Light started to pierce through the darkness as her vision cleared, and it was obvious where she was. Her arm was wrapped around a very familiar figure. The person’s hair spread out like seaweed and highlights raced down her locks like rain, and she looked exactly like Bela. She was stopped in her tracks as if time suddenly paused. Bela’s heart hammered in her chest as she took in the information. Her mother was dead, how could she be here and how could Bela be there with her? She looked around, it was a hospital room. It was very blank looking, and the only other color than white was blue which were the drapes that dangled from the ceiling. The air was still and peaceful and Bela turned her head again to see her mother. That was until an ear-piercing sound sliced through the room.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
Suddenly, a crowd of doctors and nurses rampaged into the room. All of them were wearing rabbit masks with grins so wide that Bela thought that both ends might meet on the back side. One of them grabbed her and dragged her outside as she shrieked from the sudden contact. While others wheeled her mother away and far down the hallway into a room where blood red light shone through the blurry glass on the doorway. The same crimson shine dazzled from other doors as a soft buzzing sound emitted from who-knows-where.
It felt like Bela sat there for hours, kicking her feet back and forth. Small specks of dust danced in the air bathed in a haunting blue glow. The small buzzing noises grew to an annoying whirring that pecked at Bela.
“What is that sound?” she muttered, beginning to feel more impatient from how long this was taking. What was she even waiting for? Just then the noise became unbearable, almost as if a hive of bees were following her. The tune seeped into her bones until Bela got up and ran, it didn’t matter where all she wanted was to get away from the noise. Bela darted to the end of the hallway; her sneakers squeaked as she barged into a random room. Her leg crumbled beneath her, and the rest of her body fell into the cold, white tile floor. The world faded into a bright light, but the buzzing sound stopped so that’s good.
“Hey! The girl’s moving!” A cheery voice broke the eerie silence.
“Calm down, you’re going to startle her.” An older girl answered. Bela slowly pried her eyes open just enough to see where she was. Right above her face was a girl with short, thick black hair and ocean eyes, right behind the girl was the older voice from earlier, she had braided hair but what caught Bela’s eyes the most was her ghostly appearance and ruffled angel wings.
After succumbing to a mysterious voice in a phone call, Bella Wellborne is now tangled in a plot to defeat a dangerous organization in the alternate, in-between world of Losspike with a magical umbrella and a group of odd folks to help her. Despite all their differences, they now have to work together to reach a common goal: Get life back to normal.
