When he got to the main exit, customers were slowly heading toward it, irritated that their shopping and meetings were interrupted. Some argued with the guards that since it was another false alarm, they should let them stay inside and go back to previous activities.
Smoking a cigarette, Kaeso was watching everything from a distance.
"Please remain calm. Walk this way to get to the exit." The mall staff was busy trying to calm arguing people and show them the right directions to the exit.
The crisis seemed to be averted. Undoubtedly, no one expected what was about to happen.
Kaeso lighted a scrap of paper with his cigarette and threw it into the garbage can. As the fire began spreading inside it, he just waited for one of the guards to spot him. Not being able to see their expression Kaeso was focused on their movements. Suddenly one of the staff members lost interest in the slowly moving crowd, turning the blank face straight to Kaeso. Not a word came out of his invisible mouth. Cold sweat poured down Kaeso's back. Was it the moment he was preparing for so long? Was it the right time to start the final stage of his plan? He must have been sure that someone from the staff would see him. Therefore, there was no other option. To be certain, he needed to draw their attention.
"Can you see me?!" Dozens of blank faces turned in Kaeso's direction as he knocked over the burning trash bin and kicked it to the center of the hallway, where all of them were gathered. There was no chance to control the crowd. Everyone rushed to the exit, screaming and ramming each other in panic.
"Fire!" Kaeso screamed with a breaking voice, running deeper into the mall.
Guards tried to calm people, but it was no longer possible. Storming the exit, they were repeating after Kaeso.
The place where Kaeso wanted to get from the very beginning was the information point. Everything he has done so far was related to this specific place. This little building was the most crucial part of his plan. He climbed to the top of it to get to its sign. Then opened the backpack, took out templates prepared in advance, and spray paints. The "i" on the blue background, which lets the customers identify where the information point is located, served as a basis for the graffiti. After using the first board, many other "i" in different sizes appeared on the sign. With each new template used by Kaeso, they gained more and more human features, including legs, arms, clothes, and hair. The only thing they missed was faces. In a hurry, with his hands shaking, Kaeso added all of the features only to one person. The smallest one received the eyes, nose, and mouth.
"There he is!" The guards finally spotted Kaeso and hurried to catch him.
The last thing he added to the image was the question: "Where are you?" at the bottom of the sign. The work was completed at the very last moment.
"Get down right now!"
"How about you going up here?" Kaeso proposed.
"I recognize his voice... He must be the kid who makes graffiti all over the mall!"
One of the guards took out the taser and pointed it at Kaeso.
"I am counting to three. If you don't come down, I will shoot."
Kaeso has not moved an inch.
"One!"
"Two!"
He bowed like an actor in the theatre at the show's end.
"Three!"
The guard shot Kaeso with the taser. He collapsed inertly.
After regaining consciousness Kaeso was led outside with his hands cuffed in the back.
"Why did you do that?" One of the men dragging him suddenly asked a question.
"Basically, to distract you for a while. I couldn't come up with another idea to make everyone leave the mall…"
"I don't mean the fire. You could have easily escaped us. It just looks like you…"
"I let you catch me? Is this what you trying to say?", Kaeso smirked. "I will only say that I am impressed with your deduction abilities."
"Understood, we are taking him outside" Second guard was talking with a policeman by earphone. After ending the call, he added, "The police car is already waiting for us outside."
"What? A car?!" Kaeso froze.
Everything was perfectly planned. He believed that from now on, nothing could go wrong...
Kaeso cannot see people's faces... This makes it almost impossible to understand the emotions of people around him and their intentions... He is trying to get used to it, but it is more complicated than it may seem.
Will he find the cause of his unusual condition?
Lost in the world of new technologies and robots, a street artist tries to survive another day. Kaeso hates the modern world, which takes away what he values most. However, there is no way to escape it.
