As I set off for school I caught glimpse of Dylan sitting on the bench outside school, I wondered why he was there, as he wasn't the type of person that would arrive at school on time. As I was about to pass him when I remembered his homework that I was supposed to do. SHIT!
'Hey.' My voice was shaking as I approached, what was I going to say to get away with this now? As I tried to rack my brain to figure out what I could say to get out of the situation, I felt a warmness around my body.
'I'm sorry.' Dylan apologized. To be honest, I was surprised that he even knew that word. I looked at him closely.
'For what?'
'For bullying you, calling you names when I'm exactly the same as you.' The same as me? What exactly did he have that we both shared? Was it that we both go to the same school? Well of course... Was it...? OH MY GOD!!!
'You're gay?' My mind was full of excitement. So I wasn't the only student here that was gay, even if that student was my bully, I wasn't alone in this race.
'Yes. And I have a boyfriend.'
'Why hadn't you told anyone?'
'I guess I just didn't want to be known as different or want to be bullied myself. When I found out that you were gay I was happy, because I could finally reach out to someone that was the exact same as me. But, I guess it didn't work out so I'm sorry. For everything.'
'It's fine, as long as it doesn't happen again. Friends?'
'Friends.' WOW! I'm now friends with someone I thought that I would hate forever. I guess there are some happy endings to our lives, but they just all come in the most unwanted and spectacular ways.
