Within a dark barely lit room that had multicolored wires, papers, and empty containers of recently eaten food on the ground sat a young boy. The boy had spiky unruly blonde hair and wore black shades which fortunately for him covered the bags under his eyes from the lack of sleep.
The boy spun around in his chair and began typing on the keyboard of one of the many monitors he had set up as he noticed something interesting while browsing the internet.
He dragged his index finger along the screen as the header of a news article read “Young Superpowered Boy Stops Two Robbers.”
The boy reached over to the side of his desk and grabbed a can of soda and sipped it. “Posted 4 days ago, so this is recent.” The boy kept typing on his monitor as he pulled up an interview of one of the cops that were there the day of the bank robbery.
“Sir! Excuse me, officer! We have a few questions for you!” A news reporter and her film crew approached the male officer. “What happened here today? Can we finally get an official name for this new drug is called that's giving people's bodies weird effects?”
“Listen you can believe what you want but we can disclose any of that information it's highly classified!”
The boy rubbed his chin and sipped his drink. “Highly classified. Heh. Acting like most of the citizens and local news don't already know about people with high counts of Galaxy Energy running around. Although they don’t know it's Galaxy Energy, hiding an otherworldly occurrence behind a drug is a good way of thinking on your toes.”
“Another officer earlier said there was a strange individual that stopped the two robbers and not the police! This Meteorite Kid? That was his name wasn't it!”
The police officer sighed. “That loud mouth. Like I said, no comment! Believe what you want to believe but us officers took this robbery into our own hands! No third party was involved, just the scumbag robbers and the police force that is all.”
The boy smirked as he sipped his drink once more and watched with interest. “He's a good liar despite them having another one be such a loudmouth with the information. It seems some officers don't want the public to learn about this. Now let's see.” He fast-forwarded the video a bit, hit pause then play.
“I asked a few of the civilians who were hiding in their homes during the incident while observing they said the young boy could shoot flames and ice out his palms!”
“They even said he possessed super strength and speed! Is this the work of the drug or some sort of unethical scientific experiment? Who is this Meteorite Lad? Child or whatever. We need to know if this is true. Will we see him again or not answer us please officer!”
“I said no comment now, buzz off!” The officer got into his police car rolled the windows up and locked the doors.
“Officer! Officer, please! We even have a picture of him right before he left the crime scene!”
The young boy paused the video once more and said to himself. “Picture? Probably blurry but interesting to give a look.” The boy scrolled down whilst reading the article and saw a picture of Mark who was wearing his “Meteor Boy” persona. “Covering half of his face is smart, but.”
The boy zoomed in on Mark's body analyzing it then zooming into his eyes. “Not that smart. Let's see about 5 foot 3 inches. Scrawny build. Brown skin. Black Spiked hair with two bangs. The bystanders were saying he's able to manipulate both fire and ice huh? Plus super speed and strength and I'm guessing durability and stamina.”
The boy looked at another one of his monitors and looked at a chart he made labeled “Galaxy Energy Readings.” He rubbed his chin and glanced at it for a while. “I made this chart that same night when I felt that high outburst of Galaxy Energy that's when it was at its highest.”
“A couple of highs due to a lot of people including Oscar and the others suddenly gaining abilities. Other than that nothing unusual, but then you go to the day the article was posted and you get a weird spike. Readings are similar to that night. Hmph. I'm guessing this whole thing is linked and that kid is the source of it all. Gonna have to check this out. Hey Lulu!”
The boy yelled out to a young brown-skinned girl with short hair who was sitting on the couch in the room. “What is it this time? Also, I told you not to call me that anymore!”
“Heh, my bad hey you remember that night when all the lights and my tech shut down?”
“Yeah and Oscar and the others gained the ability to use Galaxy Energy?” The young girl said as she rolled over and yawned.
“Yeah, exactly. I think I found the culprit of it right- give me a sec.” The boy was waiting for something to print as it finished. “Here!” He grabbed a photo of Mark and walked over to the girl and gave it to her. “I want you to find this kid you got me?”
She looked at the picture and then back at the boy. “When I find him you want me to do what exactly?”
“Once you find him, ask him a couple of questions about what happened that night. I'm guessing he's not very bright due to his disguise so it should be easy for him to slip up. I'm guessing he goes to one of the schools in the area so I’ll pull up a list and I want you to search each one.”
