "You were 100% Human a few days ago maybe, but now you are Sentient! Just like the monster that killed that mother of yours! You are a monster!"
"Shut up!" Jesse screamed as his eyes suddenly began to glow from all the frustration.
Right after Jesse screamed and fell to the ground, a huge explosion was created around the distressed Jesse blasting Elijah and everything else around him away, destroying the metal shack and fire pit. Jesse blacked out. In this unconscious state he was in, he saw the image of two people standing behind a light, a man and a woman. The woman he could almost instantly tell was his mother, but the man he did not recognize. Based on the midnight blue hair that the man had, he was almost certainly a Sentient. Jesse's mother then turned her body to reveal she was pregnent. Who was the baby? Was it Jesse? If so who was his father? Could it be the Sentient next to his mother? Imarah never spoke to Jesse about his real father, maybe it was because his father was in fact a Sentient, the enemies of Humanity. If his father was a Sentient, what exactly would Jesse be? Half Sentient, half Human?
About two hours after the explosion Jesse caused, he woke up and saw all the destruction he had caused. Elijah did not yet realize Jesse was awake as he ate some fish he had cooked on the repaired fire pit. Elijah seemed to be deep in thought and Jesse, understanding what he had done, did not want to bother the mysterious black haired man any further. Jesse silently stood up as he tried to leave. He grabbed his knife and quickly fled the area of Elijah's camp. When he was out of Elijah's sight, he slowed down as he sighed. Jesse's guilt of destroying Elijah's home after all Elijah did for him was prevalent, after all he took care of Jesse while he was unconscious on multiple occassions and even let the boy rest in his shack. Elijah didn't seem too bad to Jesse, but he did get very aggressive when trying to tell confused kid that he was part Sentient, but Jesse was being very stuborn about that fact so maybe Elijah's sudden aggressive attitude was the best and fastest way to have Jesse come to the same conclusion as Elijah. As a result though, that power that Jesse somehow had destroyed Elijah's home, which made him feel even more remorseful for what had happened.
As Jesse continued to move, he couldn't sway this feeling of uneasiness that had been building up for quite a while. He tried to ignore it as he trekked on with his journey. He was not yet sure where he wanted to go, but he knew he needed to keep moving. As he went on, he found this familiar open area which was utterly destroyed and was filled with dead humans on the ground. These people were from his group during the trip, he could instantly recognize them. Dread filled his heart as he walked past piles of bodies covered in burn marks, he realized that the origin of this horrid sight was from the explosion Elijah said he created. Jesse began to wonder if anyone else had survived. He realized that if anyone had survived the Sentients' attack, they would have surely been killed as a result of Jesse's explosion. As Jesse got closer to what he assumed to be the epicenter of the explosion, he walked and saw countless of the corpses unrecognizable due to the burn wounds. All these people, burned beyond recognition, hurt Jesse's heart when he saw something especially uncanny. Almost perfectly in the center of the battlefield, amongst all of these burned corpses, lyed a body with almost no blemishes, no burn marks and barely any wounds other than a gaping hole in the abdominal region. His mother's body, almost perfectly fine, was lying as if she was asleep waiting to be woken up. Jesse fell to his knees with streams pouring out of his eyes. His mother was dead, the women who raised him had died. He grabbed onto his mother's body trying to control his breathing. His stuttered breath became more controlled as his tightened grip on his mother got loose.
Once Jesse controlled himself again, he carefully placed his mother back onto the ground and wiped the tears from his red eyes. Before he stood up he saw something lying besides his mother. It was the necklace his sister made for him, the necklace made from the Sentient Crystal, the necklace that Jesse refused to accept. Jesse took the necklace from beside his mother and put it around his neck. He stood up as Elijah approached him from behind.
Elijah asked the Half Human, "So, you remember what happened?"
Elijah was left without a response until, "Yeah. Sorry about what I did… back there."
"Don't worry about it," Elijah reassured, "I've been meaning to leave this place anyways."
Jesse let out a small smile and asked, "What are you gonna do now?"
"Well I have somewhere I need to go soon. What about you?" Replied Elijah.
Jesse remained silent, which made Elijah understand what Jesse wanted, "You want revenge don't you?" asked Elijah.
Jesse remained silent once again. Elijah assumed silence meant approval and said, "Alright then. Let's go!"
Jesse spun his head to look at Elijah as his face was left in confusion, "We can't, it will be too dangerous for you."
Elijah laughed as he replied, "What do you mean, I can't? We Half Sentients, Half Humans have to stick together, don't we?"
Jesse laughed in realization, "Alright then. Where should we go?"
