"We don't even know if I can have children anyway." He added looking away as he started walking. Harriet walked beside him, "But if you can you want one don't you?" Harriet questioned. "... Yes." Thomas confessed hesitantly, "Maybe I'll change my mind later." Harriet offered, "Harriet I don't want to force this." Thomas said standing at the crosswalk with her. Harriet looked at him, "Neither do I."
Thomas chuckled dryly as they crossed together, "At least we can agree on something." He half-heartedly joked, as they made it to the other side Harriet turned to Thomas completely and placed her free hand on his arm. "Thomas, do you think we're arguing?" She asked concerned, Thomas winced. "No, I... I just don't want anything to do that. We've just gotten together it feels like things should be... You know always easy." Thomas struggled to explain. Harriet frowned and turned pulling Thomas with her.
Thomas looked and saw that she did this because more people were crossing. Thomas felt a bit flustered, he forgot there were other people for a moment. Letting Harriet pull him through the crowd, he heard Harriet say, "I'm not mad though." "I know that," Thomas replied, he had seen Harriet mad.
"So you're just trying to be too perfect again?" Harriet pressed, Thomas winced feeling she had him dead to rights. "Yeah." he sighed, they finally arrived in front of the restaurant. "Thomas I want to hear what you have to say. If I wanted someone thoughtless and agreeable I would've gone after one of the omega interns." Harriet remarked, Thomas stared and then thought about the handful of interns who regularly flirted with Harriet. Thomas felt jealousy bubble in him and his jaw clenched.
"You can't fire them, Thomas." Harriet deadpanned, and Thomas froze in the middle of scheming. "I want to," he replied huffily. He heard Harriet chuckle and he looked over with a slight smile on his face. "It's fine if we don't always agree Thomas." Harriet spoke, "We're adults we can talk things through." Harriet stared at the restaurant. Thomas saw her eyes were actually on their reflections. Both of them were dressed in business formal wear, they really did look like a couple.
"It's also fine if we change our minds too. We're allowed to do that." Harriet said looking back at Thomas, Thomas smiled hearing this. "Yeah." He agreed softly. "But you're really stubborn." Thomas teased, Harriet paused in the middle of going to head for the restaurant. She looked at Thomas and gawked unbelievingly before laughing.
"I don't want to hear that coming from you." She said amused, Thomas grinned ear to ear and they both headed into the restaurant. As soon as Thomas stepped inside the hostess recognized him.
"Mister West!" She greeted happily, "We have your usual table available!" She said before looking at Harriet and then down at their hands. "Party for two?" She asked completely unphased, "Yes." Thomas replied feeling a little excited to say that.
The two of them ate together enjoying their time. It was pleasant and nice, the next few days seemed like a dream to Thomas. But Monday arrived much too soon and their leave had ended. Thomas sighed heavily stuck in his office unable to see Harriet. He tried to rack any excuse in his brain to see her but, he knew that it would only cause problems. After all, this was the first day they were back since the incident.
Thomas stretched and yawned deciding to head to the restroom. As he left his office he heard Chandler, one of the alpha men on his and Harriet's team mocking Harriet. His eyes snapped over seeing Harriet typing away at her cubical and Chandler leaning on it.
"So how high of a raise did you get?" He mocked, "Is this why he always put you on the same team as him?" He pressed every five seconds trying to get a rise out of Harriet. Thomas gritted his teeth just about to say something when his and Harriet's eyes met. Harriet got up and walked passed Chandler. "Thomas, here's that report." She said handing him a folder. "Also, there's an awful lot of flies in the office. Do you think we should get an exterminator?" Harriet asked loudly, Chandler seemed to understand the insult because he marched over.
"An awful lot of nerve calling me that-!" He started to say but Thomas's fierce glare silenced him. "Do you want me to send a report to HR?" He asked threateningly, "Wouldn't the source be biased?" Chandler grumbled, "Just drop it Chandler." Jack groaned, he sighed looking tired. "Shut up Jack! We all saw it! Those two are just acting like nothing happened!" He exclaimed motioning to Harriet and Thomas.