The girl sighed. “Is this another one of your weird experiments again? Cause I don't really feel like doing this.”
“Not necessarily this is more outta boredom and curiosity than anything. Also, I understand that but hear me out. If you do, I'll buy you some sweets.”
The girl sighed and put her hands over her face. “Sweets. My one weakness. Fine, where do I look? Also, you want me to find him based on a picture you don't have anything like a piece of clothing so I can sniff him out?”
“Unfortunately not my dear little sister, but knowing you he’ll be easy to find. You two are both 13 so if you hang around those schools you won't raise any suspicions you got me?”
“Yeah yeah just give me the list and I’ll be on my way. You better give me a bunch of sweets for doing this for you. Hey, you hear me right?”
“Yeah yeah yeah.” He went back over to his computer and typed extremely quickly. “Here you go.” He grabbed a piece of paper out of the printer and handed it to his sister. “Alright Luna you got the picture and the nearby schools so get going. It's 10 am so you have a while before the schools in the area let out.”
The girl sat up and scratched the back of her head. “Alright sounds easier said than done but whatever.”
“Also you know me personally I don't like to suggest force but if he gives you too much lip you can throw him around a bit. Honestly do whatever you need to do to get him to talk. Also, make sure not to transform in public by the way.
“Yeah yeah I know.” The girl sat up and began to walk out of the room as the purple gem attached to her necklace swung from side to side.
After an extended vacation, it was Mark's first day back at school. He was in history class and despite being late to school every day he managed to catch the bus with a little extra help from his new powers.
Mark sighed with boredom as he fiddled around with his pencil as the teacher was taking attendance.
“Lucas Masters?” The teacher looked around towards an empty seat as he made a mark on the attendance sheet. “He's been absent a lot lately. Now let's see.”
The teacher continued to call out names as Mark looked ahead of him and noticed Lucas' seat was empty. Mark began to think to himself. “The teacher said he's been absent a lot, I guess I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to apologize."
"Wait he isn’t absent because he's still ticked off about what I said. What if he's planning to beat me up? Wait I got superpowers now he should be light work for me now that I think of it!.”
Mark began to grin a bit, going a bit power-hungry as he tried to think of other people that have wronged him in the past that he could now get revenge on due to his powers.
He began to chuckle in his seat as the teacher asked him what was so funny as he replied with “Nothing sir” nervously as the other kids in the class snickered at him.
“Now if everyone is ready we’ll begin today's lesson, and after the lesson today we’ll be going over safety precautions for unexpected attacks. You may have seen them on the news. A new dangerous drug is spreading around like wildfire so that's what we’ll be discussing, but for now, open up your textbooks.”
Mark opened up his textbook as he sighed and thought to himself. “Guess superheroes still have to go to school. Look at Spiderman. Now that I think of it, having Spiderman powers would probably be cool.”
The final bell rang as the kids rushed out of school into the parking lot. Mark looked at the school buses rolling up to the curb as he was waiting for him to arrive. Mark felt something poke his back as he turned around and saw a brown-skinned girl a bit shorter than him standing there.
“Hm? Oh hi, do you need something?” Mark looked at the girl as he thought in the back of his mind that she was pretty cute.
The girl twiddles her thumbs in a shy manner. “Um. I’m pretty new here but I’ve noticed you around when I walk around the halls and stuff. I was wondering.”
“If you wanted to go on a date?”
“Oh you’re new here it's nice to meet you-” Mark paused for a second and froze as he thought if he heard her right. “A date? With me, but you don’t even know me.”
“I know, but it's just something about you. You’re so manly to me.” She giggled as she looked up at Mark. “So what's your answer?”
Mark blushed as he thought to himself “Manly? I guess my powers made me put on a little muscle. Although my arms are still pretty skinny, there's still a girl asking me on a date. I guess gaining powers gave me a boost in masculinity huh? No way I'm gonna turn a cute girl like this down!”
“So, yes or no?”
“Y-yes! Uh, when do you wanna go on the date?” Mark said excitedly.
“Can we go now? Pretty please?” The girl said as she blushed and twiddled her thumbs once again.
“Uhh?” Mark saw people loading onto his bus as he turned back to the girl. “Sure, let's go!”
“Great!” The girl said as she grabbed Mark's hand and ran with him. “I know the perfect place!”
“Woah! Alright, sure!” Mark thought to himself “I can't believe I'm going on a date with a girl! A real one and everything!”
