"You are weak. You are powerless. You caused her death and you will cause your own. Don't die a pointless death. You must live for the both of us. The only way you can live is with my power. Take my power. Become stronger."
…
The two Halves, Jesse and Elijah returned to the camp Elijah had made. Although his eyes were still red from the tears, Jesse had calmed down a bit. Elijah grabbed his and Jesse's bags while Jesse went for his knife. Elijah noticed and smacked the knife out of his hand.
"What did you do that for?" asked Jesse as he tried to pick the knife up again.
"Don't use a weapon like that," exclaimed Elijah as he kicked the knife away, "Relying on weapons like that knife will only restrain your powers."
Jesse dropped his head and sighed, "You could've just said that."
"Let's just get going, we've been here for too long already," explained Elijah in caution as he handed Jesse his bag, "Half a week is a long time."
"Well then. Where exactly are we going?" asked Jesse as the two began moving.
"You wanted to get revenge didn't you?" stated Elijah as the two left the camp again, "You could never get revenge if you can barely use your power."
Jesse was startled as he exclaimed, "But we don't have time to do all that!"
"The people who attacked your mom were from the army," explained Elijah, "Everyone from the army falls under the command of one of the nine Generals. I'm not sure who the ones who killed your mom belonged to, but it's safe to say, you won't stand a chance against them right now."
"So what then?" asked Jesse.
Elijah smiled as he uttered, "You have got to get strong." Elijah then began running at a pace that average humans could not match. "Let's go!!!"
Desperately trying to catch up to Elijah, Jesse paid no attention to where he was going. Finally losing sight of Elijah, Jesse stopped running and fell back, out of breath. He looked around to see nothing but forest all around him. As he caught his breath, he closed his eyes and tried to focus on something. He wasn't entirely sure what it was, but he felt something inside of him. He felt the power that he got from the Sentient side of him. Slowly, Jesse breathed in and out. As he did this, he began hearing his surroundings more and more clearly. The gusting of the wind, the squeaking of the tiny animals and the sound of leaves being stepped on. The sound of the leaves got louder and louder as something was creeping up to him. Realizing this, Jesse immediately jumped up to hide between the trees. Before he could however, he was met with a gentlemanly Sentient with long, gelled back white hair and a stylish mustache.
"It seems lady luck has struck me," stated the dapper man to himself, "The odds of finding the Half so soon is just incredible."
Noticing the crystal on the man, Jesse held his guard, still trying to control his breathing. "Who are you?" he asked.
"Why, I am Mortimer Eustis Folke, young lad. And you must be the impeccable K1," explained the white haired gentleman as he kneeled to show respect.
Jesse noticed he felt a bit lighter and slowly tried to move away as the dapper Folke was speaking. He took one step back without the Sentient noticing.
"That is quite the necklace you have there sir K1," complimented Mr Folke when he noticed the necklace made from the Sentient Crystal. Mr Folke began to explain, "So you are as powerful as everyone said if you were able to kill a Sentient, but I'm sure you will find that I am much stronger than your average Sentient, Mr Half."
Jesse took another step back when Mr Folke stood up and jumped down to the ground slamming the heel of his foot into Jesse's shoulder. Did it break? Jesse quickly jumped back as he grabbed his shoulder reactively, but aside from a tiny sting, it did not feel nearly as painful as it should have. Jesse's heart was racing nonetheless. What should Jesse do? This was his chance, he needed to get stronger, he needed to find a way to fight Sentients on even ground. The powerful Mr Folke stood up from the dust he had created from his attack with his white glowing eyes and Sentient Crystal illuminated threw the smoke and dust. Jesse trembled as he took another step back. Should he have fought against that Sentient or should he have ran? Would he even survive if he fled?
Mr Folke laughed as he said, "Maybe I overestimated you, Mr K1. No matter what you do, you can't get away from me so you have two options available to you. You can either return to Windsor with me, or you can be slain right now."
Elijah appeared from the tree tops when he said, "How about the third option?" The Half smirked and dropped down to the ground between Jesse and the Sentient, Mr Folke.
Mr Folke's Sentient Crystal began glowing and he wondered, "Two Halves? I was not aware that multiple of you escaped. Regardless, I shall complete my duty as instructed. I suppose you both will have to accompany me to Windsor now."
