A woman on the screen carefully analyzes a chainsaw-wielding lunatic. His gait is awkward as he walks down the trail seemingly looking for someone. The woman holds tightly onto her knife slowly following this man. "I'll teach you a lesson for killing my dad," the woman says softly and shakily while trying to control her breathing to avoid being detected. The woman slowly begins to close the distance, raising her weapon as she prepares to ambush the stranger from the tree line. "Take this!" The woman thinks as she prepares to leap she accidentally steps onto a branch. Feeling her heart drop to her stomach she slowly looks back up to see that the stranger is no longer there. She confusedly backs into a solid object, carefully turning around she sees the stranger looking down at her with an unnaturally large smile.
“Shit!” Naira whispers as she jumps and takes Credence’s jacket as a cover.
“You hangin' in there, kid? Wanna step out and take a breather?” Credence asks in a teasing tone.
“I’ll headbutt you,” Naira says, her eyes peeking over the jacket. Credence laughs softly and straightens his back on the seat.
“You-” and as soon as he goes to speak, he’s interrupted when a sudden warmth grips his hand. He looks over and sees Naira unexpectedly placing her hand on top of his, squeezing tightly. He smiles and puts his arm over her shoulder, pulling her closer.
The two stand up as the movie finishes. “That was an alright movie, not too bad,” Credence states as he and Naira walk toward the exit.
“That movie was scary as hell! What do you mean ‘not too bad’?” Naira says, attempting to mimic his deep voice.
“Surprised you saw any of it, you were tucked behind my jacket for most of it,” he jokes. She shoves him while laughing.
“I wasn’t expecting it to end like that though. Definitely, a sequel coming,” Naira says as she slips her arms through Credence’s large black jacket.
“You still wanna go to the arcade?” Credence asks, opening the door.
“Hell yeah! It's DDR time!” Naira shouts as she begins sprinting across the street. “I'm fast as fuck, boy!” Naira thinks to herself with a look of determination as she runs at an incredible speed. She quickly turns around to catch a glimpse of him, and she suddenly hears the screeching of tires approaching quickly as she is lifted off of her feet. She opens her eyes to see Credence holding her by her waist. She hears people yell and cheer at Credence, who lifts her to her feet.
“both ways, remember?” Credence says seriously as he cradles Naira’s face.
“Uh-huh,” she nods while looking into his eyes, still in shock.
“You okay?” Credence asks as he opens the door for Naira, who still stares at him in awe.
“Uh-huh,” Naira replies once again.
“Hey! What the fuck’s her problem?!” A man yells as he steps out of his car.
“Nothing. She’s fine, get back in your car, man. We’re alright,” Credence calmly answers, still looking intently into Naira’s eyes.
“I don't care if she’s fine or not, she almost made me spill my damn food!” The man shouts angrily, pointing at Naira as he starts walking toward Credence who sighs and rolls his eyes with annoyance.
“I said get back in your car,” Credence turns back, facing the man, his gaze hardening. Naira can’t see Credence’s face, but she can see fur begin to sprout from his skin, and his voice becoming more of a guttural growl. The man leaped back into his car and drove away as fast as he could, clearly terror-stricken by Credence’s display. As if they were spectators of an elaborate street performance, the people on the sidewalk laugh softly before looking over at Credence as he walks back to Naira and guides her to the arcade’s doors.
“Come on, let’s dance,” He says, guiding Naira into the arcade. Loud music plays on the overhead speakers as children and adults alike run around, while others focus closely on their games. Through the chaos, Naira spots a crying child being guided to the restrooms as his mother consoles him. “Just two passes,” he asks the cashier, knocking on the counter with his large rings.
“Did you guys hear that noise out there? I swear the drivers in this town are terrible, even with the self-driving cars,” the cashier complains as he hands Credence the passes while craning his neck over the counter to see the front door.
“Tell me about it,” he says softly with a slight smirk. They both give a quick thanks to the cashier, and he gently takes her hand, guiding her to the game. Her eyes go wide and her heartbeat quickens, but as he notices, she pretends to have something in her eye and he shrugs it off. “Come on, kid. What song you wanna dance to?” He asks, already scrolling through the songs on the large obnoxiously colorful touchpad.
