There was no place to go. The dark shadow coming closer, the clicking, making my head feel like it's going to explode. The shadow reached the edge of the darkness and stopped. It stopped moving and didn't come any closer. Was it afraid of the light? If I could find my flashlight, I could escape it. The shadow started crawling up and down the wall and ceiling. It vanished. The clicking stopped, and my nerves calmed. I was still too afraid to go closer to the building. The sun was setting soon, and the shadow would probably be back soon. I had to leave now. There was a giant ravine behind me. I looked over the edge. There were piles of bones on either side of a stream flowing through the ravine. It was not naturally placed. Someone or something had moved it like that.
My only choice was to go back into the building. Would the shadow come back if I went in, or did it leave?
Was that corpse back there, Nora?
That thought crossed my mind. She only left my sight for a second, but it killed her that fast. What kinda monster was it? It reminded me of how the diggers were described. Maybe it set a trap, and she fell victim to it. A chill went down my back.
"I was that close to dying. If only I was ahead of her, it would have been me."
I swallowed my fear and headed into the dark hallway with my gun ready. There was no noise. The eeriness sent chills down my spine. It felt like this hallway would never end.
I walked and walked. It never seemed to end. At this point, there was no light in the hallway only the dark emptiness. I was tripping over stuff and bumping into walls.
A light emerged ahead of me.
The end of this hallway. I walked toward the light. It was very bright, stinging my eyes and blinding me for a second.
It was not the outside world. It was a circle enclosed by the building. It was unnatural, something or someone dug it out. In the middle of this circle was a hole. Trails of bloodstains lead to the hole from other exits into the circle. I got closer to the circle afraid of what was down there. There was no noise. It was silent around me. Even my footsteps made no noise. My emotions were in a frenzy. A part of me was curious, and a part of me was terrified. I wanted to see what the hole was but didn't know what horrors were down there.
"It could be a trap" A voice echoed inside my head.
"Check it out" More and more voices swirling around in my head.
"Look down the hole" I couldn't stop them.
I couldn't stop them. The voice wanting to check out the hole, winning the game the voices were playing in my head. My body moved on its own getting closer to the hole. I got right to the edge of the hole. I couldn't see anything down there. The sunlight did not reach the hole. It was complete darkness with no bottom in sight.
I was right at the edge of the hole. A chill went down my spine. I spun around, a foot kicked me in the face and I fell into the deep, dark hole.
The world as I knew would never be the same after that day.
The world goes on as normal when suddenly missiles are launched across the world and it's set in the apocalypse.
