It’s 6:52am. Doctor Linza Nicole was continuing her drive through the city. Linza occasionally glanced to her right, keeping an eye on the little girl. The girl had yet to move from her original position from her seat, but she still couldn’t take her eyes off of the dismembered arm on the windshield. While confirming the girl was remaining docile, Linza passed a small clinic, the same clinic she owns and works at. She also noticed someone laying in a pool of blood at the front doors of the clinic. Linza immediately stopped her car, grabbed her keys, and got out. Having anyone die right in front of her clinic would not be very good for business, even if she wasn’t open yet. Upon walking up to the man in front of her clinic, she recognized him as Shanty, sleeping on the ground, and was in very poor condition to say the least. “Shanty, why are you here?” She asked, “You know I don’t open for another eight minutes. Are you trying to scare off patients?”
Shanty sluggishly opened his eyes. “Oh, ya here now. That’s great cause I was starting to feel mighty tired. Think I’m losing a wee too much blood.” He began getting back up to his feet. “Think you can aid an old pal in need?”
Linza sighed, “Not for free mind you, but I at least won’t charge you extra for having me open up early.” She used her keys to unlock the front door and gestured for Shanty to head inside.
“There it is!” Another recognizable voice yelled, one that annoyed Linza even more than seeing Shanty. She turned around and saw Luke and Lemmy, the Eternal Bandits, running from down the street, with Lemmy pointing at her car. “That’s the car, I’m sure of it!”
“It better be.” Luke said, running beside Lemmy holding his blood splattered, wooden, spiked bat in one hand and a small plastic bag in another. “I’m getting really annoyed of stopping cars and bashing people’s faces in to get this wallet. Though I didn’t know it would be such a good way to make a profit.” He smiled while holding up the plastic bag full of loose cash and change.
Lemmy stopped running. “You know, if getting cash like this is much faster than threatening people for wallets, maybe we should try stalking laundromats. There’s loose cash and coins everywhere in places like that.”
“And make it easier for the cops to catch us? Do you ever think? Just come on so we can take what’s ours and leave already. We’ve already made too much of a scene earlier.” Luke said as he came in front of the car and grabbed Lemmy’s torn off arm, along with the wallet that was still in its hand.
Shanty had already gone inside, not noticing the Eternal Bandits were even around. Linza however, couldn’t ignore this. She walked over to Luke. “Hey!” Luke and Lemmy both looked over to her. “I need that arm! You can’t take that.”
Luke waved his wooden spiked bat in Linza’s face. “And what, you’re gonna stop us?”
Clearly she had not thought this through any further than that first sentence, and being killed in front of her own clinic is equally bad for business. Then she noticed something on the opposite side of the street that absolutely filled her with joy. “Ok, you’re right. I can’t stop you. But there is someone watching me right now if you were to try anything.” She smiled, while pointing behind her. “And if you only take the wallet and leave the arm, I won’t call the police on you two as you take advantage of robbing that hospital that was destroyed right behind you.”
Luke scoffed at Linza. “You really think I’m so stupid that I would fall for something like-”
“Luke, look!” Lemmy interjected with excitement. It was true, numerous buildings were completely destroyed on the other side of the street, including a half of a large hospital building. “Think of how much money is in that place due to medical bills. We’re gonna be rich!” Luke was also getting excited, even handing over the arm as he was also about to run across the street. That was until he was run over by Linza’s car, which was itself rammed into by a police car. Lemmy couldn’t help but laugh at his partner. “Oh shit, I’m sorry man. Are you good?” Lemmy asked, trying to regain his composure, but was then surprised himself as his head was blown off entirely and his body fell limp to the ground.
“Fun’s over you two, you’re under arrest.” An officer said, leaning out the car door of the police vehicle. Two officers exited the car, one of them cuffing Luke to the front bumper of Linza’s car, and the other putting his foot on the chest of the temporarily lifeless body, as the head rapidly regrew onto Lemmy who was rubbing his forehead due to presumingly the pain of being shot in the face. “Don’t try anything unless you feel like having your skull exploded all morning.”
Seemed everything had coincidentally taken care of itself. And while her car being crashed into would usually be a reason to be upset, the sight of what happened to that hospital still had her too happy to truly get angry. Seemed now she could finally take the fight to her enemy directly.
Travis Hill was running out of time. He needed to reach the cafe soon, he absolutely can not allow anything else to deter him, not like it’s something he can control anyhow. He heard a knock on a door beside him, which turned out to just be the front door to an ice cream parlor. Wiggling underneath the door are red gloved fingers, a terrible sign. Travis quickly ran to the side of the building, going up against the wall and off the sidewalk, only peeking at the door. The gloved fingers curled its way around the door. It then rolled the door upwards, along with the entirety of the front wall, as if rolling up a sheet of paper, then keeping it in place with a big sticker of a smiling face that was conjured out of thin air. Out of the new opening came out a man wearing a tuxedo, gloves, and a top hat, that was completely red on the right half and black on the left. Even more noticeable, his right eye was inverted in color to being black with a white pupil, his left eye was red with his black pupil shaped as the letter ‘Q’. It seemed Travis had the horrible luck of stumbling into the god he was worried about earlier, Chaos Incarnate.
