It takes two days, a long-distance walk for Creighton and baby Liam, as they could not afford the train going to the city center of Dale. It was a tough road for them and could only get a better rest at night near a river. He makes sure that his son is well-fed, and warm enough during the night. The small bonfire he made keeps them warm as he watches over his son without him sleeping in the night.
The following day, he carried Liam to have a bath on the river as they enjoy the cool water together, and the air breeze coming from the trees with the sun shining that dries their wet clothes hung on a branch of a tree.
He catches a fish for their breakfast with a piece of sliced bread and a half full of water in a recyclable bottle to keep them going for one more day.
Before reaching the city center of Dale, they rested for a while under the big Oak Tree where Creighton took something out from his right pocket. He has saved only pennies of money that he wonders if they could even afford to buy a loaf of bread.
“We are almost there, Liam. Just a few more walks and we’ll reach the city of Dale.”
Creighton said as he slowly got up and carried Liam back in his arms. Liam seems to have fun the entire journey. Liam would use his left little hand to tap his father’s face using his left soft hand. He would give him a warm smile, that Creighton forgets his sleepless nights. And, for the very first time, he heard Liam call him…
“Pap-pa-” Liam stutters as he gently smiled and gently caressed Creighton’s right cheek.
Creighton froze from walking as he was stunned to hear his son’s voice, his son’s first word.
“What did you just say?” Creighton looks at Liam.
“Papp-pa.” Liam stuttered again as he tenderly smiled and holds his father’s left cheek with his cute left hand.
Creighton, with tears of joy, hugged him tightly and smiled at him in tears.
“I love you, my son. Papa will never give up. Papa will do everything to give you a better future.”
Creighton tenderly said, as his son feels his warm embrace, his father’s tender sound heartbeat, as he rested his head on his father’s chest. Baby Liam tenderly smiled with ease as he falls asleep.