Mr Folke jumped towards Elijah with blazing speed as his fist got engulfed in a white aura, but Elijah's eyes began to glow as he guarded the attack and yelled out to Jesse, "Jesse, run!"
"No! Let me help!" exclaimed Jesse, adamant on helping his comrade, if he could. Elijah quickly jumped back as Mr Folke attacked with yet another hulking attack.
"If you help, you will die! It's better if you run now!" explained Elijah trying to get his friend to leave, "If you die now, who will avenge your mom?"
Jesse begrudgingly sighed and turned around to run as fast as his lightened body could carry him while, but Mr Folke easily jumped infront of Jesse, obscuring his path. Mr Folke said to him while kicking Jesse in the back, "I'm afraid I can't let either of you escape now that I have you in my grasp."
Elijah Jumped behind Mr Folke to punch the back of his head, but the Old General turned around and blocked his attack. Elijah yelled out to Jesse, "Don't stop, just go! Go!"
Mr Folke pushed Elijah back with his block as he said, "I already told you I won't let that happen! Young Man!"
Jesse quickly tried to get back up as he felt the stinging in his body quickly dissapear. Mr Folke tried to turn around to attack Jesse again, but found that his legs were frozen in place. the grass that he was standing on had overgrown and wrapped around his feet. Mr Folke sighed as he turned around back to face Elijah. It was Eliajh that had caused that. He prevented Folke from following Jesse. The old Sentient sighed as he said, "You really aren't letting this old man have his way are you. Very well, I will recollect your friend after I defeat you."
Folke clenched his fist when a white aura surrounded it and he punched Elijah, knocking him back. Elijah grunted, trying to hold in the pain when a tree flew behind him. He used it to push himself back into the ground. As Elijah pushed himself off of the tree, he went flying into Folke as he propped his leg to kick the Sentient's face. Mr Folke noticed Elijah's attack and moved out of the way, but was hit by a rock from behind knocking him off balance. Elijah pulled another tree towards him to land on and quickly change his position as he swung his leg into the back of the Sentient's head. He fell backwards.
The white haired man jerked himself back up as he said, "I apologize young man. After finding how underwhelming your friend was, I assumed you would be at about the same strength as him. However your environmental manipulation cannot be underestimated."
Elijah was relieved that Jesse successfully escaped and he decided to escape himself. He jumped up to the treetops, but Folke grabbed his ankle and pulled him back down. Folke clenched his fist again and pulled Elijah into his punch. Elijah was flung into the air. A white aura engulfed Folke as he jumped into the air and beat Elijah back down. Moments before impact with the ground, Elijah made the grass below him grow and cushion his fall. He quickly rolled out of the way to avoid being crushed by Folke. The Sentient hit the ground on his feet in a crouching position.
He slowly stood up as he said, "Although you are strong, you cannot compare to my power, but I am still grateful to be given this chance to have a bout against you. An old man like will glady take on any task regardless of the object or opponent, but I am ever curious as to how you were able to avoid the grips of the Military for so long."
Elijah ignored the white haired man and muttered to himself, "Just a little bit more, ok?"
After he said that, the ground shook which surprised the powerful Folke. The trees around the two broke apart and became spear-like creations. These wooden spears surrounded the old man as he chuckled.
"I see. This must be how you avoided them," he said as the spears all attacked him at Elijah's command.
Elijah left the impaled Folke as he said to himself, "I mustn't lose myself… not now."
As Jesse escaped from the ensuing battle between Mr Folke and Elijah, he realized how correct Elijah's statement had been. He was basically useless, he would've died if he hadn't escaped. He heard the sounds of destruction behind him get softer and softer as he moved further and further away. He did not realize how far he ran until the sounds behind him were almost completely gone. What was even more startling was that he was barely tired. Was this the type of power Sentients had all this time? They barely feel pain and have a superhuman level of stamina apparently. That was probably what Elijah and the other Sentient felt all the time. He looked back at where the two were fighting and was hit with guilt of leaving Elijah to fight the Sentient himself. He was tempted to return to help his new ally fight the Sentient, but he decided to trust in what Elijah had told him. He knew he wouldn't be of any use if he returned and would only get in the way. He remembered what he had done at Elijah's camp and what he had done during that time with the Humans. That explosion of power that even chased two Sentients away. He knew that he could help if he could somehow control that explosive power he possessed.
