Four days. Four days since Payton had left. Not one call or text and Kendall was getting impatient. She had been waiting by her phone begging Payton to just text an emoji. But nothing. Not a call to her secretary. Nothing. She hadn't seen the woman in four days and she was basically the woman's boss. Well, not really she just turned her work in with Kendall. They worked together and yes their job titles do technically mean Kendall is Payton's boss but when they started working together they agreed that they would have a professional relationship at work but Kendall didn't like to pull rank. Payton was her friend after all. Surprisingly Payton had turned in several projects without running into Kendall. How? Kendall didn't know, she would leave her office for one minute and she would come back with the project laying on her desk. Damn, that woman was a ninja. Fine, If she isn't going to make the first move then I will.
"Mrs. Marshall your boyfriend it on line one-"
"Tell him I'm busy. I'm going to Ms. Ives's office." Kendall smiles as she walks past her secretary.
"Halfway across the building? Why? She has no projects due. In fact, she's ahead on her work."
"Personal reasons, Ms. Grey." Mrs. Grey nodded with a smile.
"Payton Ives," Kendall yelled catching the attention of everyone in the room.
"Uh...Ma'am, I'm sorry but Ms. Ives has been working from home for the past four days." a timid worker ginger speaks up.
"Why wasn't I informed of this?" Kendall asks venom dripping from her words. Now we know how she's been avoiding me. She's been sending one of her friends to hand in her work.
"Uh.." the man mumbles confusedly.
"Nevermind, thank you." Kendall smiles before retreating back to her office stopping to tell Ms. Grey that she'll be taking the rest of the day off.
Payton groaned as she shut her laptop. This was the third migraine she's gotten. Her eyes aren't used to looking at a computer all day, she's usually a hands-on person but ever since the...incident she hasn't felt up to going in to work. So work from home it is. A sudden vibration from her phone caught her attention as she stood off the couch stretching before grabbing the device.
Todd (from work)
Hey, boss. Ms. Marshall was in the office asking for you.
Thought you should know. You're not getting fired right?
Thanks, Todd. I sure hope not.
Payton smiles at the text. A knock at her door brought her back to earth. Sighing as she walks to the door only for the sigh to catch in her throat as she opens the door to see Kendall standing there in work attire, clearly pissed. "The hell-" Kendall pushes past the taller woman cutting her off as she walks further into the apartment. "Hey-"
"Don't hey me. You can't just drop that big of a bomb on someone and not answer their calls or texts then not expect them to confront you the old-fashioned way." Kendall smiled smugly, that felt good.
“Yeah, asshole didn’t even pay his part of the bill”
“Didn’t you say he’s a doctor?”
“Yeah so. Jeez, Kendall control your pitbull.”
“Not her pitbull.”
“Sorry, what was that Payton?”
“I said I’m not her pitbull Nell.”
“Calm down Payton she’s just messing with you,” Payton growled calmly when Kendall rested her hand on her shoulder.
“See. Pitbull, no beast. That’s it your her beast and she’s your beauty.” Nell laughed, clapping in excitement. Payton rolled her eyes at that, yeah it was kind of true. But they weren’t dating Kendall wasn’t gay, Payton was but not Kendall there is no way Kendall could be gay. In all the years she and Payton had been friends, she had never seen Kendall without a guy wrapped around her finger. But that doesn’t mean it hadn’t crossed her mind. Her mother would always say she should find someone like Payton but it wasn’t until as of late that she actually took the joke as a serious option. Not that she couldn’t find a man like Payton, but what if she didn’t want ‘like’ but the actual thing? No no no, you're not supposed to think about your best friend like that Kendall.
For better or worse is complete for the foreseeable future.
