Greyson’s POV:
To say I was shocked when Levi called me would be a complete understatement. Levi seems to be stubborn, so I don’t think he suddenly changed his mind about trusting myself and Elijah. I have a theory that he has no one else to turn to. I don’t know much about his past yet, as Paxton hasn’t given me anything and Levi hasn’t said a word about himself.
He’s probably overwhelmed and exhausted; that must have encouraged him to call me as well. The poor boy is leaning against the door, staring out the window. He looks so numb, but he’s still holding my hand. I’m shocked he took my hand, but I won’t ever complain about it.
“I’m sorry,” Levi murmurs, so low I almost don’t hear it.
“I told you that I’m glad you called me, Levi,” I say, rubbing the back of his hand with my thumb. “Just relax, I know you are not in the best state of mind right now and you don’t fully know why you called me. Don’t think about that right now, okay?”
He nods. “You said this… soulmate connection is something I cannot really feel, right?”
“Not as strongly as a demon, but you may feel attraction or even just be a bit drawn to us,” I inform him.
“Could that be why I made the choice to call you?”
“It could be. Paxton knows more about it than I do. He was Master Alastor’s right hand for thousands of years, more so than the rest of us, so you could speak with him if you’re curious.”
Levi nods again, falling silent once more. He doesn’t move once I pull up in the driveway of the mansion, so I put on his backpack and go around to his side and lift him up. He startles, as if he didn’t realize we got here, which I suppose is probable based on how messed up his brain seems to be right now.
“Come on, daydreamer,” I say, carrying him toward the house.
Lexi’s car isn’t back yet, which surprises me. Over the phone, Elijah sounded pretty frantic, so I’m shocked that he didn’t just take Lexi’s car and slam on the gas. Especially since Lexi would probably encourage chaotic driving since he knows how obsessive Elijah is with Levi at the moment.
The obsession probably won’t die, but it will lessen when Levi has adjusted to us.
I carry him into the living room, and Gale is in the kitchen while Winston is watching a movie, laying in the recliner with a beer. The aroma of chocolate and alcohol are drifting through the air, and I’m sure Gale is experimenting with some kind of dessert.
“Back already?” Winston asks.
I scowl at him and he holds up his hands in surrender, but he doesn’t apologize. I make sure Levi is comfortable, wrapping him up in a blanket before taking his backpack to mine and Elijah’s room. If Levi wants to sleep in the spare room, that’s fine, but I’m hopeful he’ll want to sleep with us.
When I get back, I’m surprised to see Gale sitting by Levi. She doesn’t like to abandon her work halfway through, but I can see her dessert is unfinished. There are still mixing bowls and ingredients on the counter, and she still has flour on her skirt even though she likes to clean up before presenting herself to people after baking.
“I needed a sampler,” Gale says, nodding to a small plate of a small, half finished souffle in a ramekin.
Levi smiles softly. “It’s really good,” he assures her. “I just don’t have too much of an appetite right now.”
“I understand, darling,” Gale says, picking up the plate and handing it to me. “It’s a souffle with stout in it.”
I try a bite and nod in approval. “It’s good! New recipe?”
“More a development of an old one,” Gale says as the front door slams open.
Winston jumps at the sound, spilling beer all over himself. “Fuck!”
Elijah sprints into the living room and jumps onto the couch, holding a bag. “I got you stuff!” he exclaims, pulling out pints of ice cream, a hot pack, sleeping pills, and fuzzy socks. “Lexi has the other bag.”
Levi seems surprised. “Thank you,” he says, his voice soft and still fragile.
“You look so tired,” Elijah coos. “Why is he not in pajamas and in bed?! Greyson, you know better!”
“We were waiting for you, love,” I say, smiling at his overenthusiasm. “Levi, are you comfortable sleeping in our room or would you prefer the guest room?”
Levi looks at Elijah’s pleading face and he can’t seem to help the blush that crawls up his face. “I’ll sleep in your room, I guess.”
“You don’t have to if you don’t feel comfortable,” Elijah says quickly, but it’s clear, to me at least, that he hates the words coming out of his mouth.
“I’ll just be sleeping, so it’s not like it matters where I am,” Levi says, shrugging.
Elijah nods, obviously eager, and he shyly holds his hand out. He almost combusts when Levi takes his hand, but I’m impressed that he keeps himself under control. Elijah looks to me, silently encouraging me to follow.
He guides Levi to our room and leaves Levi in the middle of the room, running to the closet and getting a set of pajamas for our soulmate. Elijah gives Levi no chance to deny wearing clothes that aren’t his, ushering him to the bathroom and closing the door for him.
“How was he when you got there?” Elijah asks me, his voice lowered.
“Not physically injured, but clearly having some kind of mental trauma. Hopefully Paxton can get something for us.”
Elijah furrows his eyebrows. “Paxton?”
“I asked him to run a background check on Levi, just to see what could be causing his trauma.”
“That’s kind of stalker-ish, Greyson.” Elijah purses his lips in annoyance. “He’s going to be mad when he figures it out.”
I nod, but I know I’m not going to change my mind. This is for Levi so that Elijah and I can better understand what could be causing his trauma. Yes, it’s stalker like, but I feel as though he will understand why we are doing this. Well, why I’m doing this, as I doubt Elijah wants any part of it.
Lexi walks in abruptly and hands Elijah two boxes. “Here you go!” he chirps. “How’s your human?”
“He’s…” Elijah trails off, looking uncertain. “He needs us.”
