I didn’t want much in my life. All I wanted was to have a way to feed myself, not to get bothered for being a half-elf, and not have to deal with anything too difficult.
I left my hometown at some point and ended up in Azmar at another point. Azmar was the town run by the adventurer’s guild that surrounded the tower. Which stood out in the landscape of the world by seeming to never have a top. It was placed in the center of the main continent. And each of the races were separated into their own countries by mountain ranges.
It was a nice town, there was a large variety of races, not a lot of elves that I’d need to avoid, and nothing ever big happened. I found myself a nice small guild to work with and we helped deal with low-level dungeons that would appear in and around Azmar.
Dungeons were thought to be the stages where adventurers could prepare themselves to then challenge the tower. There were two types, one with monsters and one with resources. The difficulty never went above C rank.
The ranks were decided by the Adventurer’s Guild. They had magical tools that could measure the difficulty of a dungeon and the skill level of an adventurer. I was an E-class adventurer. The lowest on the ranking, my party members were all also E rank as far as I knew, but I was the weakest of us. Sure, I’m a half-elf but I’m a self-taught adventurer and don’t have a lot of experience.
Anyway, rankings are important. Your level determines which dungeons you can be in. So, our party, and our entire guild only dealt with E-ranked dungeons. We had never once been in a situation that was a serious danger to all of us as a group. It was a nice life, but it didn’t last forever.
I could still feel the throbbing, searing pain where his blade slashed off my limbs. It was almost all I could focus on, the pain and the lightheadedness from blood loss.
I just stared up at the sky watching the clouds slowly move across it.
Could I even call it the sky?
The word dungeon would imply an enclosed space, so would what I was looking at be the ceiling then?
But ceilings can be touched at a certain point and this one really felt like the sky. The clouds were soft and fluffy like the outside world. The light slowly faded as the sun was setting. The stars slowly became visible. I wasn’t sure if it was happening quickly or if I had just watched it for a while. I opted for quickly, I mean I was bleeding out how could it have been a while?
It was quite a nice view, all things considered.
I had a decent life I'd thought, met some good people, and had some not-too-hard adventures. Though this one definitely strayed from the average dungeon raid.
What a strange turn of events and this morning started like normal too.
Ahhhhh the pain was almost gone at this point, maybe that means I’d be gone soon.
I slowly closed my eyes...
It’s nice to know it wasn’t as painful as I thought it’d be.
…
…
…
…
…
I heard a yell, then a garbled scream.
Damnit! I thought I was going to have such a peaceful end to it all.
I heard an excited voice but I couldn’t seem to understand what was being said.
There was a break in the noise, then I thought I heard footsteps around me.
Fucking hell! How long was it going to take for me to die?!
