"Thanks Mrs. Bethel. The food looks good as always." I said, smiling at the elderly woman before me.
She laughed, the wrinkles around her eyes and mouth deepening. "Always flattering everyone Xavier. But it's nice to hear that someone enjoys my food. Now more along. There are other people waiting."
I nodded and walked off to the center table where Crayden and Blane were sitting. Some of my teammates were sitting at the table with a few other seniors from the different sport teams. I grabbed the seat next to Xavier and shoved a mouthful of scrambled eggs into my mouth.
Blane meanwhile took longer. He greeted some of the guys before sitting across from us. How the guy could not eat right away amazed me every time. Especially after the practice we had. Damn, it made me hungry. My stomach growled a little in agreement.
"X you mind eating like a normal human being." Crayden muttered with a look of disgust on his face. "This shake is not appetizing and you're making it worse."
I looked down at the bottle in Crayden's hand. "Coach, have you guys on a diet already?"
"Yeah. Since last week. I'm kind of getting sick of all the protein." Flexing his right arm, Crayden continued, "I mean, look at these muscles. I'm bulky enough."
"Put that arm down, Cray. You're going to make some of the freshmen faint." A female voice laughed near my ears as arms wrapped around my neck from behind.
"You're acting like you won't enjoy the sight, Princess." Cray replied back before chugging down his shake.
I turned my head up to see Becky smiling down at me. Pieces of her long blond hair fell into my face.
"Hey Becks."
"Sup X." She moved to sit next to me, nearly landing up in my lap because there was no space on the bench. "You've got egg on your face again."
"How's that possible?" I touched my left cheek, trying to get the piece of egg off my face.
"Well, you were eating like a starved animal." Blane smirked, looking at me from across the table. "Didn't you hear what Cray said?"
"No. He was ignoring me again. The man's got no manners in the morning."
Becky laughed, her green eyes sparkling. She wiped a finger across my right cheek. "Here you go you big baby."
"Thanks." I looked at her sheepishly as I looked to see the piece of egg on her finger.
"Hey Becks. How's your squad this year?" Blane asked.
"They're good. A few here because of daddy's money but most are really talented. Hopefully, we'll do better than last year. Even with a few members gone."
Oaksfield was one of the best sports academies with difficult entrance exams for each sport. It was mostly to keep the high standard in the sports as Oaksfield almost always took first place.
The school even had an 80% rate of seniors going pro. Thus, Oaksfield was a dream school for those wanting to go pro.
Of course, there were always a few at the school that got through because of money donations. They didn't last long, with the harsh training schedules and actual school work but it was still a mission to work with some of them.
It was worst for Becky because most of them went to the cheerleading squad thinking it was going to be easy to do. Most forgot that professional cheerleading required a lot of physical training to do all the impressive stunts they did.
"I'm sure you'll do fine." I smiled at Becky. "There's a reason you're captain of one of the best cheerleading squads."
"Are you getting all soft on me X." Becky teased but I saw she appreciated the support. It was written all over her face. "Anyway, Cray. I have a few freshmen that want your number."
"Sure. Just give them the business one."
"Business one?" Blane asked, a little confused.
"Because of Cray's sexy body, quite a few people have wanted his number."
"Stop objectifying my body, Becks."
"Own your handsomeness. Anyway, Cray's a big softy so can't say no so X here got him a number for people he didn't want to give his number too. Thus, the business one."
"You try sleeping with a phone that goes off every second of the night."
Becky leaned over the table to grab a piece of Blane's bacon. "So can I give the cute ones your personal one?"
"Hey-"
"No match making Becks."
"Come on Cray. Let me set you up. One date."
"No way."
"Please." Becky pleaded, managing to grab a piece of bacon.
"Only if I can set you up too."
"Touché."
The two continued to bicker when I suddenly noticed Becky's skirt was riding up her thighs. It didn't help that there were some juniors sitting behind us. Putting my arm over her butt, I tried to cover her as much as possible. "Becky, your skirt."