“So… you're an Other?” Naira asks, instead of acknowledging his question as he selects a song.
“Yeah, Were-folk. Is this song good? Seems slow enough,” Credence asks casually as he stands beside Naira on the dance pads.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Naira replicated as she stepped on the arrows.
“Didn't think it was important. Let me guess, a Texas girl like you isn’t too keen on mingling with Others?” Credence asks her as he steps on the dance pad more intensely.
“Wow! did something about me scream bigot when we first met?” She matches his speed, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
A crowd gathers around the two. “Course not, but you know those kinds of people can hide in plain sight,” Credence adds.
“You're right. Switch,” The two switch dance boards as the crowd gets larger and starts cheering in amazement. “You're right,” she repeats, “but that's not me. I don't care if you're an Other, not as long as you're a good person.”
“Mhm…” he says, doubtful.
“Really, Creed. That shit doesn’t matter. I really like you, but I don't like secrets,” she assures as the song comes to an end.
“Noted. I like you too, kid,” Credence says with a grin as the two close out the performance. They step away from the dance pad, Naira wipes the sweat from her forehead while breathing heavily, and the small crowd clears. Naira gathers her things and follows Credence to another game. Even though both could sense tension and hesitation in the air, they gamed throughout the night, laughing and chasing one another through the arcade.
“Where to next?” Credence asks, he says while twisting slightly in an attempt to crack his tight back.
“We could go back to my place if you want. We gotta be quiet though. Emory’s usually sleep around this time,” Naira says while holding Credence’s hand.
“Sounds like a plan,” he agrees.
Exiting the arcade she turns to see Credence holding the door for a family with his foot, he and the father exchange nods before he starts his walk with a waiting Naira. The streetlights lit their surroundings, and they felt like the only people on the streets.
“What?” She asks, fixing her hair after noticing him staring at her.
“Nothin… you're really pretty,” he replies with a warm smile, noticing her blushing. “So, tell me about your other friends, you seem pretty popular on Flashgram, you must have a ton.”
“Nah, I’ve only got a few friends from here but they're all solid. There’s my roommate, Emory. She keeps to herself, really. She kinda scared me at first, because she’s so secretive, but we're hella cool now. She’s Were-folk too, and she sometimes eats raw meat, so that took some getting used to,” she lets out a chuckle, “but she’s a great person, makes me feel a lot safer having her around. She’s like crazy fit too, you wouldn't know it because she wears baggy clothes a lot but shit she’s got like a sixteen-pack or something!” she says laughing while slapping her stomach. “Oh! There’s Randy and Cole, too. I met Randy through Cole. He’s super down-to-earth, and always there to cheer me up. He also helps even out Cole’s attitude. Kinda makes me feel bad whenever I hang around him because he’s all mature and organized and I’m all… y’know…not that. But he says it’s cool so I usually just act myself around him” she adds, sighing. “If you ever meet them, you’ll see what I’m talking about,” she says while pulling up a picture of them.
“I'm guessing the elven one is Cole?” Credence chuckles. He’s heard that Elves have a tendency to be very tactless at times, this causes him to smile and let out a soft laugh. Naira looks over to see a toothy grin plastered on Credence's face “What’re you so smiley about?”
Credence looks down at her. “Nothing just remembered something funny,” he says, not losing the grin.
Naira side-eyes him, suspicion painted on her face, though she doesn’t bother to ask again.
“Well, what about you, Giggles? What are your friends like?” She continues.
He laughs. “Well, I do have a lot of friends, but not too many of them live here. My closest friend is Rollo. He lives near the woods on the reserves. I’m usually over there hanging out and running with him.”
She looks him up and down curiously. “Ah, so that’s how Were-folk stay so fit, huh? Looks like I gotta get my cardio up. I’ll have a hundred pack in no time”
He smiles and laughs as Naira marches dramatically before bursting into laughter. “Yeah, it's always good to keep the blood pumping,” he sighs, “and then there… uh, was my other friend, but we kind of had a falling out.”
