The Paladin's Path

Prologue END

Prologue END

Jan 10, 2023

Peter and Trystan are still discussing their plan when they look inside to check upon them. They see how Thorry and his siblings all are gathered around a wooden a table with their mother. All smiling and listening to their mothers lesson about history. She pretty much makes a perfomance out of It. She even conjures small images to help the younger siblings imagination. Trystan looks to Peter.

"Your wife is a mage?" He sounds and looks pretty amazed. Peter has a sullen look on his face when he responds.

"Yea she was. Her names Marie by the way.Back in my day Tyrael City wasnt the best day for the arcane gifted. Its still my biggest gripe with the city that I have. I can't imagine that It got better right?" Trystan shakes his head in response.

"There are rumours that the mage guild would be soon banned from the city. I am one of the people campaigning against It. We got one of their mages with us on this journey. Sadly I don't think what happened will easy the tensions" He sighs sadly. "I think we should give them some time before we tell them right?" They both nod at each other. They both continue looking at the scene and start listening to the lesson from.

Meanwhile in a dark corner of this world. Two person are sitting around a table with a crystal ball around It. Both are wearing a black cloak. In the same room there is a chimney fire going on. Giving the room a quite comfortable warmth. You can hear parts of the conversation of Trystan and Will's interrogation. One of them speaks with a raspy voice.

" Master should we intervene before they bring our scapegoat away?" The other person waits quite a bit before he answers his servant.
"No I think this could work better for us this way. They seemingly think another noble house wants to besmirch the good name of the Adler family. No I need to correct that. It's way better for us. Keep spying on them and give me a report once they reach Tyrael City. Also send your goons and raze that goblin cave. No survivors." The person stands up abruptly and leaves the room leaving the other person. He seems uneasy as he takes his hood off. A half elven male looks into the chimney fire. Brown hair and hazelnut eyes are what his face define. Next to his big burn scar on his throat.

" We could have used this chance to get rid of Commander Trystan" he angrily kicks the table. " Fine then I will do It without his permission."

Back on the farm. The hours went on. It's dusk now and the birds chittering is now replaced with the occasionally sound of owl screeching. The retinue of Trystan arrived at the farm and they took Will into one of their wagons for safekeeping. The family gathered outside. Most of them already shed quite a few tears. Peter didn't cry but he took a few hits from his son when he told him that he needs to leave them. They bruised quite a bit. Thorry calmed down after his mother comforted him. She told him that he can visit at any time If he wants and they would visit him next year on his birthday.  His siblings gathered what they could and gave him farewell gifts. From his brother Alex he got his favourite wooder sword that he got as a present from his last birthday. The girls each gave them a thin braided wristband that they worked on. Originally they wanted to give them to their mother as a thank you. The bands are colourful they used many coloured strings to make them. They start hugging each other again before Thorry leaves their grasp and slowly walks towards the dragonkin Trystan. Actually they are only leaving tomorrow but Thorry will stay the night with them because they will start moving early in the morning.

Trystan gathered his retinue around the camp fire. He told them what happened and that they would head back to Tyrael City in the morning. The selection of the city guard was canceled and would only happen after the goblins responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. Trystan also introduced their new member and his squire Thorry to the group. They are quite amazed that the boy from this morning that was almost dying after a fireball, would be joining them. After they realize that he called Thorry his new squire. They all came over to him and pat him on the back while looking apologetic. Durxel was the last one to do It. He whispered into Thorry's ear.

" I am sorry. His training will be hellish."

That was the beginning of my journey.
