Have you ever felt like you're not good enough? Everyone around you appears to be pleased with how you handle things, with who you are, and with you, but...do you have the feeling that you are deceiving them, that you are not as good as you should be, or that you fail to meet the expectations of those around you?
Well, I've been there many times and will undoubtedly be there many more, feeling as if I don't belong, like an idiot stuck in a room of geniuses. Doubting your talents, expertise, or even achievements is a given for some of us who spend the vast majority of our existences in the darkest of places, not by choice most of the time, but by circumstance.
We generally deal with this oddly by working harder and establishing progressively higher standards every moment, and when we fail to adhere to those standards, we feel lost, like a fraud, as if we don't deserve what we receive.
But don't worry, you'll realize your real value slowly but surely, often it takes a lot of effort and time, sometimes this takes a wake up call, a reality check, or whatever you choose to call it, but you'll eventually know, yes you are skilled, those hours of effort put into honing an ability, the talent you were born with, and those accomplishments that have been following you your entire life, will shine through the cracks, embrace those moments and enjoy them. Forget about the others and focus on what is yours.
We all learn to love the small details that define who we are, and I'm certain that you will as well, so don't despair and just look for all those truthful moments hidden in the darkness, everything will be okay, you will be okay...
Impostor Syndrome? Yeah, I know some of us go through a cycle of it every single day, maybe at work, or at home, with your family or friends, but in the end, know you are worth it and you are valued.
There are small things we try not to think about which cannot be avoided, such as our reactions to the world around us or ourselves, these are just a few of the thoughts that plague my head from time to time and a way for me to express my feelings out to the world.