Becky quickly sat down. "Oh sh*t. I forgot about the uniform."
She looked behind us and saw some of the juniors were staring at her. She smiled at them quickly, a few blushing, before turning back.
"Do you think they saw anything?" She winced, eating the bacon.
"I don't think so but if you have any of them asking for your number give them mine. I'll straighten them out for you."
"Serves you right for stealing my food." Blane teased before getting serious. "But seriously, why are you wearing your uniform?"
"The squad wanted to show team spirit by having everyone wear the uniform and Coach Amy agreed. I miss my sweatpants."
I laughed. While Becky looked every bit the stereotypical cheerleading captain, she was actually the furthest thing from it. She loved sweatpants and only wore the short skirts because her love for cheerleading overpowered the hate for the skirts.
"You were at least wearing cycling shorts underneath?" I asked.
"Why is overprotective big brother worried about the juniors seeing my panties?" Becky teased, laughing a lot.
Crayden coughed next to me, trying to hide his laugh and Blane went red trying not to laugh. I just stared at Becky unimpressed. "You know half those guys sitting there are thinking with their d*cks first. I don't want them doing something to you because they saw something they shouldn't have."
"F*ck X, you sound like a jealous boyfriend," Crayden muttered.
"I just don't like how some of the guys here look at Becky. She's not some kind of object. The rumors don't make things any better."
While Becky and I had tried multiple times to stop rumors about us circulating, they never seemed to stop. We were just friends and were never going to look at each other that way. She was like a little sister to me, even if she was a few months younger than me.
I wished people could see her for the person she was and not the way her body looked or how she dressed.
"I know X." Becky sobered knowing what I was thinking. "I'm just teasing and even if you're still worried don't be. Crayden taught me some martial arts. I'll kick the guy where it hurts if he tries anything."
"You can also go for the Adam's apple," I added. "And the eyes-"
"Okay big bro." Becky rolled her eyes before standing up. "Anyway, I've got to go. I'm going first for senior speeches so I want to get everything ready before I do. See you guys at assembly."
Becky hugged me quickly, waving at the other two, before running off the nearby doors. Once she had left, I turned to the guys and smirked, "I feel sorry for the seniors who have to do that speech. Man am I lucky-"
"Dude, are you serious right now?" Crayden looked at me dumbfounded. "Please don't tell me you forgot."
"Forgot what?" The smirk fell off my face.
"The email about senior captains doing the speech this year-"
"I don't check emails during the holidays-"
"And when I reminded you when you were helping me practice my wrestling."
"I was kind of busy trying not to die. Getting grappled by you isn't the greatest experience of my life." I muttered. "Your words must have gone over me while I was fighting for my life."
"Stop being a drama queen. I was going easy on you."
"Getting a black eye and bloody nose is not going easy on me." I muttered. "I think something got fractured too. The pain was seriously bad."
I recalled the aftermath and shook my head. People could complain that Crayden shouldn't be captain but damn I knew first-hand the amount of hard work he put in. Crayden deserved that title more than anyone else.
Crayden sighed, ignoring me. "What the hell are you going to do man? Assembly is at eight."
I looked at the clock hanging above the kitchen area of the cafeteria and swore. It was quarter to seven. I was so screwed.
"Ahem!"
Crayden and I turned to look at Blane who was sliding a piece of paper towards me. I picked up the paper and looked at it.
"I figured you'd forget so I wrote one in case." Blane coughed, looking away because he was embarrassed. "I thought I was being dramatic but you proved me wrong. At least the baseball team won't be embarrassed."
"Thank you! If you were a chick, I'd kiss you right now." I kissed the paper.
"Please don't."
"Yes, don't. I will get sick if you do. And I'd like to keep my shake inside me seeing as it's the only food I'm having until lunch." Crayden muttered.
"Blane you're the best vice-captain a man could have," I said, ignoring their comments. "Now let's get cracking. I have a speech to learn."
