Blade’s POV:

While I was watching a movie with Rame and Vine, I felt like something was off, almost like something big was gonna happen. And then I was right, the echoing voice of The People spoke, saying “Blade Lee, We have made the official change of your soulmate, as your soulmate is not fit for you. Your new soulmate is a person called Rose, short pink hair, dark skin-tone, 21 year old and 7’1. You will meet them on the 23rd of November, your birthday. You will meet them in Green Days Restaurant, midday at 12:05, celebrating your birthday they will be your waiter. They have similar search history, but as well are not in grave danger.” I was so confused, no one gets paired with a new soulmate, not even if their soulmate died. I thought “Maybe The People can’t control this world as well as we thought”. Then immediately silenced this thought, as everyone knows if you say The People out loud or in your head, they can hear you, they can access your thoughts. I tried to put off the feeling that I still thought something bad was going to happen. I continued talking to Vine and Rame, all of a sudden I got a call, I knew who it was from so I didn’t answer. Then 2 then 3, I pretended to be shocked, then I called Anna back and went to another room. The first words I heard from Anna were “I got a new soulmate, what did you do? You did something wrong, of course you did. Now we’re not soulmates anymore.” 

“I did nothing, I swear, I don’t know why we have new soulmates now. It’s confusing nobody gets new soulmates, even if there’s dies.”

Anna: “WELL, you must’ve done something, cause I didn’t do anything wrong, why would I, I love you. Maybe you did something with your roommate, what’s her name, Vase.” 

“Her name is Rame, and why would I, she has a soulmate too, you know. Maybe the people made a mistake with us. Did your new soulmate description say anything about me?”

Anna: “Yeah, it said ‘and your new soulmate is not in grave danger.’ So like be careful”

“Mine said the same thing about you, I’m concerned now.”

Anna: “Well, are we still dating or not Blade? Cause I don’t like the sound of my new soulmate. He sounds like a bitch, also I love you so much I think I would die if I stopped dating you.” I winced at the fake tone in her voice and replied “Anna, we can’t do that, The People will execute us. And either way, The People changed our soulmates, and not only that, I think it’s better to stay friends now.”

Anna: “Ugh, fine, but like, who cares if we die, like I’d rather we get caught and die, or maybe not die and only you die. But like yeah, why don’t we just do what we want.” I knew Anna never liked The People’s control over us, but this was too much, and I knew her plan anyways.

Anna never really liked me, joked about killing herself, she was also homophobic, which was horrible. But I had to deal with her, and now I don’t have to. So I was kinda happy about a new soulmate. I replied to Anna a bit annoyed now “Well, I don’t wanna date anymore, so no, sorry though.”

Anna: “You’re not sorry Blade, you’re a complete bitch, who doesn’t care about me or my health, or about what I want, at all” I was so used to this from Anna and others, at this point I didn’t even get hurt by those words. 

“You know I care Anna, I just don’t wanna date you, that’s completely fine, you know, I have a new soulmate, who isn’t you, and I’m kinda excited to meet them.”

Anna: “EXCITED. Of course, you don’t care about me, excited to meet your new soulmate, leave Anna alone, ditch Anna, Anna doesn’t matter.”

“That’s not what I mean Anna, but we can still be friends, please?”

Anna: “Why should I still be friends with a person who doesn’t wanna date me, even though I was their soulmate. I think I shouldn’t”

“That’s fine then Anna, I’ll respect your decision.” I said, trying to stifle a smile and a giggle, I was so happy.

Anna: “WOW BLADE, really kind of you, just outright say you don’t wanna be friends with me. Honestly, I don’t know how I even loved you, how we were even soulmates. You’re just a horrible person, never cares about anyone, just an emotionless bastard.” I flinched at those words, they hurt me so much. Anna continued “Just a person who uses others for their own gain, like their father, abuses power, like their siblings. Oh how sad that the Lee desperate to change, became like the rest, oh poor Blade motherfucking Lee.” I started crying silent ugly tears, as Anna paused obviously being talked to off the phone, I got a minute of pure blissful silence, then I heard Anna’s horrid voice again. “Blade, Blade, Blade, a lost cause, an abuser, an annoying asshole, a copy-and-paste of his father and siblings. Blade, Blade, Blade, foolish like his mother, menace like her dad. Oh Blade Lee, poor you, and a new soulmate, what have you done wr-” I hung up on Anna too late, Anna’s words were already stuck in my brain. Why did I even call her back, why did I even bother, why did I even try. I tried to think of anything else but honestly I couldn’t, I wiped my tears, sat in silence for a minute or two, and left the room. Rame and Vine were so worried about me, they kept bothering me with questions like “What happened?” “Are you guys still friends?” “Are you okay?” All I answered was that we weren’t friends anymore, and I would be fine if Vine killed Anna now. I told them that I would walk back to me and Rame’s flat, and Rame said she would join me. Vine waved goodbye as we left.

The walk was silent and uncomfortable while me and Rame walked side-by-side. Rame tried to talk to me, but I didn’t want to talk so I told her that.
