Chapter 1 part 3
5th of July, 0721 AED, Field Charlie, Mage Sector, Military Training School, Royal Capital Zarens
After a whole month of drilling into us some basic military stuff too bothersome to recall, on this day, we have finally delved into field training. Yes! The first requirement of being a mage soldier—flight magic! A trainee scout mage that I am, this is reaallly important to me. After all, what else am I going to use to run but flight magic?
I am especially looking forward to learning advanced flight magic circles—yes, the ones that make you fly the fastest for my grand, quick escape from war!
—Oh! I’m certainly not thinking of desertion! How could I? HAHA…
And no! That certainly was not a nervous laugh… I told you, did I not? I am many other things but liar is not one of them… uhh… on second thought, maybe I did think of desertion… but it won’t come to that point since I’m dropping out of military training school, for sure!
I made sure to be the most unsoldierly-like soldier trainee there would ever be! Through the past week, I had made sure my grades and class performance were sooo bad that none shall ever deny my incapability!
“Stabilize your mana output, 013!” exclaimed the instructor through the magic radio, not even hiding the growing panic present in his voice.
Ohoho⁓ but I’ll just keep doing the opposite!
“But—I don’t know how!” I exclaimed, whirling around the air of 1000 meters above ground, once again bumping into the other struggling trainees, breaking their concentration and sending them to similar disastrous flight frenzy!
It seems those useless drama classes are now paying off! Look how disastrous this little predicament have turned out!
“Then cut it off, you useless sack!”
That’s the problem! I have no idea how!
—It’s the truth. Who said using aerial magic device was easy?! HOW DARE YOU, Directory of MagiTech and How to Use Them for Dummies!!!
It’s seriously not as easy as breathing at all! First, you have to will your mana from the mana core to the magic device—that’s manageable—then you have to control the magic device to switch it from magic circle of vertical flight to magic circle of horizontal flight, then alternate from the two as you fly. And it’s a lot harder when you actually do it... and this makes me more grateful that I’m not a combat mage.
—Okay, let’s just admit that I’m not used to using magic devices… yet. I mean… don’t it just bother you that it skips magic circle formation?
to be continued...
