“You… you’ve made a bond with it?!” Blake asked shakingly as he suddenly grabbed Alex’s collar.
“Bond? What do you—
“Don’t act coy in front of me human! Without a bond you can’t use that soul stone!! How am I supposed to get my money now?!!” Blake shouted in anger. He appeared really ticked off like Alex had never seen before.
While Alex had been visiting the library to find some info on the stone, he was actually successful. He found out that one of its abilities was to suck mana away from anyone and anything. There were many other alchemical uses there but nothing about a bond. Naturally Alex was ignorant about the fact that he had to form a bond with some legendary treasures first to use them.
“Oi, Blake, stop this…” Alex grabbed Blake’s hand to try to pull him away but he suddenly felt weird.
About half an hour so later.
The place where Alex and Blake had fought was quite severally destroyed displaying the signs of intense battle that had taken place here. Reinforcements had arrived and were currently providing medical aid to the injured soldiers.
“General Renardo, every single soldier including the Vice Captain Nozark of 5th Squad has been injured but they’ll all live. As for Captain Gale he’s experiencing mana weakness. But we might be able to take his statement in a few hours.” One of the soldiers reported to a person having the face of a bull with small horns fully cladded in cloth cum metal-based armor.
“Any trail left behind by them?” Renardo asked.
“None sir. From the looks of it they might have escaped on a prexa.” The soldier replied.
Renardo, “Do we have any info on that Blake’s partner?”
“We don’t sir, it is almost as if he appeared out of thin air. Though we do have images of both of them caught from security mirrors near the Kalas Market.”
Renardo rubbed his chin as if trying to comprehend the situation. “Fine, increase the bounty on their heads-10 million tek, alive. This other person with Blake seems dangerous. Also send out search parties, we need to find them quickly!”
“Sir… 10 mil? I know they defeated a captain but—
“They didn’t really defeat him. There aren’t many ways to invoke mana weakness in a person. Even if Gale fought will all his strength, he isn’t a fool to completely push himself to the point where he’ll fall in that state. Not to mention he doesn’t seem to have any severe scars or damages upon him which indicate that they didn’t engage him for long in a fight. There seems to be something fishy here…”
…
Back on Earth. A few days had passed since Merissa and Clare received the news that there was bounty on Blake and Alex’s head.
Merissa, “What?”
“Yes, originally, they were willing to believe my word of Alex being only a hostage but it looks like a general figured something out. So now they are also seeing him as a fugitive. The bounties on their heads are also quite attractive for people.” Clare said through the hologram.
“But putting a bounty on their head? And 10 mil? Isn’t this a bit too much?” Rose stated.
“It would have been if they hadn’t escaped a captain and not just anyone, it was Gale Tricast. Not to mention they even defeated that Vice-Captain with a title, Nozark.” Clare explained.
Rose was taken aback with the sudden revelation. “Could it be that…”
“Yes, I believe they have help of the stone. The good thing is that the Ministry doesn’t know about the stone’s bond with Alex. Nozark hasn’t woken up yet due to the severe damages he sustained but that wouldn’t be the case in the next few days. The soldiers wouldn’t have known even if they saw the stone of fate but Gale’s different, he has already given a statement to the higher up. It won’t be long before they might be able to connect it to the stone.” Clare explained looking at the report in her hand about the incident in the forest.
Looking up she continued, “It’s better if our people find him first. I’ll also need you to go back and forth to city Locis. I’ll obtain the permit for you.”
“Yes, master I understand.” Rose replied.
Clare, “At this point there’s only one option to get him out of this mess.”
Merissa, “I know… I need to prepare a bond severer.”
“That’s right, try to make it faster, we won’t be able to keep Alex hidden forever.” Clare said.
After going over a little more details the meeting ended. Rose pressed something on her bracelet as the hologram disappeared.
‘What are you doing Alex?’ Rose thought to herself as she sighed feeling that Alex was getting deeper and deeper into trouble.
Rose was in the girl’s toilet. Having privacy during the day wasn’t easy in this school. She then freshened up and went to her dormitory. On the way she met Nina.
“Hey Rose, how is it? Any progress.” Nina asked worried.
Rose quickly beamed a smile, “Yeah, everything’s alr—
“I want the truth.” Nina said holding Rose’s hand firmly. Rose knew she could easily lie about it but after all Nina went through it’s best for her to know. “We know where they are but can’t pinpoint their exact location.”
“And.” Nina prompted to continue. After that Rose briefly explained where they were and what happened. Of course, she left out the stone part.
“But don’t worry I’ll be heading there myself to find them.”
“The others think that Alex is on a sick leave, is that you’re doing?”
Rose only nodded to this. “I might just be saying this to make myself feel better but if there’s anything I can do…, though I am not sure if I can even go up against people like that.”
“Nina, you don’t have to feel guilty about it. It’s not your fault that—
“It is Rose! Alex did what he did to save me. Just try to keep me updated whatever happens.” After that Nina took off not giving Rose an opportunity to say anything. Rose only sighed feeling helpless.
Suddenly she crossed her arms while shivering a little. ‘Whoa it sure is cold.’
