Shoro and Nora had just walked in. We could see their flashlights in the dark hallway ahead of us. We were standing outside right in front of the building. Everyone tense, with their guns at the ready.
They'll be back soon won't they?
I was the teams Medic and if we heard them scream I will run in and help them.
Could I even do it?
That phrase kept echoing through my head. I was afraid. I had never been in a situation like this before. I've heard stories of other groups finding bases torn up by monsters and still being ok afterword. But this was different. It was actually happening to me.
What if they never came back?
What if they died in there?
All these worries were all I could think about. I didn't even notice Frank scream at me until he shook my shoulder and got me to focus again.
"Run back to the truck"
I could barely hear him because the whole building was collapsing into the ground. The whole area around it was opening up into a ravine. We run to the truck, running as hard as we could. The ground behind us being absorbed into nothingness. The gap widening and the ground crumbling. Us running for our lives. I made it to the truck and looked around. Frank jumped in the front seat and started the engine. Zack hopped in the back. The collapsing ground was right behind Henry.
I hadn't known him long. He recently joined our team. He was very kind and sweet. He had a good heart full of compassion and love for others.
There was no time. The truck was already speeding off and Henry was too far away. He was running but he couldn't run fast enough. He was tired and out of breath but had no time to stop.
"Run Henry, you're almost there"! Zack and I screamed.
We yelled at Frank to stop but we both knew he couldn't. The crumbling earth to close. Henry was getting farther and farther out of our sight.
We were driving as fast as the old truck could go.
He just disappeared.
One moment we saw him running for his life the next he was just gone. It didn't seem as if he fell but he just vanished with the rest of the ground.
Tears were streaming down my face. Zack held on to me. The dissipating ground just stooped. The Sun going down in the distance. We lost another comrade. Frank kept driving.
What about Shoro and Nora? Did they get swallowed up as well? The tears kept running down my face. We had lost half of our team on 1 mission. This was Shoro's first and last mission.
We were heading back to base. Accompanied by our great loss.
What even happened? Why did the ground just start caving in? It didn't make sense. One moment we were waiting for Shoro and Nora to return and the next, the building and ground surrounding us just vanished. It didn't fall down a hole it just disappeared into thin air.
What happened here? First, the camp was raided by someone or something then this?
The world as I knew would never be the same after that day.
The world goes on as normal when suddenly missiles are launched across the world and it's set in the apocalypse.