Lexi does not seem to need any other explanation; he just waits for Elijah to put down the boxes and then hugs my soulmate. He hugs me very briefly, as he knows too long of a hug will make Elijah’s demonic side burst out unexpectedly. Even though Lexi has no intent to sleep with me (without Elijah’s involvement, that is) Elijah’s demon side doesn’t know that.
It’s part of being the sin of Envy, I suppose, but I know with Levi it will be extremely different because that little human is meant to be with us. Speaking of, Levi emerges a few minutes later, wearing one of my pajama shirts and a pair of Elijah’s pajama shorts.
He looks adorable.
“Here, sit down,” Elijah encourages, nodding to the bed. “Greyson, give me a hand.”
Elijah bought a weighted blanket, it seems, and he and I put the duvet cover over it to keep it clean. He keeps instructing Levi to sit down when our human tries to get up and help us. Once we have set the weighted blanket up, Elijah hands Levi the fuzzy socks and then hands him a couple of sleeping pills.
Levi takes them with a glass of water that Elijah had ready on the nightstand and then Elijah helps to tuck him in. Watching the pair touches something inside of me; they’re so tender with each other and I want nothing more than to make them both mine at the same time.
They’re my soulmates and I know it won’t be long before I have completely fallen in love with Levi in the same way I am with Elijah.
“Just relax,” Elijah coos, laying down beside Levi and smiling at him. “You need to sleep and we’ll both be here when you wake up.”
Levi smiles softly. “Okay,” he whispers, closing his eyes.
Elijah and I sit in silence until we are sure that Levi is asleep. As soon as I’m sure he isn’t going to wake up, I leave Elijah to lay with him. Elijah is so enamored with Levi that he doesn’t question me leaving, not that he ever really questions me anyway. We have a very trusting relationship and we are almost always attached at the hip, but we can’t always be together.
I get to the kitchen and Gale is cleaning up her bowls and ingredients while Lexi is sitting on the counter, scrolling through his phone. It’s only eleven, so Paxton won’t be back with Kayden for a bit. Elijah’s words keep circulating in my mind, as do Paxton’s. They both think this little background check is a bad idea, but can they not see it’s for his well being?
Me: I’m going to go speak with Simon. I’ll be back in a couple of hours, is that alright?
E: Is something wrong?
Me: No, nothing is wrong, I just need to talk to him :) If you want me here, I can stay
E: We’ll be fine :)) go rant to simon about your stalking issue <3
I scowl and grab my car keys.
Simon’s office is only a thirty minute drive from the mansion, and since the morning rush is long gone, I have no issues getting to the office in a timely manner. He bought a big building for his company, and with him being the sin of Sloth, he basically pays humans to do all of the work.
When Kayden started as his personal assistant, the poor boy was so annoyed that Simon would watch movies all day while Kayden ran all of his errands. That came before a certain vampire decided to try to kidnap Kayden and threw him into the whole world of the supernatural.
“Do you have an appointment, sir?” she asks me as I head for the elevator.
“No,” I say dryly.
“Sir, only the CEO-”
I step into the elevator and press the number thirty, as that’s the top floor where Simon keeps his office. It also has a rooftop garden that is directly accessed from a stairwell in his office. The garden was put together by Kayden, and I know he and Simon sometimes come into the city to watch the city lights at night. Well, and to fuck on the roof, but no one is judging.
“Tell your front desk lady that I don’t need an appointment,” I say, inviting myself into the office and sitting down on the other side of the desk, facing my friend.
Simon raises an eyebrow. “I don’t like people in my elevator,” he responds, leaning back in his chair with a deep sigh. “I need to get, like, a code set up or something so you can’t get into it.”
“Would you give Kayden the code?”
“If he’s sweet to me,” Simon teases, even though we both know he’s head over heels for his soulmate. “Now, why are you here?”
I sigh, leaning back dramatically in my seat. “I asked Paxton to run a background check on Levi, just to see where he’s from and just details so that I can try to understand why he has so much trauma and what put him in his negative state of mind. Do you think that it’s weird or too stalker-ish?”
“Greyson, I literally stalked Kayden the first day we met, carried him to his apartment, and then left him a note that was way more stalker-like than it needed to be. I am not the right person to ask about this.”
“But he still fell for you!”
Simon scoffs. “Because I had to basically undo everything wrong that I had done by means of dates, apologizing over and over, and he still brings it up. Also, I saved him from being kidnapped by a vampire, so that does form a good impression.”
“So… you think it’s a bad idea?”
“Oh, I think it’s a fine idea, I’m just saying that asking me is stupid because I stalked my own soulmate, so obviously I’m going to agree with you.”
Alastor, help me.
Similar to how Elijah and Lexi are close, Simon and I are really close and we often hang out when we aren’t with our soulmates and we just connect as really close friends. However, he’s keen on supporting me even when I come up with stupid plans. I know it’s dumb, but I need to know what is going on with Levi.
“You are useless to me sometimes.”
“Yeah, I guessed you would say something along those lines.” Simon shrugs and then his phone rings, so of course he immediately ignores me. “Hi, angel! How was your test?!”
“I’ll take that as my cue,” I comment, smirking at my friend.
Simon scoffs. “No, baby, I was scoffing at Greyson. He came to the office to bother me. Give me one second and then tell me all about it, okay?” he says, pulling away from the phone. “Just do it, but don’t bring Elijah into it so Levi only gets pissed at you. Elijah would probably deteriorate if Levi got pissed at him the way he did yesterday.”
“Thanks,” I say, putting my hand on the door knob. “I’ll see you later.”
Simon waves before going back to his conversation, his eyes full of love as he listens to Kayden talk.
