Back on Earth.
The next day Rose had snuck out of the school to visit a place, Clare had told her about. It was none other than Merissa’s place. After meeting with her and introducing herself as Clare’s disciple Merissa let her in. Followingly, she narrated the events that took place at the school’s library.
“I see… so he was taken away…” Merissa said indifferently giving Rose the feeling that she couldn’t care less. But she missed Merissa clenching her fist, clearly angry and upset that Alex was taken away.
“My master instructed me that she wanted to talk with you after I gave you this news. She said she had some information about Alex that she needs to discuss. Should I make a call?” Rose asked to Merissa who seemed to be looking outside the window but felt as if looking in some far off distance, such was her gaze.
Merissa nodded.
Shortly after Rose began pressing some buttons on her bracelet after which a hologram appeared on the screen. There was an empty chair which was soon filled by Clare as she took a seat.
“I hope my disciple has filled you in about Alex’s situation.” Clare said.
Merissa nodded in response. “But it shouldn’t be a problem for you to locate him, right? After all isn’t he in the Kingdom of Green Deralus.”
It was one of the neighboring kingdoms of Alemnol.
“Honestly, that’s true, with my influence I could locate the two boys but a big complication has occurred.”
Merissa furrowed her brows knowing that this can’t be good news.
“What sort of complication?” She asked worried.
Clare was one of the leaders of Council. Her influence was only second to Council head, the kings and queens and a few other top brasses of a different organization. Moreover, Alex was now in her kingdom, it should be as easy as lifting a finger for her to find him and help him. Even with all this, Clare seemed to be troubled.
“Yesterday, Alex and Blake were located in one of the local markets by some royal patrol guards. They managed to outrun them but it seems someone gave out Blake’s location. He’s a wanted person after all because of his ties to the Black Cloud. Because of this they were cornered by a captain of the royal forces.”
After sighing she continued, “The captain cornered them. Even if they had been captured I could have had them hand them over to the Council. But it seems Alex used the stone’s powers.”
“WHAT?!”
Merissa exclaimed.
“But he shouldn’t be able to… even if he uses his soul beast’s powers… to use the stone… it can’t be! Alex needs to first form a bond with that stone to use it. And none can do it because…” Merissa stopped midway chattering to herself.
“Because?” Rose asked.
She had been told by Clare about the item that was in Alex’s possession was a legendary one. The thing about legendary items were that some of them required to form a bond with their owners to be used. There’s no known method to make a successful bond with them. The items might end up choosing whoever suits them best or they might have altogether different criteria to form a bond. But there was a major drawback of trying to form a bond with some legendary items.
“Because none, who have tried so far had remained alive.” Clare answered her question.
…
Back with Alex and Blake, the day they had arrived in Emerald.
“Hey you sure this is the right place?” Alex asked as he and Blake were walking inside a big tunnel. They had come to the outskirts of the city and had gone into the forest connected with the city.
“I know this place inside out, just keep walking.” Blake said as he led Alex through different passages. After a short while they reached a clear opening inside the tunnel.
There were rays of blue sunlight coming from the sky. Alex was still in awe of this world; he hadn’t quite gotten used to all the different scenery. When they entered the clearing, a yellow creature with a human like body and an average height of about 5’5 came into view. He had a tail coming from his back and was bald. He was dressed in clothes which looked like those of a mechanic from Alex’s understanding.
“Oh, Blake boy you made it, I thought you weren’t going to come at all.” The creature said as he gave Alex a little observing look before shifting his focus to Blake.
“Well, I am not in the best of conditions you see.” Blake said as he lifted his hand to show the cuffs.
“Is the vehicle ready? I need to leave quickly.”
“It’ll be ready in a jiffy; you don’t have to worry. Why don’t you and your friend take a seat I’ll prepare some good juice for you both.”
“Yeah, whatever just hurry up Bevis.” Blake said impatiently as he and Alex took a seat on bench. Bevis then went inside a large caravan like structure. The creature had set up different things here and there.
“Is he a mechanic?” Alex asked curiously.
“Something like that.”
“His work doesn’t look legal though, I mean working in a shady place like this.” Blake kept quiet at Alex’s comment because he already knew. Of course, he wouldn’t go to someone working with the proper law, Blake was already seen as a criminal.
“Ack!”
Suddenly Bevis voice came from the weird caravan. Blake and Alex immediately got up.
“Hey Bevis everything alright?”
After a few seconds since no reply came. They moved towards the caravan to check on him when Bevis suddenly emerged.
“Oh, it’s nothing you boys relax, actually the part I was going to fix in your vehicle got a little ruptured. But don’t worry I’ll fix it quickly, it’ll take a few more minutes, I hope you guys can wait till then.” Bevis said hurriedly getting them to sit down.
