Mark was now in front of the two bank robbers while he stood in front of them not saying a word. The bank robbers looked at each other and snickered as they busted out laughing.
“Hahaha! You? You’re just a scrawny little kid and you wanna stop us!” The lanky man laughed as he held his stomach.
“I think the kid's voice still cracks haha! Oh god, I’m gonna wet myself.” The short man laughed as well.
The lanky man walked next to Mark and checked him out. “What is this supposed to be your little Halloween costume? You said you wanna beat the both of us but won't even show your face huh brat.” He reached for Mark's bandanna but Mark grabbed his wrist and stopped him.
Mark took a deep breath while the lanky man scoffed at him and told his partner in crime to “Watch this.” Mark thought to himself “Here goes nothing.” He leaned back, clenched his fist, and threw a punch that missed completely.
His fist didn't even graze the man due to his lack of reach. The two men laughed at Mark as the lanky one shot a beam at Mark's chest sending him crashing into a house.
The lanky man dusted off his hands and directed his attention towards the cops who readied their weapons.
“Was that kid your backup? If so then you pigs are really pathetic!” The short man roared as he grabbed a large rock and launched it toward a cop car.
Mark leaped out of the rumble and intercepted the rock despite being pushed back a bit from it. He landed on his tippy toes and set the rock down ever so slightly. He dusted himself off and caught his breath a bit from that last attack.
“I'm guessing you’ve never been in a fight before, kid. Two pieces of advice for you, try to hit the person you're fighting and two you’re at a disadvantage when it's two v one.”
“I thought this kid was just a regular idiot but he's a gigantic one.” The short man laughed.
“Noted.” Mark rushed forward, his body moving faster than he wanted it to as he blitzed past the robbers tripping onto the ground. “Ugh..” The robbers laughed at him once more while he stood back up. The short robber cracked his knuckles and decided to take Mark at least somewhat seriously.
“Just so you know kid. I’m strong.” He reeled back his fist and swung it at the side of Mark's temple.
Mark was slammed into the pavement so hard that he bounced back up for a second as the robber threw another hook, sending him crashing into a police car.
The short robber walked towards Mark and picked him up by the back of his collar. “Yo Mike I think I broke the kid!”
“Well then toss him to the side and let's book it with the dough!”
The robber looked at Mark one more time and was about to throw him into the dirt again when Mark kneed him in the jaw. The robber groaned in pain and dropped Mark as he caught his breath once more.
The lanky robber started to complain and asked “I thought the kid was knocked out?!”
Mark’s now green eyes had a look of determination to them as he slowly put his fists up. His mind was telling him to stay down and let the robbers get away but something else was telling him to stand his ground and fight.
“I’m strong too.” Mark let out a roar and ran towards the robber while reeling his fist back.
“Try not to miss this time kid.” He ran towards Mark reeling his fist back as well.
Mark and the robber clashed fists as the ground below them began to crack into pieces. The robber smiled with a sense of surprise and cockiness. “I guess you can pack a punch if you want.” He said. “But can you take one!” The robber spun fast and swung his fist toward Mark's head intending to end the fight right then and there.
Mark's eyes widened as he tried to step back but it was too late. “I won't be able to block in time.” Mark closed his eyes and tried to put up his guard expecting a fist to connect with the side of his face but yet nothing happened.
AAAAAH
The short robber screamed in pain holding his fist as the lanky robber ran over to him to check out what was wrong. Mark opened his eyes back up and saw a slab of concrete covering him as if it were sentient. He looked around it and saw an imprint of the robber's large fist directly in the middle of it.
“Oh yeah! I forgot about that! Or should I say those!.” Mark grunted as he flung his hand out and tried to control the slab of concrete while nothing happened. “Come on! Rock powers go! Haah! Unleash!”
While Mark was making sounds and weird poses the robber was still screaming in pain as the other one decided to take over. The robber stuck out his hand and launched an energy blast that flew toward Mark. Mark put his hands out to block as a wave of fire shot out of his palms which intercepted the energy beam.
“What the hell? What's with this kid, is he the freaking Avatar?!? Tch, it doesn’t matter I’m taking this kid down! Hey, Luis hurry up and stop yelling we’re gonna jump this brat now! Hey Luis I said-”
HAAAA!
Mark ran in front of the lanky robber and yelled “Fire Powers Go!” as a blue freezing blast was launched out of his hand. Mark was flung on his butt from the force of the blast while the lanky robber's head was completely frozen solid.
