Duke and Princess: The Value of the Power

Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Apr 01, 2023

Richard glanced at Aravis, hoping she could hold a bit longer, before facing the mermaid angrily. Her words drew his curiosity, but restoring his honor came first, for he would not allow anyone to attack his crew and himself without learning it was a grave mistake. A sphere of light started to grow in his palm. It got brighter and hotter as it got bigger until it reached a size of an apple. In his very hand, the Duke created a miniature sun. The water started to boil near it violently. The bubbles disturbed the water reaching the surface and leaving the crew and mermaids confused. Everyone wondered where the bright light and head came from. Duke ran out of air and could not speak to the mermaid underwater. He pointed at Aravis before pointing the finger at himself. His expression was severe and impatient.
Mermaid just rolled her eyes with discomfort, then looked at the other mermaids "Suler sah! (Free her!) The mermaids only nodded and let Aravis free, then gently pushed her body to get close to Duke, who was still holding the small sun in his one hand, so he reached with his other hand for Aravis.

"One last warning Duke. Do not be fooled by her innocence. She is the devil, and there is going to be another war. Either you stop it, or you participate, " she said.

Suddenly, the queen swam close to the young Duke as the rest of the mermaids left. The queen offered him a smile, then helped him reach the surface, but even though he appreciated the help, Richard kept his eyes on the mermaid all the time. .He still was distrustful of the mermaids and kept his guard up.
Before they reached the surface, the queen gave him a small gift.  It was a magic seashell to call for help if he were lost in the deep sea. Any good creature would hear itHe was upset and skeptical towards her, yet he accepted the gift. The crew watched the mermaids swim away, confused about what had happened. Some of them noticed the Duke near the surface. The sun in his hand was more miniature, but the icy waters were warming up from its heat. When the mermaid swam away, Richard used his power and ordered the water to lift him and Aravis back on the ship. When they were placed on the deck, he extinguished the sun in his hand.

"Princess!" The maid rushed to the girl to see if she was alright. "Everyone, keep your positions. Watch for any enemy movement. Healers take the wounded inside and treat them!" Richard ordered his crew as he leaned over Aravis.

One of the crew members, named Rennie - a young boy who just joyed the crew - walked along with the young princess to where the Duke was. He stood there looking at the dead body of Aravis. He felt disgusted by the view, so he took only one deep breath and allowed his eyes to travel to Duke "My lord, do you know how to make someone take out the water from their body?" He asked as he sat on the other side of Aravis without looking away from Duke. Richard did not look at the boy as he focused on the energy it was still stored in his body.

"Go help the wounded, Rennie. I have everything under control." He said coldly to the boy. The Duke was distraught with Aravis's behavior and the mermaid's barbarian approach. All this could be avoided with a simple conversation. But they decided to damage his vessel and wound his crew; luckily, there were no casualties. Richard placed his palm on Aravis's chest, and soon after that, water started to come out of her mouth. Like a snake, it slithered on the planks of the deck until her lungs were clear of it.  After that, Richard's hand started getting warmer, heating her cold body. The Duke lifted her head gently, rested his lips on her, and breathed air into her lungs. He paused, examined her once again and repeated the action.
Aravis coughed hard, then she slowly opened her eyes, looking around dizzy. It was all still blurry. A weird sound echoed inside her mind; her body was too heavy at other times. It could barely listen to her will. Even lifting her hand needed too much energy. Slowly her hand touched the ground, and she managed to stand still on the ground, keeping steady her body.

"Wha-what...th-the fuck...." It was the first time a princess cursed like that. Slowly she stood up on her two feet, even if she tripped a little, looking a little like a drunk person "Wh-what the f-fuck was....th-that?" Furious, she walked to her bedroom as if nothing had happened.

I hate how Richard was so angry towards her , I also love it because he was worried sick.... Too bad he did not understood she wanted to help the rest of them.

Not all the fairy-tales starts with ' once upon a time...'. They do not start with a princess in her castle waiting for her knight on his shiny armor on the white horse. This story is different...
"It is both blessing and curse to feel everything so very deeply"
