Chapter 1: That Day
Majesty’s POV
The entire meadow was cloaked with shadows that dulled the bright colors of the flowers and green grass that could be seen in the morning with a gloomy darkness that reached out to strangle the joy out of anyone that happened to stumble upon the place.
The meadow wasn’t always wrecked with this terrible feeling of dread and agony. No, it was filled with giggles and joyous smiles of the dragons that inhabited the place before the war between sorcerers and dragons took place that ripped that all apart at the seams.
The gentle breeze that normally carried the scent of flowers throughout the meadow now carried the strong scent of iron that could only belong to the odor of blood, there was no mistaking it for something else. The various colored flower petals that danced along the wind that traveled through the meadow were replaced with ash and cinders.
A boy with brightly colored red hair could be seen standing on the sidelines miles away from the war currently taking place, with tears welling up in his eyes. He flinched when a hand descended upon his head and gently ruffled his red locks, which caused him to look up at his mother, who was standing next to him, whose hair matched his own, except it reached the middle of her back.
“Sweetie, please don’t cry. You know, I would do anything in the world to cheer you up, but nothing I do right now will change anything.” His mother said in a sweet tone as she looked down at him with a small smile.
“I know, but…Mom! Aren’t you afraid of this war?! I mean…isn’t there a chance that you might not---“ the boy started before his mother cut him off with a soft shush noise with her lips.
“Sweetie, don’t think such things. I promise you everything will be alright in the end. I may be participating in this war, but don’t worry; I’ll be back safe and sound before you know it, trust me. But in the meantime, I need you to stay strong for mommy, okay?” She said with a bright, happy smile that could put the sun to shame at that moment with the radiance of her smile.
“Those were the last words I heard from my mother before she left for war. Those same memories play through my head like a broken record because it’s all I had left to remember her by, or maybe it was because it was the very last memory of her, which is why it’s so precious to me.”
“The war between humans and dragons finally came to an end once the sorcerers believed all the dragons had been slain. But even with the end of the war, the sorcerers had suffered major causalities as well that could never be recovered, but was the cost really worth it in the end?”
“In the end, only six of us ended up surviving, and all of us ended up creating a close bond with each other; I’m thankful for that because I really couldn’t ask for better friends, and it made me forget a little about that pain that war caused.”
The same sequence of memories and dialogue played through the redhead’s mind endlessly whenever he closed his eyes, almost like a broken record. But just as quickly as his mind drifted off with those same memories as soon as he closed his eyes when he laid down on the lush green grass that belonged to the meadow, he heard it. A sweet sound had cut through the tranquility the meadow provided, and it wasn’t hard for him to figure out who this so-called voice belonged to.
“Hey, come on, Majesty! You can’t seriously be planning on sleeping all day, can you??” she spoke, her voice containing almost a sweet melody to it that could only belong uniquely to her.
Majesty let out a small groan as her loud voice filled his eardrums before he slowly opened up his eyes to reveal those beautiful orangey amber orbs he had that soon held the gaze of her blue ones that always reminded him of the ocean.
“Well, someone’s loud this morning. Also, I wasn’t sleeping; I was only daydreaming,” he said before he closed his eyes again, almost playfully trying to make her disappear.
“Uh, huh. You looked pretty out cold to me, and hey! I’m still here regardless if you close your eyes,” the girl said with a playfulness to her voice before she reached over to slightly ruffle up his red locks with her hand.
“Awww, come on, Lapis. I wasn’t even sleeping!” Majesty’s voice came out as a whine before he finally reopened his eyes to look up at her.
It wasn’t long before a smile appeared on the girl’s face before she reached over to poke his nose with her pointer finger, “Well, now that you’re awake. I need someone to go with me into town,” she said with a tone that practically said she knew he wouldn’t turn her down.
“You know, you could have asked anyone one of us to go with you; it didn’t have to be me,” he said before he finally sat up and looked over at her.
It hadn’t been long after he said that commentary that a cute blush had spread across her cheeks before it was soon joined by a pout, “Yeah, well, I could have, but no one else is here.” Lapis said before crossing her arms.
“But isn’t Adrian here?” Majesty asked with a raised eyebrow.
“You know as well as I do that, that guy hates going into town, and the least he has to go, the better,” she said as a small sigh soon left her lips.
“Well, you aren’t wrong with that one,” he said as he briefly rubbed the back of his neck.
If Adrian could do something about it, then he would do everything in his power not to go into town, even if they could just blend in with everyone else in their human form; it was how they lasted for so long. But, then again, there were only six of them after all, so the thought of being slain for their soul crystals wasn’t too much of a thought since a wish required seven. But that didn't mean they should let their guard down.
A gentle breeze had passed through her long straight light blue hair that reached the mid of her back, which flowed through the wind almost as if it was dancing. After the breeze had passed the two of them, she finally decided to speak up again.
“B-besides, I would rather have your company, and I hear they have raspberry cupcakes in town today, which are your favorite,” she said while cutely stuttering a bit along the way.
Majesty couldn’t help it. A small blush had risen up to his cheeks at the mention that she would rather have his company. He had reached up to slightly scratch his cheek as if that would distract his mind from the small blush that was currently present on his cheeks.
“Fine, you win. I’ll go with you, but only for the cupcakes,” he said with a playful smile soon dancing along his lips.
It wasn’t long before Lapis stood up, as she soon had a smile that mirrored his.
“Liar, you would have come with me anyways,” Lapis said.
A soft chuckle left his lips, “If you knew that, then why did you even bother asking, huh?” he said before getting up himself.
“Hey, dummy, I already told you why, and I’m not repeating it,” she said before playfully running off toward town.
“Awww, come on. I wanna hear you say it one more time….hey! Wait up!” he said, chuckling before running after her.
“Nope, slowpoke. You’ll just have to catch up,” she said with a bright, happy smile.
“I really couldn’t ask for better friends.”