Mark said to himself “Not exactly what I wanted but hey it works.”
“Mike you damn idiot. Stand still stand still.” The short robber slapped the sides of his partner's face as the ice around his face shattered. “Let's see fire attacks, ice attacks, and rockish attacks? I guess? What would you even call those? Doesn’t matter but this kid has a bunch of tricks up his sleeve.”
The lanky robber sneezed from the cold he felt earlier as he wiped his nose. “Any more surprises before we knock you out, kid?”
“Well there's one more but I don’t really know what it does, so here goes nothing.” Mark disappeared then reappeared next to the lanky robber and tackled him into the other one.
Mark leaped back and then ran towards the both of them while they were dazed. “I'm getting the hang of this.” He thought to himself as he felt his body accelerate even faster than before as he yelled out “Purple Lightning thingy go!”
WHOOSH
A large gust of wind swept through the surrounding area as the remaining police officers who were still there tried to hold themselves down and tried not to get blown away. Once the wind finished blowing one of the officers looked at where Mark and the two robbers were as they spontaneously disappeared.
“Did anyone see where they went?!?” One of the officers yelled as the others shook their heads signifying no.
Mark slowly opened his eyes as he saw the two robbers in front of him both still dazed from the last attack. He slowly looked down and couldn’t feel his feet touching the ground as he screamed at the top of his lungs.
It seems when he tackled the robbers during his last attack he lost control of his powers and hurled them hundreds of feet into the air.
“CRAP! CRAP! WHAT DID I DO!” He flailed his arms around as he saw the two robbers begin to come to their senses as they yelped at the top of their lungs as well.
The lanky robber looked at Mark as his partner held onto him. “How the hell did we end up in the sky kid!”
“I DON'T KNOW I DON'T KNOW STOP YELLING AT ME! YOU’RE THE BAD GUYS HERE!” Mark looked down, he and the two robbers were now free-falling through the air. His eyes quickly widened as he noticed a Goodyear blimp. “Please don’t miss. Please don’t miss.”
Mark straightened out his body and took a nosedive towards the Goodyear blimp. The short robber told his buddy to follow Mark.
The lanky robber straightened his body as well and began to propel himself downwards with his energy beams right on Mark's tail.
Mark braced himself and rolled once he touched the top of the blimp as he bounced a bit. The robbers did the same thing as the fight relocated to the top of the blimp. Mark held his chest and tried to catch his breath as he thought he would’ve died if he missed the blimp.
“Hey kid, one thing you need to know about this whole power thing is well…I don't know. Maybe? LEARNING HOW TO CONTROL YOUR POWERS!” The short robber shouted at Mark.
“We were blessed with these kick-ass powers! It didn't even take us long to completely master our powers!” The lanky robber said confidently.
“Even if you take us out if you wanna continue playing hero there are hundreds, no, probably thousands of people who have powers even stronger than ours! Their mastery over them is probably even better than our own.” The short robber said with a smile.
“We know you’ve seen the stuff on the news! The cops tried to clear it up but with the crime rate and the fatality rate both going up they can't hide it for long!” The lanky robber boasted.
“So stop trying to play hero kid. If petty low-level thugs like us can get blessed with these powers then other high-ranking criminals like mob bosses or gang leaders can get them too. Compared to us, it seems your powers are more like a curse than a blessing huh brat? So just quit, why don't you?” The short robber said with a serious tone.
A “curse?” Mark thought to himself if these new abilities were truly a curse. He also thought about what else the two robbers said. Even if he stops them here more criminals will rise up and take their place.
With no one to stop them except the cops who can barely retaliate. Mark stood still as his eyes reverted back to their normal black shade. He knew even if he never used these powers again for the rest of his life he wouldn’t be able to live a normal life.
He’d be different from everyone else despite them not knowing it he would deep down in his heart. Mark put his head down as his hair covered his eyes.
“Hey, Mike the kid isn't talking or moving anymore. While he's distracted we should finish.”
“Sure thing. I'll put some extra juice into this one.” He cupped both his hands in front of him horizontally. “RAAAAGH! TAKE THIS YOU BRAT!”
The energy beam flew out at incredible speeds towards Mark as his eyes reverted back to bright green. He put his hands in front of him and was holding back the blast despite not having a grip due to the blimp's surface. A vein appeared on Mark's forehead, flexing both his arms and legs in order to hold the blast back.