Jesse had stopped running and decided to walk instead since he figured that he was far enough away from Mr. Folke and Elijah. He kept on looking back waiting to see Elijah show up, but was always disappointed at the results. While he was walking, he tried to focus on his breathing again. He wasn't sure where to go as this area was completely unknown to him. He chose to continue going straight until he found a river. As he was strolling, he heard footsteps once again. Panicked, he hid between the large foliage. His nerves were soon relieved when he saw that the footsteps belonged to Elijah. After a huge sigh of relief, Jesse came out of his hiding spot as he greeted the fellow Half.
Elijah ignored his greeting and coldly said, "Let's go. We've got a lot of distance to travel."
Jesse decided not to question his coldness or what happened in the fight. He was simply happy to see Elijah returned. He did however decide to ask, "Elijah, could you help me create those explosions I made from before?"
Elijah glared at Jesse with distain in his eyes as he replied, "Why should I help someone as weak and pathetic as you? Just be quiet and follow me, we have to get going now."
Though Jesse was hurt, he decided not to challenge Elijah since he protected the young fool from death and agreed to help him get revenge. Jesse also decided for the two to just travel in silence even though he still had countless questions. The rest of the day went by in silence and so did that night. They both went to sleep in silence with not even a single word spoken. Elijah woke up before Jesse, he made food for them both and went to find an empty field for him and Jesse. Elijah had not returned when Jesse woke up. Jesse saw the food that Elijah made. He saw two bowls and one was empty, so he assumed the other bowl was for him. While he was eating, Elijah returned.
"Oh, you're finally awake," Elijah enthusiastically said, "Let's go. We've got stuff to do!"
Jesse nodded and ate the final spoon of food and said, "Alright. Let's go!"
Jesse placed his bowl on Elijah's bowl and got up. Elijah then began running as fast as before with Jesse barely keeping up with him. The two finally made it to an open field where he and Jesse stood across from each other.
"Jesse! You must really focus on what I'm about to say right now," ordered Elijah, "Unlike the Sentients, we don't have a Sentient Crystals like they have. Those Crystals are essential in how they use their power. They focus their energy from there. Since we don't have a crystal, we need something else to focus our energy from." Jesse nodded understanding the line of thought and Elijah continued, "If Sentients have something we don't have, do we have something they don't have?"
Jesse was unsure, but tried to answer, "Something Sentients don't have? What exactly is that?"
Elijah pointed towards Jesse's heart as he said, "We've got Humanity! That is an important piece to all of it."
Jesse was lost for words but simply said, "Ok…"
Elijah walked a bit further away and asked, "When you used your power before, what did you feel at that moment?"
Jesse stroked his chin when he thought back and said, "I guess I felt sadness because I heard my mom died and... anger because of what happened."
"That makes sense since our power is heavily effected by strong emotions," explained Elijah, seemingly more serious than earlier that day, "Just to try it out. Think of something that would make you angry."
Jesse closed his eyes and his lungs filled with air. He tried to think back at something that would make him angry. He thought of his mother's death again and the Sentients that destroyed the group of Humans he was with. Jesse's breath became more stuttered while Elijah was carefully watching him.
"Try not to let your emotions explode like before," explained Elijah, "Control those emotions you are feeling now."
A short moment had passed after Elijah told Jesse to control his emotions. Elijah, more relieved, began speaking when an explosion was created around Jesse. Though it wasn't as large or powerful, the surprise knocked Elijah back. Jesse screamed and fell to his knees. Elijah quickly got back up and ran over to Jesse.
"It's fine. I didn't get this for months," encouraged Elijah, "Just calm down and don't worry too much about it."
Jesse sat on the ground when he said, "Months? We can't wait months."
"Well, when I had to learn, I had no reason to use my power and I didn't really have anyone to help me," explained Elijah, "You have me and a goal you want to reach. You are sure to do way better than me."
Elijah helped Jesse up as the two tried again. And again. And again. Still to no avail.
As the moon started rising, Elijah said, "I think we should get going. How about we practice in the morning and move at night?"
"Alright," agreed Jesse, "But where are we going?"
Elijah looked to the ground and sighed, "We are going to the place that I called home... if I could call it that."