Thomas was about to speak but Harriet stepped in front of him. "I guess we're all still in middle school." Harriet deadpanned, Chandler paused looking at Harriet. He looked like, for a moment, satisfied that he finally got a rise out of her. "After all you're obsessed with what happened while everyone else has moved on." Harriet took a step towards him, "What happened was caused by my irresponsibility of coming to work close to my rut." Harriet pressed slowly backing Chandler away from Thomas with each step.
"Based on your smell I can tell you're close yourself." Harriet added narrowing her eyes, "The situation was accidental, Thomas and I have spoken about this. We've decided to keep our personal and work lives separate." Harriet spoke calmly and logically, "Something you're clearly unable to accomplish considering you're so frustrated because your girlfriend left you last Saturday." Harriet had backed Chandler against a cubical wall.
"How did you...?" Chandler spoke in a trembling voice, "You were complaining about women on your social media. Also, you were listening to sad break-up songs this morning as you went through your reports." Harriet narrowed her eyes. "Do try to be more responsible than me... Chandler." Harriet hissed lowly, "Don't come to work when your rut hits." Harriet leaned back and looked around at the small group staring.
"Are there any other issues?" She asked, they shook their heads, "Concerns? Questions?" She pressed, a hand raised from one of the interns. "Do you have a sister?" The young omega man asked. Harriet stared unbelievingly, "That was really hot." The intern laughed thoughtlessly.
"No," Harriet replied as frigidly as possible, Thomas could tell she wanted to laugh though. Thomas folded his arms and looked away wanting to look annoyed. It was very hard for both of them to keep up their normally stoic appearances outside after getting used to joking around with each other.
After work, Thomas and Harriet headed home, aside from the incident with Chandler things were surprisingly normal. Though Thomas did get a few passing comments from board members saying 'well it was only a matter of time.' He wondered if his feelings towards Harriet had been that obvious.
Regardless Harriet was annoyed, which meant that Thomas was annoyed. "Thomas I want to send my resignation letter in." Harriet declared for the second time, "Absolutely not." Thomas huffed stubbornly. He didn't want to go to work without Harriet there. Regardless of the incident, they were a good team and got a lot of things done together. Very few people could keep up with Thomas's standards in the office.
"You can't stop me." Harriet narrowed her eyes, "Yes but I can pout." Thomas replied shamelessly, he then let out an exaggerated sigh. Harriet's lips twitched and Thomas chuckled, "Thomas I'm trying to be serious. This has become disruptive in the office. It's only a matter of time before you or I snap and someone ends up in the hospital." Harriet observed.
Thomas parked his car in the parking garage and got out. Harriet followed after, "The last thing I would want is for the company to get sued because of me!" She exclaimed following behind him. Thomas had just about enough turned around and shouted, "Well I don't care if it does!" He exclaimed, Thomas and Harriet, froze staring at each other. "I don't... I don't want to go to work without you." Thomas said in a softer tone.
"Working with you makes it worth it." He added annoyed that he shouted, "If you're not there then I... I don't want to be there either." "Thomas." Harriet sighed, the two of them stood there. "Well, we just had our first fight," Thomas complained groaning, he pinched the bridge of his nose. "What kind of couple are we if we're fighting over liking working with each other?" Harriet replied humorously.
"You like working with me too?" Thomas asked looking at Harriet surprised, "Of course." Harriet said with a smile, "Then why do you want to quit?" Thomas asked exasperated. "Because you looked like you wanted to kill Chandler and I don't want my mate in prison." Harriet deadpanned. Thomas winced, "You've got me." He grumbled, he did want to kill that smug prick. Probably would be very easy to do it with Thomas's size regardless of the dynamic.
