The Ivory Mirror

Back To Those Days [1]

Back To Those Days [1]

Jan 11, 2023

Upon opening her eyes, Su Yi squinted them in confusion, as grogginess overtook her and she tried hard to figure out what had happened to her. It took a while for her to remember that the system had sent her here, and she waited for the information to be sent over so she could figure out what to do next.

She lay there for a while, too afraid to move, so she didn't alert anyone who might be in the house. The last thing she needed was a tremendous commotion to happen before she could make sense of things. But her worries were unfounded as she heard someone sniffling next to her. Then she felt someone clinging onto her body, and the other person was trembling from head to foot - their tears soaking her shirt. Awkwardly, she wiggled her body, showing that the other person was making her uncomfortable, and making them realise that her body was still in pain.

The person immediately released her and started dabbing at their swollen eyes. Now that Su Yi could get a good look at them, she was shocked to see that the woman seated beside the bed closely resembled herself. Were they related? How was this possible? This was a world different from her original world... so how could there be a person here that looks like her? Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and she decided that the best thing would be to swallow down the questions that she had and wait to see what the situation was at the moment.

"Yi," the woman cried, "do you know how worried we were? When we heard about your accident at school, we thought the worst had happened and were afraid you would never wake up." The woman grabbed her hand and gentled her voice. "I'm so glad that you woke up. It's only been a few days, so get some more rest, alright?"

Su Yi could do nothing but nod her head in response. Then her blood ran cold when she heard the woman's mumbled words. "Really, who told you to provoke the one person you shouldn't. Causing problems for others cause you didn't keep your mouth shut."

Blinking stupidly, Su Yi went to open her mouth to refute but was interrupted by the door slamming open. A young man angrily entered the room and grabbed the woman's arm, forcing her to her feet.

The woman was shocked at his sudden entrance, and her pallor turned grey. Damn, even this guy was here? How had he heard what she said? Envy clawed at her chest as she turned stern eyes towards the injured girl on the bed.

Why did this bitch always have these kinds of people around her? She didn't deserve any of it. She was lucky the fall hadn't killed her, but there was no guarantee that the next time such an accident occurred, her life would be saved.

Wriggling out of his grasp, the woman made to leave the room, however; she was too slow, and the man captured her arm once again. Anger coloured his expression, and he angrily spat, "where are you going? Apologise to Yi right now!"

He had only stepped out of the room for a moment to get some fresh air - it was uncertain how long it had been since he had left the room since her accident - and it had allowed a snake to slither her way into the room. If he had known that such a person would use this opportunity to sneak in and add insult to injury, he wouldn't have been so careless.

It was known to him what the girl's family was like, and in the past, he would've done everything to keep Su Yi away from their claws. Ones that were always itching to sink into her flesh and tear her apart. Next time, he would be more vigilant and keep her far away from them; unfortunately, he had to wait for her to get better first.

That was another thing he was guilty about... her accident. If he had stayed at school that day and hadn't gotten distracted by their ploy to make sure Su Yi was out of his sight, she wouldn't have been pushed down the stairs. It was mostly his fault for being so easily tricked.

"Jun." Su Yi breathed out the name and shocked not only the man but even herself. Even if some memories had been transferred to her once she had entered the world, there was something about him that was familiar. And as she looked at him more, the name seemed to fit him perfectly. "Let her go."

"But Yi, she..." Jun turned towards her, his inner turmoil halting for a moment. He gripped the woman's arm, causing a yelp to erupt from her mouth, but he didn't care. "Did you forget what she did? What she made them do? I can't let her go like this!"

Su Yi sighed and shakily got to her feet. Seeing her weak state, Jun hastily let the woman go and rushed forward to help her stand. "You've just woken up. Don't force yourself."

Ignoring the shock wave that had passed through her body at his touch, Su Yi leaned into him like it was the most natural thing in the world. Then she opened her mouth to say, "I remember, but my head hurts and seeing her is making it worse. Please send her away. I just want it to be me and you for now."

Seeing her pleading eyes, Jun swallowed the lump in his throat and gently pulled her closer to him. He had missed her warmth for a long time, and now that she was in his arms, he was reluctant to let go, in case she disappeared for real this time.

"Ok." He nodded his head and roughly shoved the woman out of the room, then slammed the door in her face. Truthfully, seeing her disgusted him and every time he was in her presence, the feeling only grew more prominent.

Before the accident, he had been careless, but now that Su Yi had woken up and was on the path to recovery, he vowed he would do his all to protect her. And he would never forgive the people who had hurt his Yi.
