The captain wasn’t alone. He had brought some 20 or more soldiers with him as back up.
“Okay so are we in trouble?” Alex asked cautiously eyeing the group in front of him.
“Yeah, a little, any other captain was okay, but not him, he is …strong, I have clashed with him before, we’ll need to run.”
“Yeah, good plan, the question is how? they have sealed off the exit.” Alex said looking behind the small army.
Blake then looked back at Bevis’s stuff and suddenly spotted a vehicle. It had the standing space of three people with a bike handle to operate it. “As soon as I act, we run for the vehicle back there.”
“You sure, you know how to fly that thing?” Alex asked as he took a quick glance back. Some of the soldiers also hovered on the same vehicle looking like that.
“You must be thinking why that mechanic gave you out, well let’s just say, you are somewhat of a top priority now.” The captain said as he threw a paper ball at them. Blake caught it and upon opening it, he was utterly shocked. There was a price of 1 million tek (Emerald world currency) on Blake’s and Alex’s head. Both of them were now wanted fugitives in the kingdom.
“Alright Blake I don’t know how you got in such a pitiful state but you better surrender yourself quietly along with your friend or I’ll have to use force and that won’t be pleasing.” The captain said jollily.
Both of them then suddenly raised their hands in defeat. “Smart move, okay soldiers ta—
However, before the captain could complete his sentence, Alex suddenly drew his sword from the soul holder and released a barrage of mana slashes at them. He had their trajectories changed slightly as they hit the ground around them kicking up dust and obstructing their view. However, it didn’t last long. But it was enough for the two as they were nowhere to be seen.
“Now where did they run off to?” the captain asked to himself as he looked around.
“Captain above!” One of the soldiers warned. Blake and Alex were trying to escape on Bevis’s vehicle from one of the holes on the cave’s ceiling.
“A futile attempt. Catch them!” As soon as the captain ordered, the soldiers followed Alex and Blake on their own vehicles.
“One question, why the hell are they targeting me?” Alex asked panicked.
“I don’t know.” Was all Blake could say.
“You don’t know! Great! but tell you what, they must think that I am an accomplice of yours, that’s why.”
Blake just remained silent at Alex’s bickering; he was too busy trying to navigate through the forest. It was only his third time riding the Prexa so he was still facing difficulty. Moreover, the soldiers had already started shooting mana beams at them. He was able to avoid them all but his driving was very rough.
“We need to lose them somehow.” Alex said as he looked at the soldiers closing in. “Yeah, easier said than done, that damn Gale would be here any minute.”
“You mean that captain?” Alex asked as he pointed at a figure hovering in air several yards away in front of them.
“Fu*k name the devil and he is here.” Blake cursed.
“Don’t worry I still have the stone; I doubt he’ll be able to do anything.” However, Alex suddenly thought of taking those words back. A huge flaming red ball had manifested in Gale’s hand having a range of 50-meter radius.
“That guy is nuts! he’ll take his own men down with us.” Alex said as he looked back, but there was no one. All the soldiers were gone. It was as if they already knew.
“Looks like it’s just us then.” Blake said. He had long before realized that the soldiers held back because they knew what Gale was up to.
Gale then hurled the large flaming sphere at them. It was too fast and big for Blake to maneuver out of its range. The flaming sphere burned everything it touched in its path. Alex quickly launched mana slashes at it but they ended up doing nothing. Regardless Alex kept up his barrage of attacks.
Blake was feeling whether Alex had lost but soon realized that he was trying to change the sphere’s trajectory even if just a little. With the sphere almost upon them Blake turned the wheel as much as he can to avoid the sphere and barely managed escape it.
“Alright!” Alex and Blake screamed simultaneously.
“Hey Blake this thing can fire right?” Alex asked as he pointed at the two short cannons to either side of Prexa and a controller to fire.
“Yeah, it can, but that fire power won’t be enough to take that monster dow—
Blake suddenly noticed something kept beside his seat wrapped in cloth as his face turned into a smirk.
“On second thought, shoot that bastard down! I have a plan!”
Alex smirked as he tried loosened a screw on the cuffs on his hand which allowed him to increase the length of the leash slightly. He then took the controller; it was just like a video game with buttons to fire and a radar like aiming system. Alex got the basics and started firing at Gale.
“Take this!” Alex shouted as he fired the mana rounds at Gale.
“Retaliating, now, are we? Well, your puny tricks won’t work on me.” Gale swiftly dogged all the purple beams of mana shot at him.
Alex and Blake were closing in on him. Gale unsheathed his sword and was ready to slice them in half.
“We should change directions.” Alex advised as he grew anxious.
“No! keep firing, I have a plan.” Alex didn’t know what his pan was but he knew that changing directions at this point might not help either so he throttled at full speed so continued firing ahead. They were going to crash into Gale when suddenly the latter side stepped and a red aura covered his sword. He then swung his sword at the base of the Prexa. All this happened in one swift motion.
“Now let’s confuse this bastard. Hold on human! And fire at my signal!” Blake shouted as he shifted gear. The next moment the whole prexa turned upside down evading Gale’s strike barely by a few centimeters.
As soon as they crossed him the prexa turned back normal
“Woah that was awesome!” Alex exclaimed in amazement.
“Now aim at that grenade!”
Blake’s voice snapped Alex out of it as he noticed a small egg-shaped item falling on top of Gale. He didn’t waste a second before firing at it. Luckily for them Gale realized about it only after Alex started firing.
*BOOM*
The two looked back at the large explosion in the air.
“Even he would have trouble recovering from that.” Blake said to himself.
“Next time warn me ahead of time!” Alex scolded.
“Whatever, let’s get out of here.” Blake doubted that the captain would sit still.