“A curse? You said that my powers are a curse! I don’t think so! After gaining these weird powers something called me to come and stop you guys! Even before I got these powers something completely different was calling me to get them."
"I was scared and shocked at first but still, Up until now I’ve just been a normal middle school kid, but now I have a chance to be somebody! SOMEBODY GOOD! SOMEBODY BETTER!"
Mark roared and redirected the blast into the air as it glided away. He bolted towards the robbers, closing his eyes and clenching his fists. He chanted the words “Please work. Please work.” over and over again in his mind.
“Not too fast!” He said as he stopped right in front of the robbers just how he wanted. “Hard but not too hard!” He swung his fist at the side of the short robber's head as he groaned in pain. “Now if I put those together. Not too much or little! I can.”
FULLY ATTACK!
Although Mark had never been in a fight his entire life he made up for it with the newfound strength and speed his powers granted him. He threw random and uncalculated punches at the lanky robber making him groan in pain as well. He leaped up and swung his leg at the short robber making him fall.
“SCREW IT! LET'S ICE THE KID FOR GOOD THIS TIME!” The short rubber slammed his hand on the blimp's surface causing Mark to bounce up and down. “MIKE BLAST HIM!”
“NO NEED TO TELL ME THAT!” The lanky robber fired off a beam and hit Mark directly in the chest as he was launched off the edge of the blimp.
AAAAAAAH!
Marks screamed as he fell out of the sky. The further he got from the two robbers the quieter his screams became. The two robbers dusted themselves off and helped each other up as they caught their breath.
“That kid almost got the slip on us huh? Really a kid like him getting powers just like us. Guess that serves him right not to play with adults. Hahaha!” The lanky robber said as he looked over the edge of the blimp and began gloating.
“Yeah now he's nothing more than a splatter on the pavement-” The short robber said while he was facing away from his partner as his jaw suddenly dropped. “H-h-h-h-he-h-h”
The lanky robber stopped gloating for a second and turned around. “What is it Luis-” His jaw flung open as he and his partner both pointed in front of them.
HE'S FLYING!?!
Mark, who was thought to be nothing more but a splatter on the ground, was now hovering in the sky in front of the two robbers. “Trust me I’m surprised too, but.” He said with a confident grin as he took off into the sky and flew back down at supersonic speeds. “THE LAST SURPRISE FOR YOU TWO WILL BE HOW MUCH TIME YOU GET IN JAIL!"
The robbers hugged each other in fear as Mark flew towards them and picked them both up by their collars and zoomed back down to the city. A large gust of wind accompanied Mark as he reached ground level while the robbers were petrified with fear. Mark dropped the two robbers and continued to hover over them, clenching his fists as slabs of the pavement confined their bodies.
“That should keep them in place for a while.” He said as he dropped to the ground stumbling to stay on his feet. “I'm so lucky that flight ability kicked in while it did or I would’ve been toast. The dudes at the video game club aren't gonna believe this. Wait, I am kind of a superpowered person now so don’t I need a secret identity.”
While Mark went over some things in his head the cops surrounded the two robbers and proceeded to read them their rights. One officer walked over to Mark followed by a small group of them as they were sort of embarrassed they got saved by a kid but grateful at the same time.
“Thanks kid those guys and a bunch of other superpower criminals have been terrorizing the street for an entire week now. Without you, we would’ve been toasted.”
“Hehe. It was nothing! Well, it wasn't definitely nothing I could've died at least 5 times but hey- But yeah! No problem.” His bandanna was about to slip off as he turned around while crouching and slowly tightened it. “That was close. Uh I mean yeah it was nothing but I gotta go now.”
Mark hovered in the air and was about to fly away when one of the officers called out to him.
“Hey, kid you got a name or anything?”
“A name?” He whispered to himself. “I should've thought about that…Space Kid..No that's dumb. Super Flying Fire Ice Rock Purple Lighting kid? No that's too long…Rock Boy- No no Meteor Kid? Lad? Crap uh..” He whispered to himself trying to think of a name as he looked at the officers and took a deep breath.
“MeteOR bOY.” He covered his mouth as his voice cracked while he was trying to say his “cool” hero name. “M-meteor Boy. That's. That's my name. Uh, gotta go bye!”
The cops looked at each other and then chuckled a bit. “What a strange kid.” One of the cops said.
Mark flew into the distance as his eyes were now back to their usual black color. “I hope that name isn't already taken.” Mark thought to himself as he flew into the distance.