Mark and the girl walked around the city for about an hour as she took him to a strange scrap yard. Mark looked around as the girl walked forward a bit not facing him.
Mark shrugged as he's never been on a date before so he wouldn’t know any better.
“So what did you wanna do first? I thought maybe we can hold hands, or maybe even kiss a little bit.” He said as he blushed and quickly waved his hands in front of him. “I'm just joking about that last part, don't take me seriously! Haha!”
The girl sighed. “You’re a bigger idiot than my older brother said you would be.”
“Idiot? Wait, you have an older brother?” Mark questioned.
She turned around to face Mark. “Yes an idiot, and yes I do have an older brother who told me to come out and ask you a couple of questions. And in order to do that I had to put on the sappy schoolgirl act and convince you that this was a date. Like seriously do you think people have dates in abandoned scrap yards? Now cut the crap. You’re him. The Meteorite kid or whatever aren't you?”
Mark's heart sank and his eyes widened as he stared at the strange girl in a more serious manner. “Who are you? A criminal disguised as a cute middle school girl? And how do you know who I am?”
“You can thank my older brother for that and can you not call me cute you weirdo? That night a little more than a week ago it's been the catalyst to everyone getting high amounts of Galaxy Energy resulting in strange abilities and my brother believes you’re the culprit.”
“Galaxy Energy? Wait night more than a week ago you mean during the meteor shower? How do you know about how I gained my powers?!”
“You don’t know what Galaxy Energy is, how naive. Plus you just snitched on yourself. That checks off one thing that I needed to know. The next is why would a pipsqueak like you get powers despite not being special at all.”
He pointed at the girl as his face turned red from her remark. “Hey who are you calling a pipsqueak you’re not even 5 feet tall! Plus you have a slick mouth to boot! I can't believe I called you cute! Also, I’m not telling a criminal like you anything! Since you know who I am, you should also know that I'm a renowned superhero! The one and only Meteor Boy!”
Mark struck a lame pose as silence occurred. Mark chuckled awkwardly as he quickly opened his backpack and grabbed a bandanna from it and tied it around his mouth.
“My mom always told me not to hit girls, especially cute ones but I’ll make an exception! The hero is never supposed to let criminals know their identity or else they’ll harm the heroes' loved ones!”
“Hey idiot, the whole secret identity thing becomes useless once I’ve seen your face countless times before you put on your disguise.”
Mark went silent for a moment. “Yeah, I knew that and totally didn't put it on just to look cool!”
The girl went silent for a moment as well. “You did it to look cool didn't you.”
“Yeah.” He sighed as he shook his head to refocus. “Anyway, tell me your name so I the great Meteor Boy can know so when I take you down!”
“You’re talking highly about yourself for someone so inexperienced about the whole hero thing. Do you even have full control over your powers- you know what I’ll see for myself. My brother said I could use force if I wanted to so whatever.”
She got into a strange fighting stance unknown to Mark as he rose an eyebrow. “My name is Luna by the way o Great Meteor Boy.”
“Good, now I have no problem defeating you. I’ll hold back a bit if you are a girl though.” He made a cocky smirk as Luna flashed in front of him and punched him in the gut so hard he got launched into the air. “AGH!”
Luna sprung high into the air using her arms and legs to propel her as she began kicking Lucas in the gut repeatedly as he was knocked into an old rusty car.
“You talk way too much but can’t back it up. You’re way too cocky after only just becoming a “hero” and gaining powers. It's a shame someone like you has such a high amount of Galaxy Energy. I heard you could manipulate fire and ice so start showing me all ya got.”
“Ugh..” Mark slowly got up as he held his stomach. “There's that term again Galaxy Energy? Whatever it doesn’t matter! You wanna see ice and fire? I'll show you both! SO HERE!” He flung his hand out launching a purple stream of Lightning towards Luna as she jumped in the air dodging it. "Oops.."
She landed back on the ground as Mark stomped his foot on the ground in frustration. “I guess from your reaction that wasn’t your plan? As I said you don't have full control over your powers. I’ll show you how you properly control your powers!”
Luna tapped the gem on her necklace as a bright purple light illuminated the entire area. She let out a loud inhuman roar as only two dark red circles for eyes were visible. Mark backed up in fear as the purple light covered Luna as she uttered “Let's get serious.”
