"Let's break up." Theo's voice filled the empty student council room. He rested his legs on Quin's lap while he flipped through the magazine he barely read. The model's pictures were the only thing interesting in the magazine.
Quin quickly glanced up, his hand stalling on the chapter in his history book. He had the book resting on Theo's leg, who didn't mind the weight of the textbook.
"Are you serious?" Quin practically screamed out his question.
Theo sighed, sticking his finger in his ear as the loud yelling annoyed it. Not once did he look away from his magazine. Theo almost looked bored.
"Yes. I am moving soon, and you are not that great of a boyfriend. We should stay friends." Theo nonchalantly explained. He and Quin have been dating for three years, and he felt too smothered by Quin. Quin was too jealous and possessive.
"I don't accept," Quin responded.
Theo finally glanced away, raising his eyebrow at Quin, "It wasn't a choice; it was a definite statement."
"Theo-"
Theo raised his hand, silencing Quin's words. He slammed his magazine closed, setting it on the table. Then he slipped his legs from under the book on them and stood up.
"Don't try to argue like it was an option to break up or not. I am breaking up with you. We are single now. Anyway, the next period starts soon, so we should go."
Theo was getting ready to walk away when Quin grabbed his hand, stopping him in his tracks. "Theo, I love you; I don't want to break up. We can do a long-distance relationship if you are worried about that."
Sighing once more, Theo glanced at the ceiling, looking for strength to deal with Quin. He could not understand how someone so smart could be so stupid.
He pulled his hand back, "Are you deaf, or are you using selective hearing? This has nothing to do with long distance—I don't want to be with you anymore. We are better as friends. At least as friends, you weren't so crazy over me as you are now. Do you understand?"
"I don't." Quin tried grabbing Theo's hand, wanting Theo to understand that he did not want to break up. He loves Theo very much, so he doesn't understand why Theo cannot see that. "I can change, Theo. Please don't say it is over."
"Quin, we are teens—we are young. Life won't end once we break up. You can find someone better than me—someone, who will put up with your craziness," Theo paused, stopping himself from getting harsher with his words before continuing, "plus, it is not like I am exiting from your life. I will still be around, but as a friend instead."
"Theo," it seemed that Quin could only repeat Theo's name at this point. But before he could try again, the bell rang, signaling the start of the next class period.
"Let's hurry to class. Even though I am leaving this school, I rather not have tardiness on my record." Theo spoke, quickly walking out.
Quin stayed seated for a second longer, watching Theo before standing up and chasing after him. Good thing they had a majority of classes together.
"Dad, Lee is messing with me," Jon whined like a baby. He grabbed Nine's arm, pulling it while causing his shirt sleeve to pull down.
Nine pushed Jon off him before fanning himself. They were walking the track outside in the hot heat. They were in PE class, and the coach decided today would be a good day outdoors instead of inside.
Nine would rather play in the gym than walk the track in the heat.
"Jon, it is too hot to play like a child." Nine responded before turning towards Lee, who walked on the other side of Jon, "And Lee, please don't start with him."
"I didn't even do anything." Lee raised his hand, sticking out his leg, almost causing Jon to trip. Good thing Jon was fast enough to evade it because Nine did not want to baby Jon.
Other times he would, but it was seriously too hot outside.
Jon quickly pointed at Lee, yelling out loud, "See! See!"
Nine sighed, rubbing his temples. Is it too late to make new friends?
They have been close since the first day of high school starting for them. They banded together because they all came from different middle schools and did not know anyone there. Sometimes Nine wishes he was more social and tried to make new friends instead of sticking with Jon and Lee.
Maybe, as time went by, he would get used to everything. Now, it's been a few months of their friendship, and he is ready to throw in the towel.
"Can you two stop fighting for one second?" Nine asked—well, more like praying.
Lee smirked, "I am getting him used to me because I will be his brother-in-law."
Jon puffed up like a fish, "I told you for the last time, I will not allow you to date my sister. She is off-limits!"
"It is not your choice, but hers."
Lee fell in love at first sight with Jon's sister, Cassy. All it took was one smile from her, and Lee started planning their future. Now, if only Lee would suck up his nervousness and ask Cassy out.
She is a beautiful, popular girl and already has many admirers.
"Don't make me count to ten." Nine threatened.
They were all 15, but he felt like he was the adult, and they were the kids.
Jon crossed his arms, pouting hard while Lee laughed. Nine rolled his eyes, shaking his head at the two immature people he has as friends.
He was going to say something about their mature level when he saw something that had him blushing and fidgeting.
Noticing his behavior, Jon and Lee looked over at his line of sight before they started smirking. Talking to the coach, with papers in their hand, was Nine's crush.
"Oh, look who it is, the senior Nine likes." Jon teased.
Nine hit him, "Shut up; I don't like him. I just think he is cool."
"Cool and dreamy." Lee also teased, laughing through his words. "I remember you describing him like a lovesick fool. I think I heard the word dreamy ten times."
Glaring, Nine flicked Lee off. "I did not."
"If you like him, go over there and talk to him. I bet you don't even know his name."
Nine blushed hard. He didn't know the senior's name.
Three months ago, Nine was rushing to class and almost slipped down the stairs; the senior appeared out of nowhere and grabbed his waist, stopping him from falling.
Nine felt his heart beating fast, and the scene seemed too much like a romantic drama. He knows it is dumb to quickly like someone like that, but the senior felt like a knight in shining armor.
"And, who cares? It is not like he is going to notice me. I am a freshman."
"You never know unless you try." Lee shrugged.
"Yeah. The senior has a student council pin on his shirt—maybe you should try to get into student council and get to know him." Jon added.
Nine looked over at the senior, biting his lip while he thought. It wouldn't be too bad to try.
Note: I will have chapter chapters (not too long maybe two or three chapters) before getting back to the main story since we are at the climax of the main story.
