Blair started the drive back to college, so they’d be on time for there class that they all shared. She could’ve offered to drive Ava to, but she thought it better to give the two of them some space knowing their personalities. Blair wanted them to be on better terms with each other but forcing something to fast would just lead to a worse situation. She felt bad for hiding that Olivia was now her girlfriend from Ava, but Blair didn’t know how she would react to the news.
They all go to the class at about the same time and sat down to wait till the professor started his lecture. It wasn’t really a hard class just a boring one. Technical Writing: a class devoted on the ins and outs of how to apply appropriate grammar and its usage for several different forms of writing. It was a very useful class and one that held practicality in the real world. No doubt Ava’s parents had signed her up for this class and Olivia was a conundrum so she should have to ask later. Blair thought it was nerve wracking being here at this particular class. She was sat right in the middle of Ava and Olivia both of them on either side. Blair was trying hard to focus on this specific lecture about the writing process. That was until she felt a tug on her hand underneath the desk.
“Wha-“Blair said confused then peeked under the desk while not trying to draw attention to themselves. It was Olivia’s hand entwined with hers and she had a massive shit eating grin on her face. Of course, she wasn’t focused on the lecture, but Blair didn’t really mind this sort of secret affection. Olivia made the mistake of making too much noise which garnered the attention of the professor.
“You have something you want to share with class Ms. Bryat?” the professor said with his brow raised.
Olivia was startled by her name being call and frantically responded in a half sarcastic tone toward the professor. “No sir. Sorry sir.” and the professor just rolled his eyes dramatically and went back to teaching the class.
“Idiot” Ava said annoyed with Olivia’s joking demeanor.
Olivia responded in kind by sticking up her middle finger. It seemed like these two would certainly need a while till they were on better terms. Blair sighed focusing back on the lecture while now holding Olivia’s hand. Before this Blair didn’t think she ever could love someone like this or that someone could love her. She was to immersed in her own anxiety and feeling like shit to even think about being in a relationship. A buzzing sound came from her pocket distracting her from her thoughts. It was Olivia, she looked over to her, but she just pointed down at the phone. Olivia asked if we could talk about going to the mall with some her friends this weekend. At the same time, she heard another notification and looked down again. This time it was Ava, asking her if she wanted to do something this weekend. Blair didn’t know what to do. Both of them are asking to hang out on the weekend and she’s only one person……unless? Two days and two people.
“Maybe that could work….” She mumbled under her breath.
Blair could spend time with Ava on Saturday and go out with Olivia on Sunday. She took up her phone responding to both with the plan she just thought up. They were both important to her, so she didn’t want to let them down. Blair wanted to change and part of changing is taking risks - whether they turn out to be good or bad - all that matters is that you take them.
First Blair would have to handle what to do with Ava on Saturday since she knows what she’s doing with Olivia on Sunday. What would they have done before? Or should they explore different things since they both might have changed in ways since high school that the other doesn’t know about. For Blair it was a little exciting knowing that she would be spending time with Ava again like she did in the past. Blair was ready to try again, and she was stronger than she was before. Olivia was by her side now and she felt like she belonged instead of being ostracized.
Blair and Ava met up at the dorms to get everything in order for Saturday. Ava was ecstatic that Blair had even said yes to her request. In a moment of courage Ava texted Blair to hang out while she was pacing in her room with her phone in hand. She didn’t know if it would work but she at least wanted to try.
Blair looked up at Ava and said, “Why don’t we do things we both like to do?”
“And what exactly do you like to do these days?” Ava said curiously.
Blair thought about saying something asinine but found herself wanting to open up to Ava. “I’m actually super into bubble tea.”
Ava blinked a couple of times “Bubble tea?”
“Yeah, its sort of my guilty pleasure. I know it doesn’t suit me, but I enjoy it.” Blair said with a smile on her face.
Ava liked this. She liked talking and spending time with Blair. She missed this. Never in a million years did she think there would be another opportunity or situation where her and Blair interacted normally again.
“Ok. As for me…. How about we go to an aquarium? I always loved sea life.
“Wait what? I didn’t know that…..”
Ava laughed softly “Yeah… I don’t know. I guess I thought it was embarrassing. High school me was pretty dumb.” ‘Ain’t that the truth’ Ava thought. High school her was so filled with anxiety, dread, and hormones that it made her head swim when she just thought back on it all. Wanting to be liked, the expectations of her family, school, and the hierarchal pressures all crashed down on her at the same time. Which ended up having her hurt the one person who didn’t deserve to be hurt.
“Let’s do that then. Go get some boba in the morning and then head to the aquarium after.”
“Sounds like a plan” Ava hummed in agreement.
Just like that they had what they wanted to do for there day out. It was nothing to special or to grand. It was something that two friends who wanted to spend time together would do.
