Shit. It was
worth a try.
I should have known that it would be difficult to avoid the party. Frustrated,
I rub my hands over my face. Why do I live in a fraternity again, despite my
blatant aversion to people in general?
Oh yes—cheap rent and lots of alcohol. And the proximity to the university.
Usually, everyone can do their thing, but the partys bring in money and new
contenders, that's why there are partys are so often. Most of the time I vanish into my room, but Aaron here, for whatever reason, has decided to get me out of here
from time to time. He has only been living here for 6 months, but if I think of
all the others in this house, then I know him best, probably. I can´t see why he´s so attached to me, though... I'm mostly in the
lab anyway.
Shrugging my shoulders, I get up and give up programming for tonight.
Annoyed, I open the door and lean into the door frame.
"What kind
of bet?" I ask dryly.
That guy has an unhealthy tendency to overdo it with the bets.
"That you play chess better than the guy with the big mouth down there!" Says Aaron with a grin. He smiles at me from below, while a few wild strands of hair from his carefully slicked redhead leave their formation and fall into his forehead. He quickly strokes them back with his hand.
"What did you bet on?" Aaron lowers his eyes and looks to the side. Oh no... I know that look.
"It doesn't matter, you'll pull it off anyway."
Suddenly, he's very shy, isn't he? I dread the thought of what he offered as a bet this time. A pile of money? His soul? Oh, please not his room key again, I can't stand another night where I hear strangers doing it through the wall while Aaron begs to sit on my sofa for the time being.
"Well, if you don't tell me, I won't do it." Shaking my head, I close half of the door as his hand holds the door at lightning speed.
"Wait!"
I take a deep breath in and out and arm myself.
"My motorcycle." He says meekly.
My eyes widen.
"What?!" The guy is not in his right mind! "Are you stupid, or what?!"
His expression looks pained. And a bit red spotty. An alcohol flag, which you can smell ten meters against the wind, comes towards me. At least he has the decency to look ashamed to the ground. Stunned, I stand in the doorway. These lawyer-only-children really think they can afford to do anything, or what?!
"Please, man... you are my only hope!" he finally begs. In addition, this puppy-look that he always puts on. I moan inwardly. What's wrong with these rich mother's sons, that they always pull off such shit?! Too much money and too little brain is really a shitty mixture.
"Please! You also have something good with me! I'll give you my bike whenever you need it!"
I exhale deeply for a long time and think about what I would prefer: my peace in my room tonight, or a howling Aaron in the same house for the next three months. Especially in the room next door.
"I'll buy you a crate of beer on top!" Aaron addsdesperately.
Well, on second thought, the lesser evil wins.
"If I do this now, it's the first and last time I'll save your ass with such a crazy bet, get it?!" I ask threateningly.
Aaron's eyes wide and he nods his head wildly like a toddler.
Annoyed, I get my phone and my key to lock the room. Otherwise I may find unpleasant surprise guests in my own bed when I come back.