Harriet looked around and sighed, "Thomas, you know I love you. Because of that, I don't want to hold you back. I just thought it would be better if I found employment elsewhere." Harriet explained, "What kind of reference should I write?" Thomas asked sarcastically. Harriet laughed getting his joke, "Amazing in bed, hard worker." Harriet listed off a couple of traits making Thomas laugh.
"Yes she's a gentle lover, but proof remains to be seen." He added, "Well someone likes being played with roughly." Harriet said coyly. Thomas and Harriet sighed at the same time, "I don't want you to quit." Thomas said, "Do you think I want to? I like working with you, Thomas. We're a good team." Harriet replied, "I just don't want to-." Harriet started to say but Thomas cut her off, "Cause me trouble? Harriet if I'm remembering correctly I was the one who asked you to do it. I just don't see why you have to face the consequences." Thomas said annoyed.
"So that's what it is," Harriet said softly, Thomas groaned she could read him too well. "Thomas I should put in my two weeks," Harriet said stepping towards him, Thomas groaned louder. "I don't like it." He turned away to walk towards the elevator. "Then quit with me," Harriet said still standing where she was. Thomas paused and turned around facing her, "What?" He asked, Harriet had a deer in headlights look as if she had blurted this out without thinking.
"Quit with me. Let's start a business together." She said looking unsure, Thomas stared at Harriet. "It can be anything you want." She added as Thomas walked towards her. "Anything?" He asked, Harriet, nodded, Thomas's mind already swam with ideas. "I like working with you Thomas and you like working with me. Nothing says we have to stay at your family's company."
Thomas smiled, "You're right." He said feeling excited, "You're absolutely right!" He grabbed Harriet in a hug and spun her around. Harriet wrapped her arms around his neck and he held her in his arms supporting her under her backside. "Why should we stay there?" he said pressing his forehead against hers.
"We'll take over whatever industry we set our minds to." He said grinning, Harriet smirked Thomas was sure they had the same expression. They were excited, it was a new project to tackle together. "Well look at you two, aren't you cute." A female voice, although a bit slurred hatefully spat. Thomas looked over and saw Avery leaning on her driver.
Avery glared at Thomas, "Fuck you, you're supposed to be my friend! Be single and miserable like me!" She exclaimed, Thomas, rolled his eyes, "Ignore her." Thomas spoke as he sat Harriet down. Harriet leaned looking at Avery curiously, "I want Milo." Avery sobbed leaning on Ajax who remained stoic as ever. Thomas swore the beta man was disassociating at this very moment.
"Milo's whines about her too when he's drunk." Harriet remarked, Thomas's eyes widened, "You've been around Milo when he's drunk!" He exclaimed. "I didn't sleep with him, Thomas." Harriet rolled her eyes. "He's no fun to tease, so he's not my type." She added. Thomas pursed his lips looking away, "Besides shouldn't I be concerned you've been around her?" Harriet pressed as Ajax led Avery to the elevator.
Thomas looked at Harriet, "Are you jealous?" He asked carefully, "I could be." Harriet narrowed her eyes playfully. Thomas was about to speak when Harriet made playful grabbing hands at him. "Harriet..." Thomas slowly backed away, Harriet lunged towards him and Thomas dodged. "Wait until we get to the penthouse!" Thomas exclaimed rushing for the elevators.
"Don't think I can't chase you down in heels Thomas!" Harriet exclaimed rushing after him, Thomas let out a shout when he felt Harriet grab the coat tail of his blazer. "Harriet!" He yelped as the doors to the elevators opened, Thomas ran inside and Harriet followed corning him.
The two of them panted as Thomas leaned over pressing the top floor button. "Heels are not for running in," Harriet complained leaning against Thomas as he leaned against the wall of the elevator. He smiled down at Harriet who smiled back at him, the two of them kissed just as the door opened to the top floor.
"Well. It's good to see you two getting along." A deep rumbly voice remarked stoically.
