"Rough night?" Carlos asked, pouring a cup of coffee for Adam.
Adam nodded and accepted the cup gratefully. "Yeah, you could say that. I think I had too much to drink."
Carlos gave him a sympathetic smile. "Well, at least you had a good time, right?"
Adam shrugged, feeling more than a little melancholy. "I guess. I just...I don't know, man. I'm tired of feeling like this. Like I'm never going to find someone who really loves me."
Carlos patted him on the back. "Hey, don't give up hope. You never know when you might meet someone who will change your life."
Adam nodded, not feeling very optimistic, but appreciating the sentiment nonetheless.
After finishing his coffee, Adam headed to work. He was a software engineer at a startup in downtown Seattle, and he spent most of his days writing code and staring at a computer screen.
But today, he found it hard to concentrate. His mind kept wandering back to the stranger in the coffee shop, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he was missing something important.
As he sat at his desk, trying to write code, his phone vibrated. It was a text from Alex.
"Hey man, you up for a drink tonight? I know this great little place on Capitol Hill."
Adam hesitated for a moment, but then he decided that he could use a distraction. "Sure, sounds good."
As the day wore on, he found himself looking forward to the prospect of seeing Alex again. He knew that it was unlikely that he would see the stranger from the coffee shop again, but he couldn't help but hope.
When he finished work, he headed home to change and freshen up. As he stood in front of the mirror, he tried to muster up some confidence. He knew that he had to be open to new experiences if he wanted to find love again.
