Greyson’s POV:
Levi was quiet for most of the day yesterday, though he did answer the questions that Master Alastor asked and he didn’t seem sad. He just seemed a bit overwhelmed by our big group and fell silent. He wasn't uncomfortable, per say, but there was a lot going on and I know for a fact, thanks to Paxton, that Levi did not grow up with a big family.
Late last night, after Levi and Elijah fell asleep, Paxton texted me and asked me to meet him in the library where he has his own little office set up. He does online data entry for work, since it’s easy and independent and he can make money for himself since he’s also working for Master Alastor as his right hand. Plus, Paxton has this way of asserting himself and wanting to do everything perfectly, so his human employer barely ever contacts him because there’s rarely any mistakes.
Paxton showed me the little stalker check he did on Levi, and it showed that Levi was catapulted into the foster care system after his parents both died. It doesn’t say how they died, but it was within weeks of each other so I assume one died and the other may have killed themself in response. He moved from group home to group home, but his longest placement started when he was twelve and carried on until he turned seventeen, but he left a few months before he turned eighteen.
From what Paxton said, he assumed that there must have been some kind of fall out for Levi to have left so abruptly, but he refused to do a deep dive. Paxton said that for details I needed to talk to Levi himself. It’s pretty fair, as if there’s something horrifying in his past, I think an in-person conversation is pretty important.
It’s currently five in the morning, and Levi’s shift starts at six. He’s in the bathroom getting dressed while Elijah and I are sitting in bed, both of us tired. Yet, Elijah won’t miss dropping him off at work, and between the pair of us, I’m the safer driver. Of course, that means I’ll be driving because Levi’s not immortal.
“So, while you’re at work, I’m going to sit in the back of where Levi works and stalk,” Elijah tells me. “Well, maybe not for the whole day. I’ll come to bother you, too. Ugh, so much work, prioritizing both of the men in my life…”
I scoff and touch the tip of his nose. “So much harder than the jobs Levi and I will be at,” I tease.
“Yes, because I’m not getting paid.”
“Technically I’m not getting paid. I’m just making money to treat you.” I kiss his forehead as Levi walks out of the bathroom.
He looks at the pair of us and his cheeks are pink.
Elijah, being the bold sweetheart that he is, jumps up and makes his way to Levi and kisses his forehead, smiling at our human soulmate. “There, now you won’t feel left out.”
Levi blushes an even deeper red, grabbing his wallet and old cell phone. We will definitely need to get him a new one, because this old thing looks barely functional and it would be easier to just get him onto our phone plan. One less bill for him to pay.
Also, when he accepts, it will show a bit more trust for us. It will be a while, but I know that we will someday be able to be in our special three-way relationship. We just need Levi to let go of his fear and trust us.
“What do you usually eat for breakfast?” Elijah asks Levi once we’ve gotten to the kitchen.
It’s already getting light outside, since it’s early June. I like these sunrises, and I prefer the summer while Elijah likes when it stays dark until eight in the morning. He says it helps him sleep and gives him a disgusting excuse to put his toes on my leg to “keep them warm.” Hopefully Levi doesn’t team up with him or I’ll have two freaks trying to use me to keep their feet warm.
“I don’t usually eat breakfast,” Levi says softly. “I just take from the day old box at work.”
“Out of laziness or because it’s an extra expense?” I ask before I can think through my thoughts and actually filter my words.
To my relief and my luck, Levi doesn’t seem to retreat into his shell. I do, however, get a nasty glare from Elijah, which I fully deserve.
“It’s an extra expense,” Levi says plainly, but he doesn’t give off the vibe that he is trying to hide behind the walls that are still there. “I barely make enough to pay my rent and the extra food that they have in the day old bins is up for grabs for employees.”
Elijah frowns. “How long is your shift?”
“Six hours. Six to noon, but sometimes I stay later if it’s really busy.”
“I’ll pick you up then and we’ll take you for lunch,” Elijah chirps, skipping to the fridge and grabbing out a peach yogurt and then popping a piece of cinnamon bread into the toaster. “Eat. We can’t have you passing out or we’ll have to spend the afternoon at a doctor instead of in a five star restaurant.”
Levi goes a bit pale. “I can’t afford a five star-”
“Levi, relax,” I soothe, guiding him to the table and grunting when Elijah invites himself into my lap and sits down rather harshly. “First of all, you will not be paying. Elijah and I are immortal and have been around long enough to both build a great savings and we own a successful jewelry company. Second, we want you to feel comfortable, so if you would prefer to not go to a five star restaurant, we can go anywhere else. And, finally, you should not be living off of scrap food. You’re going to be eating every meal with us.”
He looks hesitant. “That would mean being here all of the time… I don’t want to be a burden. I really don’t. Whatever this soulmate connection is… I don’t want you two to feel obligated to put up with me just because of whatever this connection is.”
Elijah frowns. “Soulmate means for life, Levi. I know it’s hard to understand, as humans cannot feel the connection the same way, but you are not a burden to us and you never will be.” He looks at the table. “We can talk more about this over lunch. Eat your breakfast.”
I can’t help but smile at Elijah. Between the two of us, I’m always the one who takes control and tells Elijah what to do. It’s kind of cute to see him do the same with Levi, but it’s much sweeter and more tender. Probably because I’m head over heels in love with Elijah and definitely falling for Levi.