“Damn, sorry to hear that,” she says, unsure of what else to add and not wanting to pry.
“Yeah,” He says softly, looking down and shrugging his shoulders.
They both look forward and find they’re right by her building. She smiles as she opens the door, and they walk in, taking the stairs to the apartment. She lets him in and places her index finger over her lips. “No no just take the shoes off in my room, come on,” she says as they sneak into the apartment, trying their best to muffle their giggles. She guides him into her room.
“Hey, Naira, that you? Addy’s been looking for you… are you okay? How was your date?” Emory sleepily asks as she peeks her head out of her door.
“I turned my phone off, but I’ll give her a call. Thanks for letting me know. And yeah, I'm fine, it was great. I'm just a little sleepy, I'm gonna head to bed,” she replies, turning her phone on while still peeking out of the door. She shivers and tries to fight the urge to make a disgusted face as the hand placed over Credence’s mouth is playfully licked, while he stands out of Emory’s view.
“Okay, you get some sleep,” Emory says as she closes her door. Naira softly closes hers, and they make efforts to cover their mouths to hide their laughter.
“So, this is your room. It’s nice and colorful… like really colorful,” he compliments her newly cleaned room as he lifts a large blue dragon plushie from her bed having no idea how long it took her to clean before their date. A few seconds later, with no response from Naira, he speaks again. “So… what movie do you wanna watch?”
“Oh, no, we're not doing that,” Naira shakes her head as she grabs him by the shirt and drops kisses onto his mouth. Taken by surprise, Credence returns the kiss wrapping his arms around her. He feels her warm kiss and touch, while she thinks his lips are softer than any silk and sweeter than the finest honey. The world is spinning around her as he lifts her off her feet. She wraps her legs around him, and they both fall gently to the bed. Looking deep into his eyes, they let out smiles and he lays back on her bed.
He stops to admire her beauty. Her eyes are a deep brown with hints of orange, and her lips were flush from the kiss. She places her hands on both sides of his face, pulling him in for another kiss. He touches her smooth brown skin, feeling the heat of it almost burn his fingers. She kisses his chest before going back up for his lips. Before they know it, they find themselves fully undressed. Steam rolls off their bodies, the moonlight shining on their skin. Naira grabs his hair as his tongue dances in rhythmic motions between her legs. She pulls him up gently by his hair and kisses him even more passionately. As he presses his chest against her, kissing her neck, Naira feels his toned back.
They go back and forth fighting for dominance, touching each other, feeling each other, and allowing each other to feel what they desire. As Naira sat on top of him, he watched her face fill with pleasure as each landing got more forceful, deeper. They’ve caught a rhythm, and then, suddenly, they both sit up, grabbing each other, nails digging into one another's skin. They let out long deep moans before looking into one another's eyes and kissing again.
She feels Credence’s sweat-soaked chest rub against hers, both panting as she sits on him. They both lay down, and breathing heavily, he looks into her eyes and says the first words he’s said in a while. “Where's that noise coming from?” A confused Naira frowns at Credence and then hears the vibrating of her phone.
“Oh shit!” She lets out, quickly grabbing her purse. She takes out her phone and sees she has three missed calls from Emory, one from Cole, and six from Addebowale. She then returns the call to an audibly concerned Addy.
“Girl where was yo ass at! I told you to text me so I knew you was safe! Niggas is out here kidnapping people!” She yells as she goes on to let out a deep sigh.
Laughing nervously, Naira explains. “No, I’m fine, I promise. We just went to walk around and stuff.”
Her friend responded even quicker this time. “Where the hell was y’all asses walking for damn near five hou- oop!” She cuts herself off, chuckling quietly. “Okay girl, Imma let y’all keep walking. Sorry to interrupt.” She laughs loudly before hanging up, and Naira covers her mouth as she smiles, clearly embarrassed.
“Oh my God, she noticed for sure,” Naira whispers.
“I bet she did,” Credence smiles back as he lay beside Naira.
