Kaeso woke up at the police station. It took him a moment to realize why and where he was.
Kaeso concluded that he must have fainted because of tremendous stress. It was kind of luck that he did not regain consciousness earlier. The situation at the mall exit was just a prelude to what would have happened if he had gotten into the car, being fully aware of it. The driver was hospitalized the last time he was forced to do so. Kaeso also did not come out of it unscathed, but definitely in better condition...
When he got back together and fully regained control over his actions, the police officers at once noticed that he had woken up. It was hard not to since Kaeso was singing "I Fought The Law" by The Clash so loud that it was hearable in the whole arrest.
"Shut the fuck up! Or I will get inside and gag you." They knocked on the door to Keaso's cell. It caused the opposite effect. He sang even more passionately. Threats from the policemen were useless.
In the end, Kaeso stopped his performance when they took him for questioning. Sitting in front of the interrogator, he was surprised that the room he was brought in looked remarkably like those shown in the movies. With his hands crossed, Kaso looked around, not paying attention to the officer. After the man read the files lying on the table, he raised his head and stared at the convict for a while. Kaeso wondered what was he trying to achieve by it. Maybe he was trying to scare him and played the game of who first will break eye contact? Kaeso got interested and played along for some time. Although, having the advantage of not seeing the opponent's weapon was not fun.
"Now you are acting all tough. Forgot how you almost pissed in your pants?" Finally, the officer said something. A few minutes more and Kaeso would start singing again.
"Come on. This is a perfect place to perform this song. Don't you think?"
"Not really." He dismissed the question and continued the interrogation. "Why did you do that?"
"I won't answer any of your questions before my aunt arrives. Where is she?"
"Firstly, answer my questions. Then I will give answers to yours."
"Maybe we will turn the tables? You tell me what I want to know, and then I…"
"She is not picking up the phone." The man was getting fed up with Kaeso's talk. Certainly, there were lots of more engaging crimes to take care of.
"Then call her again." He leaned against the back of the chair and started swinging on it.
"We will. Let's get back to the interview for now." An officer was struggling to hold his nerves.
"Call her." Kaeso smiled.
"Are you deaf?! I have already told you!" And he lost them.
Someone opened the door, not introducing himself or apologizing for suddenly entering. The young policeman began to talk fastly.
"For now, Mrs. Evans cannot get here, but she wants to talk with him if possible."
The officer questioning Kaeso hit the table with his open hand.
"Dammit, Mark! What I have told you about interrupting me?!"
"So, you were lying? That's not nice..." Kaeso triumphed.
"I'm sorry, sir." He began to tremble with fear.
"Give the boy the damn phone and get out of here."
"Yes, sir." He carried out the command and run out of the room.
When Kaeso finally got the phone, he hesitated to start the conversation. Even though he was waiting for this moment so long...
"Hello…?"
Silence.
"Are you there?"
Still nothing.
"I think something is broken…" Kaeso took the phone away from his ear.
At last, the woman on the other end sighed and broke the silence.
"Can you hear me? Will you come and pick me up?" Kaeso's voice was completely different now, and his confidence had disappeared. It sounds as if he was begging.
"How many times have I told you not to bother me? You know my schedule well, so answer this question yourself." Her cold voice made Kaeso shiver.
He did not have the time to share his answer with her because Mrs. Evans hung up.
"So, is there anyone who will pick you up?"
"If August does not have piano lessons tomorrow morning and my uncle will be able to get late to work, then maybe tomorrow... Maybe tomorrow, someone will come to see me. Maybe..." A bitter smile appeared on Kaeso's face.
Today is the day when they are doing the cleaning. All the housework is more important than me? I thought… they were joking when saying none cares about me in this house. As a mother, she should… As a mother… Right, now I am sure she will never be my mother.
"Is everything right, kid?" Two green eyes waited for the answer.
It was the first time in years since Kaeso made eye contact with someone. Why was he able to see them now? He was not looking for them in this man's face but in the faces of people who were supposed to be the closest to him.
Kaeso cannot see people's faces... This makes it almost impossible to understand the emotions of people around him and their intentions... He is trying to get used to it, but it is more complicated than it may seem.
Will he find the cause of his unusual condition?
Lost in the world of new technologies and robots, a street artist tries to survive another day. Kaeso hates the modern world, which takes away what he values most. However, there is no way to escape it.
