Micah took a stroll outside the palace in spite of the terrible rain. He had stormed out of his father’s chamber in a hurry, but now that he was outside, he wasn’t sure about what he wanted to do.
He thought about approaching Elizah about this, but it was possible she didn’t know at all. The only other person who could possibly know would be Levi, who-
“Why are you out here in the rain, Micah? You’ll fall sick,” a voice interrupted and Micah looked up, stunned. Levi had arrived in front of him sopping wet and looking exhausted.
“Levi? Weren’t you supposed to return a few days ago?” Micah looked up and Levi sighed.
“Had a few other things to finish on the way so I took a while,” Levi said and they shook their head.
“I was actually about to come looking for you. If you aren’t tired, can we talk?” Micah asked and Levi nodded, noticing the uncertainty in Micah’s gaze.
“Sure, but maybe at my cottage? I doubt you want to get soaked further,” Levi said and beckoned Micah onto their horse, and the duo rode towards Levi’s cottage at the edge of the forest.
“May I ask what you wanted to talk to me about? I assume that this a personal matter,” Levi said as they dismounted near a small cottage and Levi tied the horse to the stump nearby. Micah was silent, but to Levi his silence made the answer clear.
Levi opened the door and ushered Micah in, and followed soon after. They set down their supplies and weapons on the rug on the ground. They picked up a towel from the nearby table, and tossed it over to Micah.
“Dry off your hair. You’ll get sick,” Levi took a similar towel and dried their own hair after pulling their hair out of the neat ribbon it was in.
Micah took the towel to his head and in the meanwhile Levi sat down at the sofa.
“So what did you want to talk about?” Levi asked again and Micah sighed.
“Can you promise to tell me the truth?” Micah asked and Levi raised a brow.
“That makes me wonder what you want to hear,” Levi said and a small smile crept up their face.
“I heard some things from my mother that I am not actually her son, and I’m not too sure whether to believe her. She said something about you knowing about this so here I am,” Micah looked up with hope in his eyes, and Levi was surprised.
“I’m surprised she finally told you. Lend me your hand,” Levi outstretched their hand and Micah gave them a look. Micah gave Levi his hand and suddenly he felt his world spinning.
Glimpses of various scenes passed by him. In one there was an entire city of fire, in another there was chaos in the palace. He heard voices call out to him, and a young girl with gold hair was smiling at him.
Just as suddenly as it started the spinning stopped. Micah blinked a few times, and Levi gave him a concerned glance.
“I hope you aren’t too disoriented in any way,” Levi walked over to him and handed him a glass of water. Micah’s hands were shaking so much that the glass almost fell so Levi took it back.
“What… was that?” Micah asked when his head stopped spinning.
“Those were all the memories that your mother had asked me to suppress more than thirty whole years ago. They are all your memories from your birth till Elizah was born. But it’s going to be a bit hard to understand by yourself, so if you want I can explain as much as I can,” Levi said and they tied up their hair again.
“Yes, please explain,” Micah said. Levi nodded and suddenly jumped out of their seat to head to the kitchen while Micah just was left confused.
They returned within a moment with an old notebook in their hands and flipped through it. “Ah yes. This was when this happened,” Levi said and they settled down on the chair again.
“Sorry I had to go find my diary from the time. When you’ve lived as long as I have, it's hard to remember how long ago things happened,” Levi said, “About 40 years ago your father and I were part of the army of a kingdom named Draconis, which I assume you know about.”
Micah nodded. Draconis was an empire that had crumbled a very long time ago and now Draconis was under the Larkspear kingdom territories. When Micah and Elizah had been sent out to make amends with some territories they had crossed multiple large rock towers with dragon crests painted over them.
“At the time, Draconis was engaged in a three way war with two other kingdoms: Xiolis and the Larkspear kingdom. The war became so intense that Xiolis and Draconis began to go for blood. Xiolis troops took hostages from a town in Draconis. In retaliation, Draconis burnt down a whole town in Xiolis,” Levi’s eyes closed.
Micah’s eyes were wide. “A whole town?” Micah asked Levi again. Levi nodded.
“That town was where your father found you,” Levi said with nostalgia in their gaze, “We weren’t part of the troops dispatched to burn the town, but we were in the area for other reasons. When we arrived on the scene you were there among the burning wreckage and Liran dove in to get you out.”
Micah remained silent. He was taking time to process everything Levi said. So he had been saved by Liran and later raised by him and Roxanne.
“So there’s no one left of my family from Xiolis? Or was that what my father meant when he wanted to talk to me about Xiolis?” Micah asked Levi and Levi almost jumped out of their seat in shock.
“Wait, Liran wanted to speak to you about Xiolis? When?” Levi was slightly tense.
“He arrived earlier today, and wanted to talk to my sister about the decision on the amulets,” Micah said and Levi’s eyes only widened and they swore loudly.
“He isn’t supposed to be here. Why is he even here?” Levi began to pace, they seemed frustrated.
“Is there something wrong about him being here?” Micah asked Levi, and they shook their head.
“I’m just wondering why he arrived all of a sudden. Anyway, do you want to hear anything else?” Levi said and they looked back at Micah.
“Um, just a few things. Do you know why he left in the first place?” Micah asked and Levi’s eyes shifted around the room.
“That may be hard to explain. Hm, maybe another time would be better for that. There are a lot of different things to explain in that process and I doubt you would actually believe most of this. There is a lot you still don’t know and I can’t sit and explain all of it now,” Levi said and sighed, “Anything else?”
“This is probably the last thing for now, but do you know a gold haired girl who I could have met when I was younger?” Micah asked and Levi laughed.
“Of course I know her. She is my daughter, she looked after you a lot when you were younger,” Levi was smiling widely, Micah looked surprised.
“You have a daughter? Was that why you arrived late from your trip?” Micah asked with interest.
“Yes, you’re absolutely right. I went to visit her. She lives near the area I had gone to do work with,” Levi said with a smile. Micah noticed their form flicker and he realised they were probably exhausted.
“I’m so sorry I’ve been talking for so long. You must be exhausted. I’ll come see you another time,” Micah said as he was about to leave.
“No, that’s not a big deal. Come see me again later though, I may be able to tell you more,” Levi said while they struggled to keep their form up.
Micah nodded and walked out the door and closed it behind him. Meanwhile Levi collapsed on the sofa and their form crumbled, revealing their true form and almost lost consciousness from how much power they had used just then.
“Liran, I hope you realise what is truly happening before you make another accusation,” Levi said softly and fell asleep right there on the chair, completely drained of all power.
