As it was getting brighter, more and more people started to get outside. All of them were faceless…
On the way to school, Kaeso stopped at the cafeteria. He passed by the self-ordering devices, where all the customers were lining up, and got to the empty desk in the middle. There was a ring meant to call for the human worker. Lately, Kaeso has had to frequently change the place he initially tried to visit because traditional ordering was no longer provided. This time he was lucky.
“If your number is not showing on the screen, please wait. Probably there are too many orders”. The voice came from the back room where they were prepared.
Kaeso rang again.
"You will get your order soon. Just wait a few minutes".
Kaeso rang one more time.
“What do you not understand?” The worker got out of the backroom and handed one of the prepared orders to the drone, which delivers them to clients.
“Everything is clear, but that is not why I was calling for you. One big Americano, please”.
The worker looked at Kaeso in disbelief. Notifications of new orders were constantly coming from the backroom.
“I can make an order here, right?”
“Yeah, you can, but wouldn't it be less troublesome using the self-ordering device?”
"I don't mind it."
"Maybe you don't..."
One of the drones came to the worker with the announcement: "Please come back to your workplace."
“Firstly, I need to deal with a traditional order.”
“I cannot find it on the list of your duties. Penalty points will be assigned to your account.” Like an irritating fly, the drone was flying around the worker. Carried away by emotions, he suddenly raised his hand, aiming for the robot. However, at the very last moment, the man restrained himself.
“It is not my fault that you are wrongly programmed,” he slowly lowered his hand.
“Assaulting coworkers is forbidden, penalty…”
“Yeah, I know. Penalty points will be assigned to my account,” mimicking the drone, the worker gave it another order he brought from the back room. “Move your ass back to work.”
After creating an order for Kaeso, the employee had a little problem printing out the bill, but everything was done after a couple of minutes. The last thing was to give it a number.
“Umm… This order is not in the system, so I can’t give you a number.”
“Then draw a star on it.”
“A star?”
“Yes.”
The worker had no time for discussions, so he just started looking around, searching for something to write with.
“Here,” Kaeso gave him a pen.
“Thanks… I will call you out soon.”
When Kaeso waited for the coffee, he sat in the corner of the cafeteria and started drawing. With so many clients in the building, he had plenty of time before getting the order. In the center of the page, he sketched a worker who just served him, making the Dio's gravity-defying Wryy Pose. The Men-yoroi mask was covering his whole face. Kaeso also designed his Stand made of drones operating in the cafeteria.
“The star!”
Kaeso stopped drawing and went to pick up the order.
“It will be 4,30.”
“Keep the change.” Kaeso gave him the 50-dollar bill.
“What? But it…”
“If I were you, I would not restrain myself and break them into pieces,” smiling, he took the coffee and walked towards the exit.
“Hey! Wait!”
It was too late. Kaeso had left.