Levi listens to Elijah and starts to eat, and both Elijah and I join him in eating something small so he doesn’t feel like we’re just staring at him. Once we’ve all finished up, Elijah cleans up what little trash is left on the table before returning to us and grabbing Levi’s hand with one of his own and then taking one of my vacant hands.
He has a smile plastered on his face, and I can see his relaxed nature is keeping Levi from feeling too overwhelmed. In fact, Levi has a small smile on his face the whole time, and I’m not sure if he even realizes it. It’s likely subconscious, as Levi hasn’t been keen on intentionally showing much emotion other than depression and despair.
When we leave, Elijah insists on making Levi sit in the back, as the passenger seat is the most dangerous in case of an accident and Levi isn’t immortal. Elijah sits with him and grabs his hand, and I think it’s cute that Levi doesn’t let go. I can see their hands laced during the whole ride.
“Thank you for driving me,” Levi says quietly, but before he slides out of the car, Elijah hugs him and kisses his cheek. “Oh, uh, thank you?”
“Have a good shift, we’ll be here when it’s over!” Elijah chirps. “If anyone bothers you, text me and I’ll deal with them!”
Levi goes a bit pasty, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know if Elijah is joking or not. Of course, I know that Elijah is deadly serious, but I don’t voice that aloud. I just smile as Levi gets out of the car, wishing him a good shift. He just blushes in turn and does a cute, awkward jog toward the front door of his workplace.
Elijah climbs into the front seat and grabs my hand, a cheesy grin taking over his whole face. It’s humorous to me, as he’s known in Hell as being a complete torturous menace to Master Alastor’s victims, but here he has a smile taking over his entire face because he’s watching our soulmate walk into work.
Living on Earth, in a whole different world, has been good for Elijah. He is one of the younger sins, so he and Elijah were menaces and did not hold back when it came to torture. We didn’t know we were soulmates at the time, nor did I. However, I always felt attracted to him, and even before we knew how important we would be to each other, we did sleep together quite a bit.
Elijah and Lexi were not only the youngest of the sins; they were also the most entitled. As in: neither of them would sleep with anyone who they saw as a lower rank. Well, or with Paxton.
Once Levi is inside the building and I’m sure he’s safe, I back the car out of the spot we were in and drive toward my store. We could go back to the mansion, but there is a couch in the back room and I don’t feel that tired. Besides, I have bookkeeping stuff to do.
“So where should we take him for lunch?” Elijah asks once we’re inside and he’s started to organize the stray papers that I left in the break room. “Your disorganization makes me want to force you to practice abstinence.”
“Please, you’re the horny little monster in this relationship.”
“I think Levi might be, once he gets more comfortable.”
I narrow my eyes, a little amused and mostly confused. “What has he done to allude to that… at all?”
“Lexi told me.” Elijah puts away my papers in their correct spots. “He said that it’s repressed but he can sense some deep sexual desires. And he thinks the repression is due to something from his past that we should talk to him about.”
I kind of deserve him saying that, but it’s not like Paxton gave me an exorbitant amount of information anyway. I only got to know where he grew up and that he’s obviously got some kind of trauma, but.,/
“Let’s take him somewhere that isn’t overly fancy,” I say, and I know that Elijah knows that I’m blatantly changing the subject. “What about that grill downtown? It’s nicer, but I think Levi will still feel comfortable there.”
Elijah hums. “I’ll make a reservation then when they open. Also, you have some orders to make. Inventory is running low in certain departments and we’re getting closer to the fall season… people love to come in early to make sure they have everything ready for their December proposals.”
He continues on with his chattering, and I listen to his words but I’m mostly focused on how cute he looks when he gets excited and starts getting into a rhythm and keeps going on. It’s one of my favorite things about him; sometimes Winston gets annoyed when Elijah goes on and on during dinner, but I have never felt that annoyance. Unless it’s about a topic that I’m not too enthralled with (as in an embarrassing story about me) but even then Elijah usually sticks with stories about other things.
We’re a team, simple as that.
“I’m still tired, so I’m going to take a nap,” Elijah says once he’s finished his little tirade about my disorganization and lack of inventory.
He lays down on the couch and I take off my jacket and hand it to him before grabbing a blanket from one of the many cabinets. Elijah always complained about us not having a blanket in here, so I finally stashed one away for him.
I see the appreciation sparkle in his eyes before he closes them.
Elijah always gets cold when he sleeps alone. Honestly, he gets cold when we sleep together, too, but he remedies that by basically laying on top of me.
“I love you, Elijah,” I say, kissing his lips.
“I love you, too,” he responds once we’ve pulled apart.
With that, I leave him on the couch and open my computer to create orders for inventory. Since my office is quite clean right now, I make sure to print off all of the invoices from the countless places I order from so Elijah will have something to organize later.
It’ll be nice for him to have something to help him pass the time that isn’t scaring off clients who get too close to me. Especially when them getting close to me allows me to use my powers. That’s how I sell the expensive stuff, and now I have two boys to treat.
The clock reads a quarter to seven, and I know both Elijah and I will be counting down the minutes until we leave to go get Levi. I often shut down the shop for lunch anyway, though the hour and a half used to be spent having sex in the break room.
That will be on hold for now, but I am convinced that Levi will soon fall for us.