His appearance never helped him come off as divine, and his demeanor is closer to that of a child than an all powerful being, but when no one else in the city can just as easily bend reality to their whim on a scale that could encompass all of Asogend, you tend to make the rules on what counts as godly. Other people walking on the sidewalk have, much too late, noticed the appearance of Chaos Incarnate. Whatever was going to happen to everyone else was going to be very unfortunate, but Travis was still in the clear. He moved from the side of the building to attempt walking down the sidewalk, away from Chaos Incarnate. Though now Travis was the one who continued being unlucky as other people were also trying to quickly walk away from the area, which didn’t go unnoticed. The ground below them started sliding, rolling in the opposite direction he was headed, and much faster than anyone here could outpace, even other vehicles. Travis conceded to the fact that he was stuck here, only hoping that whatever that was going to happen won’t take long. Chaos pinched his thumb and index finger together, and out of it grew a toothpick. He used that toothpick to gouge his left eye and pluck it out. No blood spurted out, instead an exact copy of the eye he plucked out rolled in from the inside of his brain like a slot machine to fill back in the socket. He waved his free hand around the toothpick and the severed optic nerve and blood vessels on the back of the plucked out eye wrapped itself around the toothpick. Holding it up to his mouth, Chaos planned to use his eye on a toothpick as a microphone, and of course it worked exactly in that way.
“Isn’t this neat? I hope everyone has had an excellent morning.” Chaos spoked to the crowd, “And it’s only going to get better. I heard from someone important that there was going to be some reworking of the buildings around here and I, being the thoughtful person I am, wanted to help make this process easier for everyone by giving you all the opportunity to help out.”
Travis was getting impatient, he was running out of time fast. “Can we do this quickly then?” he interjected, “I only have a few minutes to amuse you on this, whatever this is.” Everyone else in the crowd turned to stare at Travis, even the people that were closest to him started backing away. Travis himself was also nervous moments after speaking up, but it was much too late to take it back now.
Chaos Incarnate’s eyes lowered in disappointment. A faint glow appeared below the feet of every person in the crowd, all except Travis. “Looks like someone wants to be a major buzzkill. Oh well, I’ll just skip the explanation.” Chaos snapped his fingers and conjured a snowglobe in his hand. Inside the snowglobe was a mini replica of a city block. “Here, I’ll even let you use it so this can go as fast as you want.” He held out the snowglobe, his arm stretching towards Travis from multiple feet away until reaching inches away from his chest. Travis hesitated to touch the snowglobe. “You don't need to worry yourself so much. Just try not to tip it over too much, kind of like this.” Chaos flipped over the snowglobe, and as he did, the entire world felt as if it was turned upside down. Everyone in the crowd felt an immediate sense of panic, but realized everything was perfectly fine, as they were all still on the ground. All except Travis, who began falling into the sky. Chaos smiled and waved “Have a safe flight!”
Travis was flailing around, falling further down into the air. “I really should’ve kept my mouth shut!” he exclaimed. He could see he was about to fall into the clouds, but then, the world felt normal again. Travis could feel everything having been turned right side up, but now instead of falling into the clouds, he was falling towards concrete, a much worse feeling. “Dammit! I could not be in a worse situation.” Before even making it to work, his situation seemed dire, that was until hearing the beep of a car horn. Travis turned his head to his right, he wasn’t the only one that ended up in the air. A small van was also falling out of the sky. Travis couldn’t see who was inside, but the fact that inside he could hear a man’s laughter and a woman’s screams, both of which were very recognizable, he knew he was safe. As the small van fell past Travis, a hand popped out from the open window on the driver’s side and grabbed him by the collar. Travis was grabbed by Tyreese Brentwood, an athletically built man, with dark skin, who was wearing no clothes except for his underwear. Panicking in the passenger seat was Kate Sarem, a white haired woman who was in uniform, as if working at a bank. In the back seat, with a deadpan expression on her face was Clara Brentwood. Though much lighter skinned than Tyreese, she was a young teen with the same colored emerald green eyes, and wore a light blue blouse dress. The three of them together are a powerful team of superheroes known as the Dynamic Trio.
“We’re gonna die! We’re so gonna die!” Kate screamed, clutching onto her seatbelt.
“Kate, we all have been through deadly situations like this before. You really should learn to adjust yourself.” Clara said in a calm, low voice.
“That’s easy for you to say, you actually like doing this!” Kate responded. As she turned towards Tyreese, as if she was about to continue ranting, until she saw Travis being held outside of the van “Who is he?”
“A person I’m saving.” Tyreese said with a smile, “I don’t know how he got up here though. It might be the same thing that brought us up here.” Tyreese turned to Travis, “How did you get up here?”
“What can I say? I just tend to have my head in the clouds.” Even when falling to his death, he could still find himself funny. The Dynamic Trio on the other hand, didn’t think as much, it even distracted Kate from being scared. “Ok fine, it was Chaos Incarnate, I kind of upsetted him. You guys might have been driving a little too close at the time.”
“Yep, that explains it.” Tyreese said, “Kate, can you make sure he lands safely?”
“What? Why me?”
“Because this van is going to crash, which will hurt you more than anyone else.”
“Do you mean financially, since I’m the one who pays for all these vehicles you end up crashing?” Kate groaned in annoyance before unbuckling her seatbelt, “I got it, but I’m going to start opening a tab for all of this money you owe me.” Kate opened the door and climbed out of the van to fling herself over to Travis. Once she could reach Travis, Kate grabbed onto him, allowing Tyreese to let go as the van plummeted down on its own away from them. “Ok Travis, stay calm. Everything is going to be just fine.” Kate reassured Travis, holding him close, with tears flying out of her eyes.
“I’m feeling fine, but you don’t look too confident. Please don’t tell me this might’ve been a mistake.”
