The Paladin's Path

Powerlevels

Powerlevels

Jan 23, 2023

The night came to a silent conclusion after Alriks last task. We went to our tents and made ourselves ready for bed......
HELL NO we were still to excited or at least I was. I wanted to immediately talk to them all well except Lurek that sulked a bit in the corner. Argh I need to mend this wound between us. Don't want to disappoint Trystan. That took the wind out of me quite a bit. I look over to Alrik that is currently changing to his pajamas. Rina didn't join us yet. She's still being lectured by Farielle.
"So you are a pretty good magic user Alrik, right?" Alrik looks over to me with joy over his face. "You think so? Thanks but I am now offically starting with my training as a mage. Durxel granted me the rank of Beginner that means I can start using the facillities of the mage guild to learn more myself. Ain't that awesome?" He wants to reply with the same excitement but I am more confused than excited. "Rank of beginner?"
"Ah, of course you don't know that. You are only arriving at the city tomorrow. Well let me be your teacher." I can almost see how sharp his nose gets from the pride that he extrudes.

"In Tyrael City and well all over the world we've got something called like jobs or classes. I am currently learning the profession of a mage which got different ranks to differentiate the powerlevels and how much you can do. Every job is split up the same way in the beginning with the ranks being Beginner "insert here your profession" in my case It's Beginner Mage and then being followed by Intermediate and then everything changes. For me as an example the next rank after Intermediate would be Apprentice Mage."

"And how do you define when to advance in a rank?"

"Oh that's quite easy. You've got certain feats to accomplish. Beginner mages must be able to cast atleast two spells. I can cast Bolt of Fire and Clean. Intermediates need to be able to cast 5 spells and be able to manipulate their strength. It's said the highest rank the Archmage should be able to exterminate a whole city if he just wishes for It. Though I don't fancy that kind of magic."

"Oho which kind of magic do you fancy then?" "Well I personally want to focus on creating magic items that are easily created and used. I want to improve the quality of life  around me and others." His smile begins to sack down a bit. " Well anyway, Trystan said something about you being trained as a Paladin right? If yes oh boy good luck you have good a long road ahead of you. It seems every guy in Tyrael City wants to become one but not many even get to the point of being able to choose their path going forward. Basically the profession Fighter and Paladin both share the same start just like the Mage. Till the fourth rank you are the same as a fighter thats when something happens to some people that gives them divine power. We actually don't know how It happens but we know that It just isn't the same for everyone." He scratches the backside of his head. " But It won't happen anytime soon till you arrive there. Just focus on your current training."

"Certainly will do but you still haven't told me all the ranks of the fighter and paladin." "Ah crap you are right. Well It's Beginner, Intermediate, Squire, Advanced, Knight or Fighter and then Paladin or Weaponmaster." I still got a question on my mind."What is something a paladin can do though? You told me what Archmages can do."
"Yeayeayea let me get to It geez. Paladin's are known in their capabilities to heal and be a major threat on the battlefield. Just your presence alone can inspire a whole battallion. Next is that you can cast spells without needing to learn them. You just pray to your god I guess. Like I said It's different for everyone. Next up is the ability to augment your weapons with your holy aura to smite some evil creature. That's everything I know personally and thats only from overhearing it from the other meatheads in my class. I am sure theres stuff missing." Sounds impressive If I am being honest. I don't know why but a fire in me begins to burn. A desire to succeed in becoming a paladin but It's weird. It doesn't feel like It's coming from me. It pulls me towards outside. "Sorry Alrik gotta go quick to toilet. I am going to be right back." " Eh okay wait don't tell me you didn't listen towards the end?!?!"

"Nonono I did listen something about meatheads." I turn around to leave the tent. The feeling still pulls me. It pulls me into the direction of the north. I can't really stop my feet from moving. So I just follow this feeling in my gut. I stop as I get to a small hill overlooking the plateau that we left behind today. I realize what I am looking at. In this direction is the Dead Marsh. The feeling starts to leave me. I stand there for a few minutes. Doing nothing really. I turn around and make my way back to the tent. As I pass a small cage, that I didn't notice on the way here, a voice that I know speaks to me.
"Curious, boy what and why did you stand there looking at the Dead Marsh?" I look over to the cage and I see that half elven dude that we captured sitting in there. He only wears ragclothes right now and now looks like a beggar. I can see his smile getting bigger as he looks over my shocked face.

"If It ain't you the little boy Thorry!"
